Newbie here. Some nice person linked your guide and despite having read it only once so far, it already helped a lot. I think I now understand many of the issues I had in my frist two play sessions and see ways to get better around, that I'm going to test soon. Many many thanks for doing the work and compiling all this information. [Too bad there is no praise emote available. :D]

Thanks for the guide. As a newbee I'm sure I'm going to need it.
But being stuborn, I'll jump right into the game and be sorry for that within an hour.

I know what you mean :).
Fun fact: i almost never use tutorials or guides myself, because i like to make my own mistakes, figure out things and play the way i like as there is no right way of playing games as long as you have fun.
And when i saw many posts from CMDRs that were having problems with basic game mechanics making some kind of guide was natural choice. I admit that i was bored when i created first version of the guide but now seeing all posts about how it helps new players to understand the game better is all motivation i need to keep updating it, just usually to add something new i need to test it myself or gather information from forums, and that takes time, also it seems all are enjoying beta 3 so much ... there are much less detailed posts about things than before, maybe because players realized that all is WIP and will change just in a month or so time again :)

p.s. if anyone is up to writing an article or has useful info to share about the game with all of us please do contact me.

Unhelpful Beta Tutorials

I need a 2nd posting before I can get to use the forum's features, so here's my feedback:

Re: Beta Tutorial

I feel that the tutorials in the Beta is not comprehensive enough. This is especially true for space sim noobs like me. There's not enough instructions given.

I kept crashing my ship on the first docking tutorial. I only learnt the finer points for the control scheme of a gamepad after I've read up the SideWinder manual in PDF. We should be shown or alerted to some of the main points when we first start the tutorial.

Next, I kept failing to land the ship, despite having planted my ship right in the centre of the landing pad. Why? I had no idea I need to deploy landing pads. It was only after I accidentally came across the Youtube video, did I realize what was missing from the Beta Tutorial.

By then, I was so frustrated I was ready to abandon the game, for good!

Conclusion: Please make the in-game tutorial more detailed so that ED is more accessible to more gamers. Hope to see this in the final consumer version of ED!

you came to right place, because it seems that you really need to download this and read it, there's most if not all that you need to know about starting this game :)

as for in-game tutorial then i am sure it will be more detailed, and after each expansion we will see new things added, so patience :)

Oh it certainly isn't "all" as the Xbox 360 gamepad layout isn't documented in it.

Nah, I was just nit-picking ... haha.

Hey CMDR, really appreciate your sharing of the Guide with me. Thanks! =)

This is a Beta not a Game! You are lucky there is any tutorial or manual at all.

If you think the Beta-3 tutorials are lacking in content. You should seen the ones in Premium Beta. Those were really useless.

You forgot to put your landing gear down.... The computer voice warning you to deploy your landing gear didn't give you a clue?

Really?!?! SIghhhh! :S:rolleyes:

Thank's Forger...Awesome Post....I have Dyslexia & Plans, Charts, Instructions etc, are a nightmare for me, but your Pilots manual is really well laid out, the Font & Page color are easy on the eye. I have learnt Much.
See you Out there.
Badnewsthe1st.

Much more than a guide, this. Almost 170 pages. Maybe a little much. Too much for my E-reader. The pdf file is so large, it cannot seem to handle it. It may be too heavy on the pictures. After 7 pages, on the timeline, it won't turn the page and seems to hang indefinitely trying to cope with it.

Maybe I will try to change the format in Calibre. See if that helps.
