News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

So I guess I'm not the only person bombarding the store for a key then? :D

By generating a Steam key all future purchases made with your Frontier account will also be associated with your Steam account. This won't affect how much you pay for the game or for

Wait, does this mean that we can still purchase future expansions and paint jobs and stuff from your store here and they'll be linked to our steam account AND you guys will get 100% of the cut like before?

OK, if i link my account with steam and i will buy paintjobs directly from FD store it will decrease your income or not?

(if yes, i will not link my account)

yupp :) the only thing about steam license is giving equal opportunities to early owners same as latter owners of E: D

... but sticking with the EliteDangerous.com store remains the best way to support ongoing development with 100 percent of your money on future purchases. We especially appreciate it when you buy direct from us, but we're happy for you to play how and where you like. Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

And this is why I won't be generating a Steam key, nice that you're giving people the option though.

Ed, can you clarify this a bit - does this mean Steam gets a cut of any game item purchase made through Frontier's store once the account is linked?

No, I think what he means is that going forward Valve gets a cut of all your future purchases if you generate a steam key, even if you purchase future things on the FD store. Personally, I'd rather 100% of my money goes toward development at FD, so I won't be generating a Steam key.

Er, what? The post you quoted states in plain text that you can continue to purchase from Frontier's store.

According to the post, generating a Steam key has no effect on anything. If you continue to buy from the Frontier store, Frontier gets 100% of the payment amount, Steam key or not doesn't matter.

Let Edward clarify this, i understood "you can link, but is better to FD to buy from FD store", i do not know now, should i link account or not?
i dont care this steam key, i would like my money in 100% get to FD, but, if i can generate steam key and IF i will buy from store.zaonce it will be ok (100% -> FD), i would genrate it.

There are lot of not english native people, so it would be good to clarify this question with simpliest words as possible ;)

This looks like misinformation. Where did you get that from?

The only way Valve makes money is from purchases from the Steam Store. Nowhere else. If you don't buy from the Steam store, no money goes to Valve.

Also note that Valve gives out Steam key FOR FREE to developers and publishers. Your Steam key (if you choose to generate one), costs nothing to Frontier.

I would also want a clarification about future purchases.

If I link the accounts does that mean that all future paintjobs/cosmetics/expansions even if done through your store will mean less profit for you? Will it no longer be possible to make a purchase straight from you?

I expect that generating steam keys is free, but by doing so any future FD store purchases become subject to the "valve tax". A bit of confirmation on that point wouldn't hurt but it makes sense to me.

Looking forward to getting this...it may address some connectivity issues....now just to wait for the store, which has a queue out the door lol

No, the purpose of linking your account only serves as though you bought ONLY the game license from Steam. You are still going to buy extras from Elite: Dangerous store, so no profit will be made by Steam when you purchase an extra.

Though, I think Frontier paid an amount of money to Steam in order to offer us early backers this steam linking service. So, what's done is done, no worries about future purchases.

Click on ‘Partner Keys’

Click ‘Claim an Elite: Dangerous’ key.

You can redeem your code by selecting 'Games > Activate a Product On Steam' in the Steam UI.

wait.... so we get a new key for a game? so anyone can give this key to a friend that don't own Elite...

Hi everyone,

The store is under heavy load at the moment due to the large number of requests. We're aware of the issue and we'll be back to full capacity as soon as possible.
