Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 8 Notes

Is Odyssey coming to consoles? I don't care when it may be, only if it will at some point. If it is planned and is possible, will I need the latest console to support the graphics reasonably comfortable?
I just need to know whether I should get my hopes up or not.

Is the dominator jump jets working as intended? They seem very broken. It used to be possible to fly a dominator suit on planets at .06 g or lower, but now after the initial jump, there is no ability at all to sustain a jump. I'm not even sure why it's even a feature. This is with enhanced jump assist. A full recharge in the air burns through in under 1/10 of a second and can't even arrest the fall. This is very broken compared to how it was originally. Please either reduce the initial jump and give more on the reload or just go back to the way it was originally. It's a useless amount of initial jump and give no flexibility while in the air.

The way it is now is horrible and I feel like I was cheated from now being stuck with an absolutely useless jump assist on my dominator unless I want to completely rebuild the suit. It has also made on foot combat FAR less interesting. It crippled what made Odyssey combat feel unique. Now it's just a bland, basic and poorly done vanilla shooter. You had a good thing. Don't ruin it.

The impact of gravity on jump capability was a key part of what made the on foot combat interesting. Now I can barely tell the difference between fighting on a .06G planet and a .22G planet. That's boring and looses the main unique thing that could be offered by Odyssey.

Is this the first time you've raised it? I might have lost track of people asking in previous conversations so absolutely remind me!!

Well... the blueprint pinning does not seem to exist at all.
I thought it is common knowledge by now and everyone is waiting patiently for them to come in the next fix or in Update 9 😊

I swear the dev team have absolutely no QA and the poor community team are left holding the bag.
That's the video game industry for you- where companies know customers will buy things before knowing they're of a suitable quality anyway and often times are trying to rush the process. It's not the first time it's happened anywhere and certainly won't be the last. There would certainly have been a pretty negative reaction here if the launch was delayed a few more months.

Just a quick question there seems to be a lot more crashes on the game on console than normal lately ( over the past weekish?) is someone tinkering ?

Heyaaa - yeahhh something does seem a little funky with crashes since 8. I opened the forum thread for this https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-crash-to-desktop-instances-over-coffee.592735/ here BUT...I'm so used to saying "crash to desktop" that I really shouldn't say "crash to desktop" because I want to get Console in there too so I'm going to change the title :)

Dunno if anyone else has noticed.
Winging up with 3 or 4 of us results in one dropping, having to relog. And thus slowing us down. Seems more so recently.
Just wonder if it's already a reported bug.

Greetings Commanders.

  • (We’ve had this discussion before on Twitter but what is a group of Commanders called? One Commander, a ______ of Commanders…)

A wave of Commanders.

Space is a dangerous place where wimps eat flaming plasma death. Exploring and winning territory can only be achieved through the sacrifice of wave upon wave of braves individuals.

CTDs are rather common for me when firing up in VR (PC, Win 10, stand-alone launcher). Seems perhaps there is a gateway time out or something, as usually when Oculus Home has fired up, the CTDs disappear.

:D S

The 4th seats should've been optional. They all look out of place. The cockpit of my Beluga was beautiful and symmetrical before this update. Get rid of those two spotlights(really bad design) in the Krait and give us the ability to turn off the cockpit/bridge lights instead of messing up good things.

@sallymorganmoore - this issue has been up little over a month before being memory-holed into the expired pit, despite completely and utterly breaking both piracy and liberate missions.

It's consistent, reproducable, and will basically never get confirmed in that kind of timescale because hardly anyone does piracy - largely because issues like this make it impossible and consistently get ignored.

If you hatchbreak a ship moving faster than 40m/s, regardless of whether the canister comes to a halt afterwards, there's a significant chance that the canister is regarded as moving too fast for you to scoop and collectors can't get it either. Pre-odyssey this occasionally happened in PvP piracy with the odd canister if the ship that dropped it logged out, but now it's happening with NPCs as well.

Yesss! So I actually popped this on...somewhere...one of my known issues lists to show we have this under investigation still.
I even mentioned ito n last night's stream (although not everyone watches of course, that's totally fine, just wanting you to know it's pinned to my forehead). I think we're on to a winner with it! Will keep you posted o7

Did we ever get an explanation about what's happening with pinning blueprints for Odyssey engineers? It showed up unexpectedly in the patch 8 notes (as two separate UI items: the ability to pin blueprints and pinned ingredients showing an icon at the bartender) but did not appear to actually be implemented anywhere in the game...
