Makes sense. He wanted to get big name player groups involved . He publicised this event as PvP and wanted to get people on both sides or there would be no PvP. SDC saying "we're gonna protect her" and being believed by anyone is the only thing that makes no sense.
The big player bad guy groups. Groups who were already infamous, so being held responsible for the death of a popular lore character would not be a minus, but a plus. From what we know, when Salome's ship was destroyed it had already suffered a lot of damage - from Code ships. I'm pretty sure one of the two groups was supposed to get the kill. To me what seals the deal was that Drew was the one playing as Salome, and that he flew pretty suicidally when he was finally alone in an instance with his assailant. Given that it was SDC's own Rinzler who made all the "this is how you survive in open" videos, I'm pretty sure that if Salome was meant to survive, either a top tier PvP'er would have been playing her, or Drew would have practiced survival tactics.
