News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

Feugo, we can all hope that Elite continues to be successful as it is a wonderful game. But you are wrong to state your question as you have, it's a straight up discussion on information posted by a staff member. We'll never know any further details I would imagine because of the commercial agreement. Nice try in the deflection though.

I do notice again however, that you have not deigned to respond to that. That will just make people wonder what you are trying to say and view your posts with suspicion.

To be honest, I'd be interested to know why he refuses to acknowledge the staff post, who is "official" as it were. Just seems to keep passing over it which is odd. As you and a good few others have said, until someone else or Ed himself says something different there is no reason whatsoever for us to not believe his comments. It is after all, something Steam/Valve have done before.

@Larkspeed - there is no debate really. A staff member has posted contrary to your own experience. There is just people on here arguing for the sake of it even when the information is solid right now.

Am I looking too much into this where it says keys(s)?

Why would we have multiple keys to redeem? Can't you only have one game per store account?

Unless this is for DLC you buy from the store.

I couldn't find the partner key thing with Chrome. Copy and pasted the address into IE and it just worked first time. Always wondered why I kept that browser around...

I'm sorry, Jim. I'm a gamer, not a politician (see what I did there ;) ) Seriously though, I kid.

I'm not sure what "people" might be suspicious of me not responding to. My apologies if I missed it. Please feel free to quote it and respond to this reply so I don't miss it again. I thought we had quoted everything that was to be quoted by staff members. I feel like I even quoted Staff members twice.

Is there some sort of credit I'm supposed to be defending? I feel like everything has been in plain English, for the most part. I've seen statements one way or the other, but no definitive answer to these questions thus far.

I think this individual sums it up best:

I have been sitting here reading page after page of people going on about the steam key.

This is my experience from working with devs that have had their own shop as well as steam availability:

If you purchase the game via steam then steam takes a cut

If you purchase the game from the devs and link your account to steam it costs the devs nothing so they lose nothing.

If you purchase content through steam then steam takes a cut

If you purchase content from the devs directly then it is associated with a linked account and available for use in steam, steam however does not get a cut of anything sold directly to you by the developer.

The devs statement about wanting to show support and have 100% of the money goes to them simply means by all means play the game via steam but if you purchase any addon content do not purchase it through steam rather purchase it direct from the frontier store so steam does not get a cut.

Now no doubt someone is going to come and pick this apart and if you want to spend all night debating it then so be it, but from my experience that's how it works.

Exactly this!

I did add it to Steam. This way hopefully it gets some attention from the people on my friends list, and I get all the benefits of my prefered platform. Any purchases I will make via FDev store.

Ahh Star Trek fan....maybe?

The point of you not responding is you have had it clearly stated to you with links provided by the staff member. Check post 367 and your answer in 369 on page 25. You were provided with a clear chain and ignored it. There is other instances where the same data was provided that you must have read to respond. People will be suspicious because it will appear you are just trying to get a rise out of people.

anyone having issues getting steam key, try using the mobile site. my pc refuses to log into store, but have just gone through whole process and got my key in less than 2 mins on my phone

I can't obviously speak for anyone else, but you are just glossing over anything that is not inline with your position. Your exhibiting certain traits here and it's not good.

OK so can I just clarify on this.

If I claim it will Frontier receive less money from my purchases?
Once you link your account to Steam then they will be the retailer for all future game add-on purchases for that account, and they take their retailer portion of those future sales.

Ahhh cheers.

One good reason not to link then, I'll not bother.

Hahaha this is ' halarious. I know a whole bunch of you were ones screaming from the rooftops about demanding your Steamkey - but now we find out that the minute you claim it Frontier loose 30% on all future sales regardless of if its via their store or not.

Slow clap to all of you. Ugh this community.

I for one never wanted a steam key and I won't ever be claiming one.

What's wrong with you?

Some really bitter people on this forum. =(

Hi I redeemed my Steam key before I found out they take a cut on all future skin purchases from FD...so now I pretty much regret it. Also, Steam wants me to download the game (which is already installed in an FD directory) If I tell Steam to install it to the FD directory it's already installed to will it reset my account and wipe my save out?
