News Elite Dangerous: The Commanders (2.3) beta

My thoughts on Space Legs (Elite Feet):
I'm not expecting it for 2.3 or even this season. But I do think it would make sense this season. And here's why:
Many think that the plan is to first allow for walking around ships/cockpits. If this is the case, there are 2 things to keep in mind.
1. What would the gameplay be?
2. Would this be big enough to headline a new version (3.0)?

The gameplay would be doing ship functions/roles/repairs/scanning. This is the kind of thing we're hoping comes with Multicrew. Yes, some of these might not be there for seated multicrew and might only come with walking around but, this brings us to point 2.
Would the addition of the whatever is missing from seated multicrew on foot in ships be a big enough 3.0 release?

Assuming Elite Feet is next season (which I am), The first installment of the season (3.0) would have to come with something more than just walking around your ship, even if there is functions/roles/repairs/scanning as this is going to be partially done already by 2.3.

I see 2 possibilities.
1. Feet in ships this season. OR
2. Much more than just Feet in ships as the headline of next season.

Nobody going to (over) analyse the photo?

EDIT: link to big version = https://forums-cdn.frontier.co.uk/images/misc/multicrew-original.jpg
I can see:

Helm = red baldy, aka pilot (in the proper British right-hand drive position :p )
- no new gameplay elements
- facial expression may confirm colostomy bag upgrades

Fire Control = Sinead O'Connor

- she's targeting a different ship to helm (targeting planet) with "Target Locked" shown
- multi-depth HUD is a targeting sensor (shooting a turret? as you can see something like bullets in mid-flight)
- possibly a mini-game to keep lock-on?
- "1,2,3" looks almost hand drawn, shields and SCBs?
- also has current shields and hull indicators

Tactical = silhouette in back console
http://i.imgur.com/OmAMYyr.jpg
- own ship targeted
- blue circle HUD element is shield adjustments?
- incoming damage on front-left nose
- has a message "warning shield low", but own ship at full rings?
- white turret HUD element, boosting energy to it?
- sensor panel to left

Engineer = not seen
- heading towards escape pods "bailing before scrubs kill me!"?

That about right ;)

I really do hope that multicrew works within the elite universe so that its not immersion breaking and you actually meet the crew at a station first before boarding the ship.

I think expecting Elite Feet and full station interiors and loads of walking around etc might be a bit much.... I'm not sure how dropin/dropout multicrew could be any more 'immersion breaking' than the current crew mechanics - I'd expect that if i were you.

As i have no personal interest in Multicrew with human, i still await 2.3 for extra features. I have to say sometimes, every update just could not satisfy everyone !

Unfortunately nothing, yet, to satisfy some who play in solo. Since dropping offline, now that FD have our money, people who play solo (for that offline experience), are being ignored ... IMO. :)

Holy sh...

GUYS, I was making a JOKE when I said the beta would start like next week!

Holy moly! Awesome news!

Really? Aside from the entire game, what about SLF and crew mate?

The told you why offline wasn't viable, you wouldn't have any background simulation etc.

SPACE! finally some great news about the next update, awesome ! :)

Go Frontier! I'm holding my thumbs for Ya! cant wait to see it!

I really hope that this time there wont be as much whining from the unpleased crowd that could dub this one "multiscrew", as was with "rngneers".

Cheers guys, do Your thing and show us stuff! xD

And thanks for constantly improving Your game and listening to Your community.

Nah, it will be slightly more popular than CQC, but yes the majority of the playerbase won't use a multicrew feature without NPC crews.

I'm looking forward to more details on 2.3 but honestly right now, with what we know, there's just nothing in 2.3 for me to use in game. I'm hoping there are some more improvements and features which might affect my playstyle, that of an explorer mostly. [uhh]

This. Braben even flat out stated that multi-crew is mostly for combat/pvp scenarios, so outside of whatever alien/mystery updates that are included with 2.3, multicrew and commander creator may end up having nothing for me at all.

If there's no NPC multicrew, then WHAT, exactly, will I be testing in solo? Because without NPC multicrew, it'll be another pointless update IMO. :)

And the last thing I want in MY ship, is another idiot. ;) :D

I'm guessing there are going to be a bevvy of fixes and minor enhancements across the board. I too will probably not be testing the headlining feature, but I've got a list of things I'm hoping to see get corrected.
