Elite Dangerous Update 14 Release Schedule

Indeed people are joking about the "legacy" systems holding on more than expected and at this stage, I half think (and more hope) the that or something similar is the case!

Partly I'm expecting an announcement that the games' network codes was stronger than expected and they can't cut the "legacy" systems off from Galnet and CGs without knocking all versions of the game offline or maybe even more so, that they were reading their contracts with Sony and Microsoft and they're not allowed to cut us off at such short notice, not without giving us our own Galnet, CGs etc and equivalents and or adding a significant amount of new content to "legacy" mode to make up for their loss!

Which would see us all playing together at least until update 15, anyway, only time will tell! 😯😂😀🤘🤞

Wow...That takes me back. Clunky old things... And then getting my ludicrous speed 2400 baud modem and Fidonet and BBS's. Ah, heady days....:)

The last thing we need here today after all this waiting for updates to happen are for spoilers that are spoiled to be spoiled by someone that wants to spoil them for us.

don't worry, i won't be spoiled and spoil the spoilers you can rest easy, i won't tell that the stargoids were actually rick gervais clones and they are wreacking havoc on the bubble as we speak, i would never

I'm a contractor working for a government entity, building an application that has millions of users. If it went down for hours that would be viewed as a serious problem. So i don't understand why people on here are thinking it's no big deal when Elite goes down.

Remember, Stargoid anomalies move at relativistic speed, making accurate predictions about their arrival somewhat tricky. It's entirely plausible (in a Schrödingerian/Einsteinian sense) that the Thargoids arrived in time, while in fact we are still waiting for them. 😵‍💫
Not really, at least if you believe in Super Determinism, which "solves" not only when they will arrive, but also solves the compatibility problem with QM and Relativity. Only one catch, being that your free will is an illusion, but anyways, free will is only valuable, if you could reverse time and chose differently. Which BTW. you rarely would, even if you could do backwards causation using a time machine.

  • Commanders playing 'Live' have a new option in the Options menu to 'reset to orbit', in order to release themselves from unintended tricky situations.
Wonder if there will be a cooldown for this function. If not, this might be a fast ticket to orbit :D

The most obvious way: have a cutter auto-dock at a carrier or megaship (manual docking may lead to a lot of struggles too)
For full effect, try to come from behind the carrier/megaship or from the sides

Alternatively, you can test by boosting, then zeroing thrusters at a predetermined point in horizons, then do the same in odyssey.
Notice the braking distance between the game versions.
Best done above a carrier since you have certain carrier features as cues for triggering the brakes.

The issue is mostly visible with ships that are drifty by nature, but i've had even my dbx having a pendulum approach when landing at a carrier
Also noticeable when comming down above planetary surface, nose down - the front revers thrusters cannot really brake/held the ship, not even in low-G planets.
Are you basically saying that the ships' reverse thrusters are crap? Because this has been driving me insane. I just assumed I forgot how sluggish my ship was with the military grade armor vs lightweight that I used to use, as well as the fact that I'd not played in a while due to the whole console development thing - even though I know that, deep down, I know my ship like the back of my hand and that something was definitely off. So many times after a landing, I'd just sit there, like... "do I really suck THIS bad at landing, now? What the hell happened?!"

It doesn't always happen, though, does it? I feel like I've definitely landed normally, as I used to, plenty of times.

I suspect any Government entity has a much larger budget. And it's not like Government IT projects haven't ever been late, not to mention massively over budget and not fit for purpose.
They're doing their best with what they have - give them the space to get it done.

Is it recreational software?
If it went down for hours that would be viewed as a serious problem.
Indeed!
So i don't understand why people on here are thinking it's no big deal when Elite goes down.
It's just a game, it is late updating, the world will probably still be here in a few hours, the sky isn't actually falling...

i mean i do agree at some degree that too much delay is an issue, but elite is not a twitter or a facebook(too much users) or a necessary service/government site that has to be online at all times, it is a niche game and seems like most of the gamers dont mind waiting a few hours delay. yes it is paid and they could adjust their schedule to prevent these delays, but things happen.

i'd rather have some hours of delay for a decent reason than a week delay for a ridiculous one, and they've done that a few months back, i just don't recall why

matter of fact if we had odyssey launch delayed that could have changed the course of the DLC, so yeah

Probably because Elite, while still popular and with a sizable playerbase, isn't an application that has significant impact on people's daily lives, their health, income and ability to function in society.

besides income(unless ur a CC), i do believe elite do have significant impact to some on the other matters, which would be worrying if it was me but since it aint, such is life

That was about it. The era of taking twenty minutes or so to download a 200Kb file....if you were lucky.
When I was a child with my brand new C64 and its cassette deck, I tried to put a data cassette into a regular cassette audio player and pressed Play. I heard strange noises. Much later I realized that they were (no, not Thargoid noises!) modem data transfer sounds.
