Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

Why should an entire star system be organized by one single person? Why can’t I pay extra money, or at worst Arx, to hire workers?

I know they stated they are happy with the feature and only looking to adjust amounts. But as a simulation game, I agree, on the colony ship I wish I could "buy" the commodity for 10000% more than the galactic average to just have it delivered in the next 24 hours.

Too easy to exploit and clog up systems by delivering 1 unit every 29 days
Probably, but it does not stop to do the same for the carriers. My will be in-game for 10 years if I quit :)
My point is, it is too annoying to have time limited todos. I never do "daily" for example in any game. Because I don't want the feeling of the 2nd job.
Once full lists will be published, I could try to build something using fully loaded carrier by mats.

How comes I'm seeing a system Colonisation Ship in an inhabited system?

That's why I wonder why I need to spend at least 100 hours building. I'm playing the game, not living in it.
I doubt you have to. Just load carrier periodically, when you will get full set of those slow mats, then only start the building.

Yikes, I'm hopeful for this long fantasized feature to have been implemented but my dream is already crushed given my destination goal is 7000 light years away. Even if I min-maxxed colo-hopping I'm not seeing this happening. Maybe if I started from a place that has population in a small nebula or w/e I could cut it down to 2000 light years. Then again will the neighboring systems have actual commodities I need to do the colonization?
The desire to set up a colonization cluster far out as an explorer's gather point with interesting neighboring features to refill on certain mats to jump boost I'm afraid this isn't going to happen.

How many carriers will I need for this?

The current iteration of the feature allows player control close to the core bubble, and really fails to deliver on the theme of expansion of civilization. Despite the update being called "trailblazers", it will take literal IRL years before people have settled even a few thousand LY from the bubble. A chain from Sol to Colonia would take 29 years. Really hope they open up the range, and allow settling out of Colonia. Otherwise it does not deliver on the theme of the feature

When I just delivered a load of steel to my construction ship I could swear I saw the amount I need to deliver go up by 300 - 400 tonnes instead of down, the percentage of construction went up as it should. I'll be keeping my eye on this as it could be a bug.

  • I liked the process for claiming and then setting down the beacon
  • Logged back into the game later and my claim has disappeared though the colonisation ship still seems to be there - on my way so I hope that's just a visual bug rather than having really lost my claim but in the system map I don't see the + icons any more or my name as system architect...
  • As I couldn't choose the location of the colonisation ship, it's 400k ls away from the main star...! That really is a significant issue when we're likely to be using Cutters and T9s to carry cargo that burn through fuel on SC overcharge - only got 100k ls of the way there before I had to drop to normal SC - we really need to be able to choose the location of that first station. That effectively makes it impossible for me to realistically get the cargo needed there.
  • 15ly range is still too low - 25-50 seems like a more sensible range. We're still going to take ages to get anywhere even at that range and the bigger issue is the volume of hauling so it's somewhat self limiting anyway.
