Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

Wait, u cant jump carrier to system under construction??
You can. When I said "reserve," I meant to make it so that the System Architect can't be blocked from jumping their carrier in. There are systems right now where you basically have no chance of ever jumping your carrier in because it already has the max allowed carriers. This would suck if it happened to a system you're building.

Greetings Commanders,

With the launch of our Trailblazers update we will be bringing System Colonisation to Elite Dangerous! The launch of System Colonisation will be as a live Beta for the feature, allowing us to review data and make adjustments over time. This is a significant update to Elite Dangerous and whilst we are very happy with the feature we do understand that some fine tuning may be required initially.

Though this is a Beta it will be on the live version of the game and any actions/progress made will NOT be wiped unless a significant issue is identified. Here is a brief explanation of how the Beta works:

✅ What the System Colonisation Beta is
  • Feature complete
  • All actions/resource payments made are final and will not be refunded
  • A period where we can monitor data and make balancing adjustments

❌ What the System Colonisation Beta is not
  • A work in progress
  • There will be no progress wipes
  • There will be no resource refunds

The aim of the Beta is to gather data and feedback specifically focused on resource balancing. We are happy with the System Colonisation feature itself and whilst we are always happy for you to share your feedback the aim of this Beta is aimed firmly at resource balancing and not changes to the feature itself.

To help us in our balancing we will be using this thread for you to share your feedback on the following areas:
  • Amount of resources required
  • Amount of time/distance taken to complete tasks
As always you are welcome to share additional feedback on the forums or to raise an issues you encounter on our Issue Tracker.
Just a quick question there FDEV, uhh. the bug that caused me to stop being recognized as the system architect? can that be fixed?

This has happened to me this morning, so really I hope so. Yesterday 80% complete, today no claim :(
The maybe good news is, I visited the system with a secondary account and the system is still claimed and the required materials are where I left them on my primary account.
Just waiting for the daily tick to see if it comes back.

I just finished my primary port (Vulcan Outpost) and architect status have returned. System icon on map changed from red cross to yellow triangle and can select construction sites in architect view.

I also send information about the loss of the status of an architect. Thanks FDEV!

We built an Orbis within a week.
49k Ls away from system entry point. Without using carriers.

2 CMDRs doing the grunt work (around 100k tons), one helping quite some with 18k and a few more with around 2-5k.

It's fine. Shouldn't be lower. It's perfectly achievable for even a small group. And without time constraints it is perfectly soloable.

You can haul 4k in an hour at a decent spot. So an orbis is something like 60 hours hauling. Get 10 people and you are done in 2 evenings. Do it yourself and you are done in one or two months, while not being overly active.

Don't mean to be disrespectful, but not everyone has that much time. Of course no feature should be for everyone, but 60 hours of hauling? Listen to that for a bit. If you've got 3 hours a day to play, which is normal if you have a job, that takes you 20 days.

Not to mention it's 3 hours a day doing hauling for 20 days straight. I enjoy it to a certain degree... but it's obviously also not a very replayable activity when it comes to content. If somebody is spending 3 hours a day for 20 days building a space station well, it's very likely they'll finish it, call it a day and never engage with the feature again. Doing something like that certainly melts brains.

We could talk about the consequences of pumping out stations and systems too fast, about time constraints, suspension of disbelief (more technically speaking you'd need nearly 3 billion tons of commodities to build a coriolis, not 50 thousand), etc... but as far as gameplay goes, well the numbers aren't entirely reasonable.

Game developers are game designers, they can come up with thousands of different ideas to address any of the problems you may bring up with as far as "completing stations would be too easy". Modular completion, timers, wait times, etc... anything that doesn't get you to haul 300 thousand commodities 700 at a time every 10 minutes though.

I don't really mind taking long to complete something. But you know, it depends how I do it... Hauling alone and nothing but hauling is certainly not something you can expect players to do for 3 hours a day for 20 days in order to complete a single station.

And it's not like you're completing the mother of all stations. It's an Orbis/Ocellus stations. They ain't even that many times bigger than a Coriolis are they? Compared to how long it takes you to build one?

Claim system
Deploy beacon
Wait for Colonization ship (never arrives)
Log in next day - "invalid system"
Communication from the developers: "........"

The joys of beta-testing on live

HELP! I've encountered that bug in the game where I'm no longer showing as the system architect, indeed nobody is! I've restarted the game, logged out of and back into the launcher, restarted the PC, even launched the game from behind a VPN, but none of it has worked.

Has anybody else found a solution to this please?

Fun tale of woe. Built two outpost systems on way to a nice system with an ELW and significant number of bodies. Busted my butt for 2 days on the two outposts. Just as I finish outpost number 2 to claim the system I was going for, someone must have been waiting for me to complete and nabbed it. I wasted no time, jumped in ship, went straight to new outpost, hit the system contact, it was available....but when I clicked it was taken. Must have beat me to it by a microsecond. I'd be salty as hell at the commander but if I am being honest, I'd have been tempted to do the same had I come across that situation.

While it was first come first serve...I do wonder if an hour exclusivity period should happen for the station builder to dock or use the colony contact when the builder completes a station. That way the person who did the work gets an hour of exclusive use to reward the work.

Just a thought.

The current problem with System Architect status really highlights how bloody useless the Issue Tracker automatic search function is - the latest 150 or so bug reports are all variations on “I lost my system” and the fifth most voted* for report is the same problem 😅

*Edit: now also marked as “duplicated” without a link to the live issue report - while other “duplicated” reports are linking to the now closed report. Rubbish system, but hopefully this particular issue will be cured with today’s update.

Personally, I don't think an hour of exclusivity is a bad idea. And very sorry for your loss. If it's any consolation, the Bubble is expanding so rapidly that even better systems may be reachable soon.

As far as we can tell, the feature was taken offline last night due to someone cheating.

I think we can expect a communication from FD this morning once they have investigated the matter and decided upon a course of action.

I doubt anyone has lost anything, its just the feature is offline, and when it comes back, everyone's status will be restored, except for the little piece of dung who cheated.

Still think my theory is still a viable alternative,

The BGS has seen the player expansion and has now decided 'it' is in taking control back, so it has removed the architects and is now going continue expanding the bubble under its control 🤖

I claimed a system, deployed the buoy and the colonisation ship arrived. It demanded 60 Kt (!!!) for a simple outpost in a one-body system, so yesterday i cancelled my claim and lost the 25 MCr. Now today, I can't claim a different system, I just keep getting a red system claim unsuccessful message. Any ideas whats going on and how long this will be blocked out? I can see several people have complained but I haven't seen that anyones gotten an answer, so apologies if this duplicates an issue
