Elite Dangerous plans for 2024

Lol - this old chestnut

"we do intend" is not a promise - it's an intention. and intentions obviously changed at some time in the intervening ... ten years

Even you should know by now, that if anyone at FD mentions anything to do with any game, it is a promise, no matter how it might be worded...

Anyone think a console re release is possible? They mention 'new platform releases for existing games'in their latest business outlook by Frontier. Only 2 things i can think of are Planet Zoo console and ED some sort of re release

Combatitive boarding wouldn't go down too well, especially if it's another player doing it. Take that away and it's not clear why anyone would want to hide in the cargo bay. Otherwise it looks like a completed list.

No consoles are gone. From a console player. Fdev have neither the heart or the personnel.

From the beginning Elite Dangerous seemd like a big promise what might be. Piece by piece some parts of this dream have been realized, and while I enjoyed playing the game, I always hoped the full promise would one day be reached (if you watch the early dev videos from Kickstarter, you can see the devs talking about big space monsters, space walks etc. which the community was very willing to expect as potential future expansions at that time). Now nearly ten years after the release I just want to know if what we have now is mostly "it" (in which case I probably wouldn't make big efforts to get back into the game) or whether there are still some major developments for the future (I love that we got player avatars, walking around stations (even if this seems kind of minimal viable product given the huge space stations in the game), that we can drive and walk around planet surfaces, and that the Thargoids are very nicely designed, but I still hope for those last few big things like earth like planets or at least more complex surfaces for some few planets in the future)
It depends on where on Earth you want to land. If you want to land in the Mojave dessert, you're all set.

The game lost more than half of its playerbase during the last year (probably due to the badly-written thargoid story). Consol development closed, a lot of dev fired, no major updates, nor the promised new content. I'm afraid, only the maintainance mode is coming in 2024, nothing more.

Do you have an accurate source for this statement?
Or is it just opinion?

Steam charts are not accurate - but figures directly from Frontier would be acceptable...

ETA: It reminds me of another poster telling us that a German Magazine thinks that the latest Warhammer release will cost FD £32 million in the next year... and providing a link to a steam forum post, that itself doesn't link to said article - just vapour...

Also, I can't believe nobody pushed the "enable Christmas cosmetics in the store" button before they checked out for the holidays.

ive been saying this the whole time as well. but the way this looks right now is kinda hard to ignore though...
No problem, if the actual number of players each day (rather than steam's concurrent figure) drop low enough, FD will cut the cord - which should have the doomsayers finally celebrating, that after so many fruitless years of prophesy, they are finally right.

I don't use steam for EDO, nor do the majority of the folk I play with...

It's amusing to see the age-old debate about the distinction between "promise" and "intention" is still raging on. Admittedly I didn't want to blame Frontier for any alleged broken promises, but rather just wanted to hear if any topic in particular has been mentioned by FDEV for the future (something like the reworking of a core mechanic mentioned above). But I see now that this is not the case and I should probably check the current game and see if what is there right now is entertaining enough for me and move on if it isn't.

Granted, I was always in the "its-all-about-the-immersion" faction, so I will probably be happy just mining a few more rocks and racing a few more planet surfaces, without new mechanics, but I just wanted to know about the current state of the game from the community, of which I have fond memories.

And for some reason it still looks quite ok.

Until such time as Frontier release the actual numbers it's all a guess , however there was a notable drop when it was announced no more work for consoles was announced and this was seen by console players who friend base was mostly made up by EDH players and also the squadron leader boards numbers which have all dropped over the past years . But again that only counts active squadrons and members .
So to say everything is hunky dory is an exaggeration but to how much it's dropped we will never know.
