Elite: Dangerous will not let me change my frame rate limit to 120 Hz in VR for my Valve Index

My problem is pretty mych entirely in the title. I recently got a Valve index which is capable of 80, 90, 120, and 144 Hz refresh rates. I put my Index into 120 Hz mode, but the setting "Frame Rate Limit" in Elite: Dangerous is locked at 90Hz while in VR.

There are options which can be selected above 90 Hz in the setting, and I can select 120Hz, click apply, it asks if I'm sure I want to change my settings and it acts as though it let me change it, however when I re-enter settings it still shows 90 Hz. I have even gone so far as changing the settings file in C:\Users\MY USER NAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\DisplaySettings.xml to say 120 rather than 90, but once the game is started and the setting are opened, it still shows 90 Hz and the settings file has also been changed back.

Is there any way to get Elite to accept my input for this setting? I am assuming it forces 90 in VR simply since that's been the standard for VR for awhile; but times are changing and headsets are evolving to higher refresh rates.

I think these settings only apply to your monitor and not your HMD. While playing in VR, you should try pressing Ctrl+F to see what FPS the game is running. With my Rift I'm getting 90 FPS and I've never changed anything in the section you're showing.

I think they changed that in a recent patch to avoid overheating of the HMD. yes, look here:

Capped the frame rate whilst on the main menu to 90fps, to stop HMD's overheating

Don't know how to switch it off, though. AFAIK the framerate limit you can set in Display.xml only affects to monitor window, but I could be wrong ofc. If it gets reset, did you try to write protect that file?

Was this you? Same issue: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/6741

If not might want to lend your voice to the issue.

Yes, that was me

you set the frame rate and resolution in steam , the in game frame rate and resolution is for your monitor mirror.

I hope that is the case. The bug report is still in the 'confirming' status and if this is whats happening, I think that would be relayed.

Yes, I put in my original post that I set the file to read only. The file does stay at 120 when I save it at that then put on read only mode, but the game options still say 90 Hz with the file saying 120 when I do that.

According to those patch notes it says in the main menu, so I will try setting it to 120 when in game. The main menu is surprisingly demanding on the hardware so it makes sense why they did that.

Pimax 5K+ getting 120Hz soon although only on small fov. It will be interesting to see if there are benefits I can detect.

Will only be a benefit if your pc can run the game at 120fps... I tried 120 on the index but couldn't keep the fps at 120, max I achieved was around 105... 2080ti oc, 5ghz 32GB ram...
