Awesome news! I asked my guru, Mr. Cheezle for advice, and what this news meant for Xbox CMDR's. This is what he said:

So i need to buy the ED before the changes apply to get that ship? That's another 25 euros, so the difference will rise to almost 50 with this new update in the store :/

Honestly mate, the Cobra Mk IV, it's not the greatest ship, you're not missing out.

I understand there may be this sense of your ED not being complete without it. But honestly if you had access to it, maybe you'd use it but there are much better ships in it's class that you would always choose over the Mk IV.

Depends how much free cash you've got I guess but 25 euros, for me if I paid that just to get the Mk IV I'd be regretting it shortly afterwards. It would become apparent I was paying 25 euros only because of some irrational feeling that I'm missing out. And once I had it I'd be like, ah yeah this ship is not so great, they were right!

Thank you for clarifying this.
I bought Elite Dangerous: Horizons almost 1 month ago when i found out about it on steam releases. As i did some research online in the Wiki and in the forums, I found out that the Cobra Mk.IV is only available to existing players who had the original ED before the horizons update. To be completely honest, i felt really disappointed and sad when I realized I did not have access and will be missing one of the ships, even if it is a low tier one or not use it very often. To put it simply, it was like, an "Excluded" feeling.
So, as a new player who was not aware of this game before, and who was not able to play such a grand scale game in the previous year due to University, I am asking: Is there any other way to get/purchase this ship? Even if i buy the original ED now, before the change in the store is made, is there a chance to get this ship? I am really willing to pay to get the original ED just to get the ship and complete my personal collection in-game. I am awaiting your reply and I thank you in advance.

Yes, if you purchase Elite Dangerous (£20) from Steam, you will have access to the Cobra Mk IV in game.

However, you may wish to contact our customer support department after purchase and ask them if there is anything they can do to help because you missed out on the loyalty discount. they are a pretty good team and they will try and help where possible.

If you do purchase, you can contact support here: https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/

This is somewhat looking far ahead, but when season 3 comes out, does this mean it will be possible for an owner of the original game to buy a season 3 pass without owning a season 2 pass, or will you have to upgrade to the latest season available whenever you upgrade?

In other words, season 3 includes landing on atmosphere worlds (just as an example), so I'll be able to own season 3 and season 1 and land only on atmosphere worlds but not airless worlds?

(My guess is no but I'm just asking for clarification).

The new Horizons Season pass requires Elite Dangerous base game. So it's Elite Dangerous (£20) + Elite Dangerous Season Pass DLC (£25) = £45 for Horizons.

True, for new customers.

But for people who owned prior to the Horizons preorders - It was £45 pounds for a Base Game + Horizons package, which was the only option to purchase the expansion pass at the time. It does mean that lots of people who didn't need to purchase the base game again (but had to, because it was the only option) effectively paid a £20 pound premium to preorder the expansion pass, because if they had waited until tomorrow they could have gotten the same benefit (+Horizons access on their account) for £25 instead of £45. Again, digital goods excluded from the equation.

That's a pretty big discount on the content, shortly after launch.

(Edit: to be fair, I wasn't against the price of the expansion pass when it was initially announced; I just figured it might be confusing for newbies, or discourage new players from purchasing and playing the game before the expansion released. I'm glad the scheme's a bit rationalized now, but that doesn't change the fact of the deep discount).

Maybe I'm missing the obvious (or just being generally awful at understanding things), but I have both launchers on my Steam client right now. Currently if I launch from the standard ED launcher it won't load horizons content, I have to use the Horizons launcher. So how will it work tomorrow? I'll log in and see just ED and the Horizons season pass?

Sorry for not understanding!

Do we need to do anything to our steam accounts?

I uninstalled ED: original and just run ED:H now will it be magically renamed tomorrow and all is well, or might steam get confused and have to download everything again?

Some more technical question.

When I first started with the game, things were installed in the FORC-FDEV-D-1002 folder (Beta), later changed to FORC-FDEV-D-1010 folder (linked my account to Steam). I also have another account which ended up installing in FORC-FDEV-D-1003 (Mercenary Edition). Since Horizons, all seems to be running from this one environment. Yay!!

Both accounts have the Lifetime Expansion Pass applied. I'm interested to know if this merge into the initial game on Steam will cause this path structure to return? I have several third-party programs running keeping track of the star systems I travel to/through and it made it so much more easy to not have to edit the paths to read their data from each time I switched to the other account.

It's my humble opinion that it makes a lot more sense to see these expansions - Horizons being the first - as DLC add-ons. Glad to see the game is kept in one place.

I'm confused. LEP customer here.

Lets say the delux edition is £60 I don't know but by season five does that mean someone can buy in at £60 and get all 5 seasons?

Thank you for the Asp paint job!

I hope what you've done with the pricing and such will clear up the confusion some people have about Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

Ah misread let me rephrase.

Probably yeah but I suspect no-one knows for sure at this point.

All makes sense and seems very sensible. Also a big thanks for the Asp paintjob, I reckon you could get some nice reflections from the different star types.

The new Horizons Season pass requires Elite Dangerous base game. So it's Elite Dangerous (£20) + Elite Dangerous Season Pass DLC (£25) = £45 for Horizons.

Interesting. Horizons (standalone) is £40 tonight only - I assumed the gold Asp was an incentive to get a few sales in at the old price before the new ED + Horizons Season Pass total came down below £40.

So here's the price breakdown. Looks like the new pricing is a better deal for all existing customers who have not upgraded yet, unless they are compulsive paintjob collectors, and for those who bought at the old price there is a gold paintjob, usually priced £10 in the store.

Completely new customers would have got the Gold Asp by buying EDH standalone before today, and the paintjob packs + bobblehead by getting the Deluxe Pack today, for the same price.

Well done FD for simplifying their price structure and making things better for everyone.

If you brought the LEP then you won't need to buy anything again. Next year (or the end of this one) the Deluxe edition will be updated to include Season 3, Horizons Expansion pass will more than likely be removed and the Season 3 expansion pass will be added.
