FD, you had a strong start to PP2 but thats what it is- a start.

Please, please please don't repeat the mistakes of PP1 and suddenly forget about it for another eight years- other areas like the BGS, Thargoids etc had updates that became great so don't think PP2 is 'done'.
Why finished? Isn't colonization for PP2?

I think this was pretty much the plan. They revitalized the feature and will now concentrate on other areas. If things like colonization touches PP (which it obviously will), they will change it accordingly, of course. But I doubt that PP on itself will see any more development, this is done now. I mean, there are still bugs to nail out. Many bugs. But so are in many other areas as well, thus we see them fixed slowly if ever, too.
I'm afraid you'll have to live with what is now there for a very long time again. I can't see FDEV renaming it into Elite:powerplay anytime soon. (LOL on that smiley combination)

The thing is PP2 does not need that much more doing to it. It needs balance updates, and what is essentially tweaks (using whats already in game).

Powerplay 2 has driven EDs player numbers up again, and if they want that engagement to last FD need to be less old FD (that destroyed their finances) and instead focus on what is working.

At this point I’m starting to think there won’t be much, if any, balancing before Colonisation comes out. Assuming it does link heavily to Powerplay I wonder if they’re waiting to see what issues arise with the two working together before they make tweaks that would only require further work once Colonisation is released.

I don’t like it but I can see the sense if finance, staffing etc is pretty tightly controlled currently.

Whether that’s a good idea or not probably depends on just how far off the new feature is…realistically.

...balancing before Colonisation comes out
I want to bounty hunt for an hour or two, make 100K merits, rank up 12 spots, and move the system score clear across the scale.

That wouldn't be very balanced or fair, would it? Well that's exactly how core mining is setup in the game right now. Before, we could counter that with rares and pods. But we got those turned off with the "promise" to "keep an eye" on it and further balance it if needed. Right. It's been 2+ months since I brought this up with a ticket so it's known to HQ.

There’s no argument from me on those points, as it stands there are too many of the power ethos tasks simply switched off. There’s imbalance across a lot of Powerplay in general and it does need to be rectified.

I just don’t think it’s likely to happen until Civilisation because I suspect FDev are concerned that will just cause more issues that require addressing and they’d like to keep it ‘manageable.’

One a slightly different note addressing the mining issue. I think much of this is simply because it’s the current meta merit grind we have a lot of Cmdrs just ranking up by mining. Which means they don’t care where their earned merits go, just where they can get most merits from.

I’m currently doing bouts of Core Mining to push a system to stronghold so that I can expand towards a system I wish to Aquire one day. The system I’m pushing is rubbish, it has a ring which I can mine but it has no hotspots and no economy requiring the minerals I’m mining but I’m doing it, occasionally, to help forward my goals. At some point I’d mining will settle down when the initial bulk of new Power players have ranked up or got bored.

I think it’s another imbalance that wasn’t thought through because FDev forget just how grindy players are for new stuff - they, probably, looked at mining balance with a strategic view rather than a grind merits for rank view.

Speculation on my part.

Agree. To say nothing on how PP2.0 has plowed over, and basically invalidated reasons to do BGS.

My ~9 y/o faction, with the word "Federation" in its name, and native to a system right inside Federation space, is hosting an Alliance Stronghold. That system went from barely Exploited to Stronghold in a little over a week when PP2.0 started, finally gaining the status on the second cycle. The system score is currently pegged to the right side, and there's enough extra score to probably win another system if it were possible. We can't defend our own system because that would incur us fines and bounties against ourselves, and reducing our BGS Influence. I am "hostile" in my home system - can't tell you how frustrating this is.

I like PP2.0 but it has ruined, or at least obviated the many years of careful BGS work. This despite the claim that both are "completely separate", as we often hear from Devs.

I agree with this in a way - why is the Emperor of the Empire celebrated and revered as a stronghold system in Federation space?

It would be like walking though New York City and having banners celebrating and supporting the King of Spain....

Makes no sense from a common sense standpoint.

Greetings Commanders,

We have identified an issue where certain actions are being excessively used for Powerplay gains.

In order to investigate and resolve this issue we are temporarily suspending Powerplay gains via the following methods:
  • Rare Goods Trading
  • Settlement Data Delivery This is now enabled
  • Escape Pods
Once we have resolved this issue these options will be enabled again.

Thank you for your continued reports and feedback on Powerplay 2.0.
Something that is persistently frustrating is when you've got systems with high mineral prices but no way to actually get merits for selling them there, because there is no in-system availability for that mineral.

Even if the merits were reduced, it'd be really nice to be able to mine in one system and sell in another.

I decided after much reading that I'm not going any where near PP2.0 until it's all sorted, balanced and everything is working correctly.
Everyone will be moving onto colonisation next (especially frontier) then we can enjoy how that will be unbalanced and not working correctly also.

Flimley

But imagine how upset some forum regulars would be if it was balanced and working as intended.

Make it open-only!

If you do open only you wont see much more players in open, becuase other players just left it...
If someone want to play alone, you can't force someone to play with other random players.

I udnerstand impact of fighting for powers if you can really fight with other players, but people who talk a lot about open-only often are just gankers who want more amaterours to kill... but in fact they are the reason why ppl doesn't want to play open.

The only way to do it is to give players more rewards for playing open and in the same moment create an really good crime and punishment system. But for now Elite is game for all who love space, and space ships, and doesn't force anyone to play in particular way. For me, it is a good choice tbh.
