Elite Dangerous | Trailblazers coming 26th February

Would also make sense for Frontier to put these 9 year old assets to use.

It's also possible there are new assets in this role. I remember from the first look at colonisation, where they showed the Depots for the first time, they mentioned further assets to be revealed, and I don't think we've seen them as yet..

Technically the answer is "both". Trailblazers will introduce System Colonisation as a beta but in the live game. Keep an eye on our forums, website and social channels as we'll be providing more details on what that all means a little closer to release.
I guess this means, that if we've got it spot on or mostly right (i.e. it just needs a few tweeks), then it stays in. If it turns into a dumpster fire, ie.e destroying the BGS and PP, we reserve the right to yank it out, wipe any progress and put back in later when we think we've got it better!

😁

There's going to be a scramble to colonise certain systems, regardless of what system is or is not put in place to distribute colonisation rights.
True but as I doubt that (m)any of the systems within the first few 10Ly jumps outside the bubble are that desirable things shouldn’t get too vicious.

Faction focussed players trying to colonise out from inside the bubble might have a rougher time assuming there are enough of them and a limited enough number of systems that will let them escape. Which prompts nasty thoughts of just colonising systems to block routes out of the bubble.

1. There is still a lot of interesting systems inside the Bubble so if someone is interested to develkop own BGS or PP, to create routes for trafing, there is still a lot of wokr inside.
2. We are checking systems outside the Bubble, and after around 25 systems we see 5 really good systems for colonisation, so stats are pretty good IMO. And that 5 systems are from only 3 based colonised systems and searching only 10Ly around them.

Video by CMDR Mechan about Trailblazers.

He said first-come first serve is a frustrating mechanism for claiming systems. There are other ways to have a fair chance to claim a system beacon such as auctions, lotteries, provide an opportunity to have a fair chance to claim it.

It's a bit late to be complaining about a first come, first serve basis. That's how discoveries are made and claiming a system would naturally be the same thing. Otherwise it would get very complicated. Though, I must admit, the idea of some systems going to the highest bidder might be interesting, though only if you have to be present onfoot in the game at the time of the auction, and without weapons restrictions.

Have you got a timestamp to where this was stated? It’s something I’ve been wondering about … since it’s only the first station which has a time limit on it (and if you fail to build it you lose your claim) it would make sense to build a small station first (which presumably has lower completion requirements). Where did they say we can’t build an outpost first?
Honestly, an outpost would make more sense to begin with as it would make one wonder why any systems have outposts if colonization was meant to represent how colonization occurred in-verse. Not that it will keep me up at night though.

If 1 faction / person claims a star system why can't 10 other factions dispute the claim? That's what happens in real life. Many countries claim a slice of Antarctica and dispute each other's claims.

Colonization will be anticlimatic. Highly scripted, mega grindy, and none's expectations of how it would look & feel will be met.

Yes worst case is super grindy with little pay off.

That's the spirit. In fact they should just not bother.

No, that's my 10+ years of experience here.

All they can do drastically is to remove content that was interesting and fun - starting from Robigo dope/slaves smuggling (it was exciting and fun) right to all this AX thingy that energized thousands and thousands of players, who made huge efforts to make AX builds and learn the ways, fantastic maelstroms to be punched, Titans to be bombed... "nah, remove it, let's push them into 'PP2.0, it will be soooo amazing' - poor sods would be forced to play it because we removed everything else."

Most idiotic behavior, unfair to players.

FDevs, do not remove content that people liked. Leave it, and introduce whatever you want, but leave the fun stuff we already had and loved.

Colonization will be boring and grindy. Like PP2.0 is.

I like the fresh look to the game Frontier has now, and finantial stats speaks itself. Game needs to earn money to develop.

The system is designed specifically to prevent that happening, which is why there's a timer so if the claimer doesn't actually do anything it expires then someone else can claim it. With the system of disputation a popular system could effectively be locked out forever by a particular group if they decide they don't want anyone setting up there by just disputing any claims over and over again.

Yeah my reply was to show that it's an unrealistic system.

Alternatively, they could let multiple players / factions place beacons in an unclaimed system. The faction that completes the grindy goal first gets the system. Bigger player groups have an advantage, but it enables competition rather than first come, first serve.
