Elite is a disaster and creators couldn't care!

New rig Ryzen 9 / GF 3060 / Prime B550M-A / 32GB / 1TB SSD.

Had a great time flying around SOL last night - its a shame I couldn’t land on IO but Odyssey looks great with all the new lighting. I landed at an entertainment settlement but an NPC lady rushed over to my ship and started firing at it. I didn’t get my drink at the bar, had to smash her in the face a few times cos I didn‘t know the on foot controls, then legged it away.

I must have a fine or something. Frames were ok ( 60 space / 40-45 on foot areas ) but obv should be better. One crash. Lots of love needed for some of the SOL planets 🪐

I didn’t use FSR or whatever it is - just normal SS 1.5 at 2k. At standard high setting - I turned bloom down.

I noticed some freezes for microseconds but that can only be CPU and not GPU. As the machine is Vanilla at moment and only Elite installed so no other software bugging in.

Happy journeys

I think what I mean is rather then swearing and ranting, say something of constructive speech..
I was shaking my.......head because 'Please keep it constructive' & 'Elite is a disaster & creators couldn't care !' are completely contradictory. I'm fine with people being 'nonconstructive' about the game/developers/whatever, but you poo'd the bed from the outset.

Content creators get revenue by getting viewers to click on their content.

If players stop watching ED based content, they have to move on if they want a revenue stream.

Can't blame them. Console players aren't likely to be intensely following Oddity content so they lose a big chunk of their audience just due to that.

Until FD gets Oddity sorted out and available on consoles, the content creators are likely to be focused on other stuff.

Exigious has even shut down his website.

Quite sad - but understandable.

So at the begining I was all set to buy EDO , I've been playing since 2016( console) and before that on speccie and Amiga . There is no wow nothing that makes me want to buy .
Please Fdev make me want to buy it ... Please

I really don't think a game that has been the love child of David Braben since the 80s is anywhere near being unloved and having a team working on it that don't care. What I do think is a lot of mistakes were made and that Frontier underestimated Odyssey. For the most part the CMs have communicated the unhappy feelings of the player base. That's clear to see with the new comms, roadmaps and work thats already been done on Odyssey.

Doom thread. But sure, why not?

Don't care about content creators (specifically reviewers), in general. They can move on, that's entirely ok with me. Really, everyone can & should move on, if they're not having fun. ED is a game, afterall.

There have been lots of opinions on how to make things better, but a good ol' solid round of bugfixes makes probably the most sense.

I'd also work on tech debt, maybe improve things that we, players, can't see, but might make our lives better in the long run (ahem environment management, deployment, and QA processes). I'd also probably devote teams, if I could, to tools & game engine dev (which I think they do, but don't know for sure).

Regardless, feature development (panther clipper, mining QoL improvements, a new SRV, etc) might be low on the priority list....at least for me. I'm sure there are lots of other opinions here.

All the bug squashing can't mask the real problem: lack of content.
I've asked this before but don't recall any substantive reply.
When posters say ED lacks content they need to first define content.
Are you looking for something like a single-player campaign with storyline?
Or random dead alien cities and stuff to find in the black?
Player driven something-something?
What is "content"?

The reality that we all need to consider is that it's likely that ED is near EOL given the age of it's code base and the fact that developer turnover is probably having a significant effect on further development. The project was originally predicted to be about 10 years duration and we are getting pretty close to that time span.

Oddity is likely the last major upgrade to ED and it's remaining life span will mostly be minor tweaks.

It's pretty obvious from the recurring bugs that get fixed and then return in subsequent builds that the code base is unwieldly and difficult to update, especially when early developers are likely long gone.

So there we are

Enjoy what's left while you can before it's gone all together.

Maybe FD will develop a new engine and new version of Elite, but this version is likely nearing EOL
