Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Claim Pause

That's expected - the colonisation ship returns to its origin system after the initial station is complete.

(Hopefully they get cleaned up on Thursday mornings, or there's going to be thousands of them everywhere)
What is the in-game/lore reason for this? I mean, why do they need to go back there, do they continue to serve some purpose that I'm not aware of? Why don't they just de-spawn?

As explorers, many of us want to leave the bubble and go out into unexplored space. We don't want the bubble following us. Endless chains of stations out thousands of light years, which is absolutely possible with the state in which trailblazers was released, is unduly intrusive. Especially because human inhabited systems (and presumably also colonized systems) cause other signals to start spawning around them, including npc pirates with random interdictions. System signals can spawn out some 500+ ly. Ephemeral planetary signals can spawn as far as 2500 ly out - you start to realize you're getting close to the bubble or Colonia when you start noticing that signal noise.
We talked about this on the IEA Discord, but you might have missed it then: it doesn't look like inhabited systems, original or colonized, cause signals to start spawning around them. Rather, it's zones centered on fixed systems - I'm pretty sure it's Sol, and Colonia, although since the signals seem to drop out around 510 ly from Sol, it might be something else or just coordinates instead. (Also, farthest planetary signals I could find were a pair of Surface excavations on the same body, 540 ly away - thirty other systems, not a single spawn on any bodies I mapped. I doubt that 2,500 ly is still correct.) Maybe Frontier will change things so that player-settled systems will all have their own zones around them, but I don't expect they will.

So, as things are now, you won't encounter anything more in uninhabited systems than what's already here.

What will be done to counter system snipers? I Built a chain of 8 systems solo, legitimately only for all of my progress to be undermined by a ganker who camped my outpost and took the system I was building to. Then when I went to message the person, they blocked me, they knew exactly what they were doing.

how do you plan to reward commanders for actually building their own outpost daisy chains when system sniping is almost incentivized right now.?
I'm sorry to hear about your ganker experience. I completely agree: this is a serious issue and a major source of frustration.

Commanders who have invested considerable effort in establishing daisy-chains towards specific systems should really be granted priority access - even a 10-minute head start would be nice!

It's disheartening to see fleet carriers, located as far as 50 LY from the nearest populated system, being renamed with claims such as "I CALL DIBS ON [system name]", despite contributing nothing towards the chain's development. More could be done to reward dedicated trailblazers for doing the groundwork.

Well, for a moment my system was my colony again. Finished the station, added a settlement construction and logged out. Now back to red X and no architect role. So I guess this is borked till tomorrow at least.

Is everyone getting the "Not the system architect" when trying to place a new settlement or is it just me? I'm starting to worry...

that's exactly what came to mind for me as well. 10 minutes is fine too yeah, i thought at least a 24 hour period for the owner of the system to get first dibs, because people can still finish your outpost when you're asleep and take your system path that way too, even if its less gank-y it would still help reward players actually putting in the work not to be undermined.

I think it is a state tracking bug right now. I got my status back for one session placed a settlement and now I’m no longer architect again but I see other under construction systems again. I’d not worry too much yet.

There's going to be a CG that adds Megaships at various places in the Bubble that carry large amounts of commodities used for constructing colonies so you can just go to them to load up vs going to ground settlements or stations.
Wrong tense, the CG, and its bounty hunting counterpart, has been running for nearly two weeks and will finish in about 16 hours of posting, due to the low turnout (12,749) as everybody was off colonising it looks like there will only be 5 of the planned megaships produced.

It is suspected by some that the original plan was to start the CG earlier to finish in time for the Trailblazer launch but the CG prior to it got extended due to lockdown.

This seems like the least-ganky ganking ever. I'm not sure why people think they are entitled to daisy chains. I've also seen someone complaining recently because they saw someone daisy chaining to a world they had their FC parked at, ready to colonize right when the bubble got there. They were complaining that those people shouldn't be able to also claim "their" system since they'd been parked there and patiently waiting.

So many people really think systems "belong" to them.

Haven't they heard that the more they tighten their grip, the more star systems will slip through their fingers?

What difference does it make? He's going to have to build out the system, now, or it'll go back on the market when the timer runs out. If he builds his Primary Port, it'll still have YOUR faction as the dominant faction when it is complete. And you can always claim the next link in the daisy chain from HIS port if you want to. Or, assuming there are other viable candidates for the daisy chain (there usually are), you can just go "around" his claim. Either way another link in the chain gets built.

You think you are adversaries but you're just grumpy collaborators. You have 8 systems to build out while he's building your next outpost FOR you.

Anyway - if you have the option you should totally make a point of claiming first footfall and first map on as many of "his" planets as you possibly can.

It makes no sense at all that one single CMDR can coloniza an entire system
Even if the CMDR has enough money to pay for it,... Where is he going to find and convince thousands of people to move to the new system?

There will always be those disadvantaged or oppressed who wish something better for their families or loved ones. Pretty sure there were incentives offered to those willing to take a risk and move.

Yes, this is what unintended chain reactions look like.
