Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 Update

I'm not sure. Any existing player had plenty of opportunity to get Prismatic Shields before PP 2.0. Sure it took 4 weeks, but it was minimal effort. Kinda annoying but super easy.

Honestly I'm not sure why I was doing PP 2.0. Maybe just for something different? Certainly not the rewards.

But now I feel I wasted my time. I will return to the activities I previously enjoyed.
FWIW, as an Immersion Farmer I never got prismas or pack hounds as it felt just weird hopping between powers. Regardless, the point of PP2.0 to me was to add content to what I am doing. I picked Kumo because it seemed the most characterful and interesting compared with Space Elon, Space Waifu or Space 'Merica but so far the balancing has been pretty depressing. The Pirate King doesnt give merits for piracy, so you either schlepp rares back and forth, exploit data ports or hover-up FLCs at the stronghold carrier. Or do as me, ignore those activities and realize what you do is so wildly inefficient by comparisons you are 1) effectively not contributing meaningfully, 2) will need ages to get the first module unlock (cytoscramblers, fixed c1 burst lasers with massive jitter, nice...) while Archon doesn't seem to actually add black markets anymore to its territory.

Don't get me wrong: the basic premise of PP2.0 is excellent, it is just the details and execution that drag it down to mediocrity again. Add to it the usual abysmal FD communication and it makes it hard to get excited about their Colonization feature.

Meh, just when had I had started to like rares hauling. Racing the clock on a 3+3 jumps loop in 10 minutes was fun - much more fun than loading a carrier, waiting for the the rares to respawn, waiting for carrier jumps and having to unload it all.

If that's the case then I'm very very very puzzled as to why Frontier wouldn't think about this before, considering they are 100% aware of relogging usage to respawn stuff since the dawn of time Elite Dangerous.
Well I remember reading that they had recently fixed a bunch of this relogging resetting instances, at least for Odyssey settlements. Maybe they thought that previous fix had resolved these locations as well.

Apparently, having fun is not supposed to be part of PP2. Sorry. Did you buy a Mandelay yet?

So what if that player reached rank 118 or 1118? Why should I feel so bad that I'd nerf him? First they give us the tools, then they get mad when we use them. I swear, if I read another "we value your time" post, I'll scream.
Yes! We worked our a**es off to get the credits to buy a Fleet Carrier, but then we're not supposed to use it?!?! Nope! I used my FC as a tool to help me reach a goal...no different than going to Rackam's peak!

I agree with everything you said, with one exception - they should stamp rares stored on carriers as not counting for merits. Why?

  1. Using the "dump rares on carrier, pick up more, repeat" and then delivering violates the spirit of the rares. You're not allowed to buy more then X from the station and put in your hold; you have to sell it before you can by more. Dumping in your carrier storage violates this and your exploiting (not game exploit, but market exploit) the rare commodity limitation.
  2. Allowing carriers for this has led to a HUGE increase in carrier jumps. That means delayed carrier jump times for all carrier owners.
  3. Using carriers for this greatly exacerbated the problem of merits being earned from rares. I've spent a lot of time in my Type 8 doing loops for the past 2-3 weeks and I'm only rank 67. In the first week, one guy got to rank 118 by using his carrier to mass deliver rares.

Look, it's pretty simple. Frontier offered a range of ways to unlock ranks. They have scolded explorers, now it's scolding traders. It will not stop until every single merit option is systematically nerfed.

While carriers may have increased efficiency, it was absolutely possible to run a loop within 10 minutes.

That some folks can dedicated 12+ hours to the game and thus be able to capitalize is never not going to be represented as a result. There are always going to be outliers

The only issue that needed addressing is the data point exploit. Commanders using carriers, trading rares is all legitimate activity. Is it distorting powerplay system acquisition? Almost certainly. However I'd argue this is something that frontier should have considered, when developing a 100+ rank wall with truly asinine merit amounts.

People engaging with the game and sticking to the rules, isn't something you punish. If players are creative, well then good for them. Frontier are fixated on powerplay being a giant time gate. And all this scolding over investing time and effort is weird and should be viewed as weird.

Frontier is going to rapidly undo all the good will gained from the powerplay update, whilst desperately trying to put the genie back in the bottle.

What is truly mind boggling, is that if you change powers, your rank and merit count is reset. Imagine having to unlock all 100 ranks again.
