I own Elite Dangerous on steam and i bought it there.
But i bought Horizons on the frontier store.
So where does that leave me? Do i get a code for steam so it also becomes a steam official game or?

You can get a steam key from your account in the Frontier store. Log on to your store account and then select "Partner Keys" from the menu on the left.
You can sign in to steam and it will generate a key.

When the dlc pass of the season 3 will be released, the new players will have to buy Elite Dangerous + the Horizons season pass + season 3 pass ? (if they do not purchase the Deluxe version of the season 3, of course)

:D

Given that the game has been out for less than 2 months, and they've just changed the pricing model. I'm going to guess that they haven't thought that far ahead :D

Not quiet. The Horizons Season Pass will only work if you own Elite Dangerous. So instead it is...

ED: Gets you 1.6, but not 2.0 or any of the 2.x updates but will include 1.7 etc.
ED: Horizons Season Pass gets you 2.0 and all the 2.x updates, but requires Elite Dangerous
ED: Deluxe includes both, & some digital goodies. - Yeah basically.

1.6 and 1.7 confirmed!! :)

Ok, just re-iterating this for my own clarity and benefit as much as anything:

Previously you could buy:
- ED which gives you 1.5 currently plus all future 1.x releases.
or
- ED: Horizons which gives 1.5 and all 1.x releases, 2.0 plus all 2.x releases.

The new system:
- ED which gives you 1.5 currently plus all future 1.x releases.
and optionally:
- ED: Horizons Season Pass which adds on 2.0 and all the 2.x releases to the above.

- ED Deluxe which is the two above combined, with some digital goodies.

Or simpler again:
Old options: buy season 1 (ED). Or buy season 1 and season 2 bundle (Horizons).
New options: buy season 1 (ED). Optionally buy season 2 add-on (Horizons season pass). Or buy deluxe option which combines season 1 and 2 & goodies.

Horizons was more expensive because it was a full bundle. Now it's just an add on to the base game.

This pricing model makes far more sense - although in a personal example it makes it confusing for someone I was trying to convince to get horizons as now everythings all change and I have to start again with them :)

I hope this will be used for next season - where season '3' has a season pass and perhaps the individual parts of the season being standalone dlc that as an aggregate, cost slightly more than the season pass itself for that year?

Business model must be this since the start, it is a lot more clear to understand.

But that compensation is not really good, why that one? Ir you dont want to cash back the difference maybe you can let us choose it, or give us that to spend in your store the way we choose. (For example).
Gold paint not nice for some people and obviously not all people want to buy an ASP.

Best regards.

Which was a complaint for many of us as it was forcing us to pay again for content we already have/paid for.

I think you are confused here in the part I underlined. Season 3 will be sold not in small parts, the whole season is sold together... not in little bits. The dlc content will be season 2, season3, season 4 etc etc so on and so forth, each season wont be broken up into bits, that would just make things far far too convoluted and confusing.

perhaps, but it would be more in line with the way season passes work with several other publishers in that getting the season in advance saves you a little compared to the cost of each part that season makes up on its own

I really hope that they have. Otherwise there's going to be another round of "What kind of cowboy outfit are Frontier?" wailings.

I have bought original ED on steam after release with full price. Week ago i also bought ED:H. And now i read about another price reduce. I like new pricing model but i'm overpay for a golden asp skin(yeah, but i'm not going to use asp) and useless cobra mk4.

I love the move to more established gaming terminology. I've always seen Horizons as a season pass. The gold Asp is beautiful but I'd like another chance at the black friday skins. I didn't have money back on black friday. :/

I'm not sure how the prices compare actually - the old Horizons with the loyalty discount, or the new Horizons 'DLC' without discount.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with it. The scope of the additions in the season are huge, for me it's well worth it. It's not like typical game DLC which just consist of additional data files (models, sounds, ai scripts, textures..) dumped into a support folder. In a procedurally generated world like Horizons the new additions require significant amendments to the codebase. Even though it's being marketed now as DLC, I'd be astonished if the Horizons 'DLC' isn't actually a completely discrete installation, entirely independent from the base game installation; and it's only an add-on in the sense your account will likely be checked that you've purchased the base game before you can purchase/download/play Horizons.

So... If I've been launching the game using the Horizons entry on Steam, does that mean I should uninstall that and reinstall the original E:D entry?

Lets phrase it another way so you guys get it, the dlc IS the season PASS. When they say you can buy season 2 horizons alone without the base game they're talking about the season pass whereas before you bought the season pass PLUS the base game, what they have done is broken it down to base game plus season passes. They haven't broken up the season pass. There is no "each part that season" to save on.

I am sure when season 3 rolls around if they offer it a discount for preorder you'll get that discount regardless of if you get the deluxe edition or season pass only.

It cost less now, before it was like 80cad for me and now it would cost me like 50cad.

As for the rest you're far off base horizons is just a content update like in any other game that adds to the already existing code. Its dlc in the sense that adv packs for dungeons and dragons online are dlc.

As for scope of the seasons and if it's worth it that is very subjective and a topic for the horizons price thread.

I have a question about the Cobra Mk IV that I've been looking for an answer to for a while. I pre-ordered Elite: Dangerous Horizons without first buying Elite: Dangerous. Do I have access to the Cobra Mk IV?

No - not unless you buy ED prior to the changeover later today. Alternatively, contact support and see if they can help you out.

The Cobra Mk IV access was only for people who already owned ED prior to buying Horizons, however Zac intimated earlier that if you have both ED and Horizons bought prior to the switch-over you could qualify. However, before you do, consider the Cobra Mk IV carefully - it's not fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a reasonable all-rounder. It may not be worth the expense....

SNIP ...the Cobra Mk IV ship in game which will not be available after the changes go live tomorrow.
As I understand it this now means that the Cobra Mk IV will be unavailable for anyone buying the game from now on no matter which version they buy or which order they buy them in. An entirely exclusive ship that will no longer even be available at all (except for those who already have it unlocked).

I must say I'm not too happy about having ships that 100% of new players will never ever have access to. Seems like a real waste of developer's time and efforts to create ships that no one past a certain time/date will ever have access to. Developing ships exclusively designed only for 30/40% of the players throughout ED's lifespan as apposed to 100% of all players throughout ED's lifespan is a bad move in my opinion because ships form such an integral part of the game - ships are the single most significant piece of content in ED.

I understand but you can see the reasons why at the moment it's not possible. As I said, it's not something we won't consider making available in the future.
I hope you (FD) really do reconsider the whole ship exclusivity idea. There are much better ways to offer exclusive goodies in order to boost sales without blocking players from having access to the great work that developers do on the ships in the game. Please leave exclusive bonuses the sole domain of paint jobs, bobbleheads and decals - i.e. the cosmetic stuff not the significant portions of game content. That's my opinion and feedback as a relatively happy customer/supporter so far.

Thank you kindly.

Thanks for clearing that up. In retrospect I should have read more of this thread before posting that :p

I just wanted to know how access to the Cobra Mk IV worked because its all very confusing. To me it's not so much about the quality of the ship as it as about the principles behind locking access to it. I don't agree with having ships locked behind a pay wall/timed exclusive/game version type barriers. That's what cosmetic items are for.

A question, so those of us (like myself) who bought both games will have the Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition?

Instead of a gold skin for a mid-tier ship i don't even use, can I instead get like, a cool emblem that can be applied to every ship?
A cool Neon looking one maybe?
