Greetings Commanders!

The new Elite Dangerous game feature of System Colonisation is jumping ever nearer to our home system and we know you may have lots of questions about just what it might entail.

To that end we've created this thread for you to ask the questions about System Colonisation you want answered so we can look to bring you a response to as many of them as possible soon!

Is this going to be directed at groups and the Open game or are solo players like myself going to be able to utilise it?
 
What mechanics does the colonisation update have to make colonisation of far-out systems possible within the lifetime of the game and the lifetime of the players?

Or phrased differently: How have you ensured that players can create bubbles 10k-50k light years out within the next decade?

Asked above, and perhaps BETA would be a different animal: Along with how much seed money, will there be maintenance fees (like the weekly Fleet Carrier upkeep) or can the system be self-sustaining once set up? Concern is with Fleet Carriers and now colonization we will become more like Admins and less like pilots :)

When Colonization is launched will CMDR's be able to create "New Player Minor Factions" again to help populate this Galactic expansion ? o7 . Really excited for Elite Dangerous's future.
 
Will there be a reasonable path for a combat¹ pilot to be an Architect, founding and funding a new system oneself without having to do cargo² runs all week?

1. Or non-cargo generally; many Explorers will be excited about colony ships, but less so about equipping cargo racks.
2. There ought to be ways one can achieve cargo movement without carrying it personally; for example, a combat mission to protect a convoy which adds cargo from the surviving vessels.
 
How much customisation will be possible as the Architect?

For example, what limits are there on placing bases, are they placed 'whole' or can I make my own out of prefabs?

Could I replicate an engineer base that is on multiple levels (i.e. it has pads across a valley), has multiple pieces and is more visually interesting than say single slab bases like the big circular star cities?

An example of an engineer base that is 'split'- could we do something the same?
