However, this does mean that Steam Horizons players will have the Horizons portion of their steam game time counter wiped as it moves back to 1 hub (the in-game counter will still work). Nothing will be effected in game but we wanted players to understand the changes and impact fully.

Is it really not possible for it to take the play time from "Elite: Dangerous" and "Elite Dangerous: Horizons" and just add them together when the merge happens?

If I have 100 Hours in E:D and 100 hours in ED: H then I should have 200 hours in E:D when they are combined.

Thats something you need to take up with Steam I assume.

To reduce confusion, Horizons will be added as a season pass DLC for Elite Dangerous, rather than an individual product. It’s a relatively small change but it means that on steam and on our store there will now be three options
I assume this means that Horizons will no-longer be marked as "Early Access". (In fact I thought the main reason it wasn't DLC in the first place was so it could be marked as "Early Access".)

And don’t forget, you still have access to the Cobra Mk IV, and this will apply to all players that buy Horizons (and already own Elite Dangerous) before the changes go live tomorrow – new players that get the new deal will not get it.

Well.... I bought the Horizon since it was possible (in August last year) and I don't have my Cobra Mk IV yet... Or, if I do have, I don't have a clue about how to get it... So, can anyone help me with that? Not that I need, I have enough in game money to buy it, but hey... Is a free ship!!!

Do you own Elite: Dangerous as well? If so then you should have the ability to purchase a Cobra Mk IV.

If you don't own both Horizons and Elite: Dangerous then you do not have access to the Cobra Mk IV - and the window of opportunity would seem to close tomorrow.

Greetings Commanders,

We wanted to get in touch to let you know about a few changes that we will be making tomorrow and bring you into the conversation with a little bit of early information.

Since the launch of Elite Dangerous Horizons we have had an incredible response from Commanders in the game. The number of amazing videos, screenshots, player events, CG’s and missions have truly taken our breath away. We are so delighted with the way that the community have taken to the game and we’re super excited for the future releases coming to Horizons throughout the season.

The Elite Dangerous community is truly the most incredible group of players we could possibly ask for. We value the thoughts and feedback from our community and we’re always looking at how we can take that feedback on board. This is why we wanted to give you these details ahead of time and be as upfront and clear of the details as possible. We are all a part of the long term development of the game and we’re delighted to be on this voyage together.

Since its launch we have heard some players say they feel confused by Elite Dangerous Horizons and how the purchasing and upgrading of the game works. Thanks to this feedback we are going to changing the way that it appears in the store and on steam.

To reduce confusion, Horizons will be added as a season pass DLC for Elite Dangerous, rather than an individual product. It’s a relatively small change but it means that on steam and on our store there will now be three options

  • Elite Dangerous
  • Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass
  • Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition

The deluxe bundle will include the base game, Horizons season pass DLC and some digital goods.

This will be beneficial in a few ways. First of all it will unite the steam community. This means that we will only have 1 community hub. This is something players have asked for and we’re happy to listen. It also means that the products are clearer for people to understand, reducing confusion, which can only be a good thing!

However, this does mean that Steam Horizons players will have the Horizons portion of their steam game time counter wiped as it moves back to 1 hub (the in-game counter will still work). Nothing will be effected in game but we wanted players to understand the changes and impact fully.

In addition to these there are a couple of other changes we will be making at the same time. The base price of the Horizons season pass DLC will be £25 (or equivalent in other currencies) and will not include access to Elite Dangerous, this must be purchased separately. It will still include the entire season of content coming in Horizons. This means that the current loyalty discount to Elite Dangerous: Horizons will no longer exist as all existing players will be able to upgrade directly to the Horizons season pass.

Finally, by way of a special thank you to everyone who has already bought Horizons before these changes are made, we are giving you an unreleased Asp Explorer gold paint job. And don’t forget, you still have access to the Cobra Mk IV, and this will apply to all players that buy Horizons (and already own Elite Dangerous) before the changes go live tomorrow – new players that get the new deal will not get it.

Here’s a look at the wonderful golden Asp which will be coming to all existing Horizons players, and those that buy before tomorrow. :)

When will get some news on Horizons?

I like the new pricing and sell scheme. It's something like this we should have had right from the beginning. I took lots of flack from some people in the Horizons price discussion thread but glad to see FD actually read some of that thread.

Makes me feel like the flack I got was worth it. Now while the pricing is somewhat off that was bound to happen as FD changes the value of content and it gets older.

My question is will seasons pricing go down some as that content gets older or will we see a "battlechest" type season bundle as we get on down the years?

Do you plan on having the deluxe edition be the season bundle?

If so consider the deluxe edition will include all seasons PLUS base game and goodies, it might be worth making a "deluxe season bundle" which includes much the same MINUS the base game and price accordingly?

I guess it depends on how you plan to make old seasons available and if their pricing will go down with time or not.

Anyways good work on changing how you are selling this.

QFT
See this math here is why I have issue with the price.. it's not a new game because they cant just sell Horizons...they HAVE TO INCLUDE THE BASE GAME otherwise how in tartarus will these new players get to the planets to land on them...lol

Lets recap new player get base game and "expansion/season" for 39£ base game sells for 29£... sooooooooo 39£-29£=10£. This to me say the expansion is worth 10£.

For my loyalty I get to pay 29£ for the expansion only and this is a fact otherwise my purchase of horizons would allow me to apply the horizons part to my existing account and I could then gift the base game to a friend, wife, child or even apply it to another account so I could get a second commander but noooooo my loyalty gets me shafted.

That's how I see it and no amount of word playing shenanigans is going to change my mind on this.

Horizons should have been priced without the base game included in it and accordingly.

Also dont tell me but but its older content yadayada, when I bought ED it wasn't selling for 29£ but for higher, the new low price is the new depreciated value of the base game.

We should have three options:

~ED base game 29£
~Horizons and base game 39£
~horizons upgrade for 10£ or 15£.

I would even be okay with 15£ as I could swallow them offering a package deal (thus the 5£ discount) to new players to entice them into buying both right away.

I have a question... Nowhere in those new 3 options is mentioned Horizons - beta version (which is the one I have)... Does that mean that beta of the patches will only be accessible to those who preordered that particular pack, or is it included in the one of the available versions?

I own Elite Dangerous on steam and i bought it there.
But i bought Horizons on the frontier store.
So where does that leave me? Do i get a code for steam so it also becomes a steam official game or?

Thank you for the free paint job.

And don’t forget, you still have access to the Cobra Mk IV, and this will apply to all players that buy Horizons (and already own Elite Dangerous) before the changes go live tomorrow – new players that get the new deal will not get it.
I have a question about the Cobra Mk IV that I've been looking for an answer to for a while. I pre-ordered Elite: Dangerous Horizons without first buying Elite: Dangerous. Do I have access to the Cobra Mk IV?

(In fact I thought the main reason it wasn't DLC in the first place was so it could be marked as "Early Access".)
Opinions vary. Some blame limited platform support (64bit only and no Mac) and increased system requirements for making it a separate product, and the early access status has quite a lengthy explanation on the store.

Copypasta of the blue box on the Steam store because that'll likely be gone soonish:
What the developers have to say:
Why Early Access?
“Elite Dangerous: Horizons is the second season of content for Elite Dangerous and begins with the release of the epic Planetary Landings expansion.

It fulfills a lifelong ambition to journey seamlessly from space to explore the surfaces of accurately simulated 1:1 scale planets and moons throughout Elite Dangerous’ multi-player, cut-throat, full scale re-creation of the 34th century Milky Way galaxy.

We’re an independent development team and Elite Dangerous is our first big self-published game after several hit games done as work-for hire projects.

All our releases go through a closed beta phase before public release, and after every Elite Dangerous public release we listen attentively and react quickly to all feedback, rapidly iterating builds where necessary.

We think Horizons is unprecedented – its already a vast new gameplay experience even by Elite Dangerous standards, and there are still other major expansions to come as part of the season. Its an absolutely pivotal step along our incredibly ambitious longer term roadmap.

We believe we have something special on our hands here, and we want as much scrutiny and feedback as possible now to help us deliver the final level polish and balancing.

We can’t wait to hear what you think!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“The exact date for coming out of Early Access will depend on feedback but we estimate sometime in the first quarter of 2016.” [Note: hit that target early then]

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The full version will incorporate feedback from the wide community and further improve polish, balancing and optimization.

Plus of course the further expansions in the Elite Dangerous: Horizons season will follow at no additional cost to Horizons players.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“We’ve completed a successful closed Beta test.

The enthusiastic efforts of thousands of Elite Dangerous community members have helped get us to a point where all systems are feature complete and have had a first level of polish and balance.

We are now ready for the scrutiny and feedback of orders of magnitude more people.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“No. There is a discount available to existing Elite Dangerous players.” [Note: *cough*]

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“We’re experienced in dealing with our highly engaged community on our own forums in beta phases. You’ll interact directly with our dev and QA teams.

I don't mind saying I think its a VERY bad move to "once again" give in to the vocal minority.

A lot of us were totally fine with the original plan, but once again highlighting that the game should never have been released on Steam, all you get on their community pages are constant whining and moaning non-stop.

If you brought the LEP then you won't need to buy anything again. Next year (or the end of this one) the Deluxe edition will be updated to include Season 3, Horizons Expansion pass will more than likely be removed and the Season 3 expansion pass will be added.

Would still like them to do an LEP deal on an ongoing basis, I'd probably buy one and I suspect many other players who weren't here at kickstarter time would too. Each new season is likely to attract completely new players, some of whom would be interested in that option. Pricing would have to be determined obviously but I can't see any downside with it as a concept.

I was ready to ask exactly how many of my close relatives I was expected to kill for the gold Asp paintjob by the way, I'd even started making a list, so getting it free is great news for me and indeed them. Now I just need some paints for my Courier (hint, hint) since I missed out on the black ones; I pre-ordered Horizons but not early enough apparently :(

thank you very much for the golden Asp!

My asp has really deserved it with the countless smuggling run performed ;)

Great move guys! Happy with the changes.

Question: I have a guide in Horizons on Steam. Will the Horizon guides be moved across to ED guides? Or will we need to recreate them?

Thanks.

When the dlc pass of the season 3 will be released, the new players will have to buy Elite Dangerous + the Horizons season pass + season 3 pass ? (if they do not purchase the Deluxe version of the season 3, of course)

:D
