Elite on the Oculus Quest - Amazing!

Ok and I'm assuming I've done something wrong...connected the quest to the pc oculus app and used the beta connection to allow quest to essentially replace the rift s in sound and VR.
Fired up ed went in and....omg! Pants! Total pants! Compared to my rift my missus's quest was low res lag shaking pants.
Now I did the cable test it passed and afaik I did it all right.
Please tell me I'm wrong and cocked it up
When I tested the Quest (during its original Link beta period) I thought the performance and quality was noticeably worse than with my Rift S with the same ED settings - it was a bit like going back to my Rift CV1 at lower HMD Quality and permanently sat in ASW.

I think there must be some serious video compression going on to get everything pushed down the USB3. Did you try knocking the settings down?

Ahh, didn't work. Oculus software knows that ED is running but in the 3d options HMD doesn't show up.

I have two options, Ana-something or other that I can't pronounce, and side by side.

I think it's my gpu; being in a laptop I don't think the Oculus software recognises it.

Shame..

Hi Talzus, a rough guide that will hopefully get you into the game:
  • Install Oculus software on your desktop
  • Connect your Quest and follow any instructions
  • Settings/General/Unknown Sources <enable this setting in Oculus
  • Start ED
  • Options/Graphics/3D/HMD(Headphones) <enable this setting in ED
I’d already got Oculus installed for my Rift S before I connected the Quest, but the process was very simple. One other thing for me, I need to start the ED launcher before the Oculus software otherwise the ED launcher crashes.

Hope it all works, it’s an amazing experience!
Was meant to post this with the above..

Ah, that’s the red/blue glasses option & SBS.

With the Oculus software running, if you plug your Quest into a USB3 port, is it detected? The Quest should show up in the Devices section.

Also, from the v17 Oculus software notes:
  • During setup, the Oculus desktop app will now let you know if your USB cable meets the standards required to power Link.
Edit: further detailed instructions can be found under “Setting up your Quest with Oculus Link”:

Yeah I get a green tick and inside the headset it offers to launch link.

There is a problem with the oculus software where it won't detect a dedicated gpu in a laptop, only the integrated one.

Until that's patched out, no vr for me..

Thanks for the assistance though. Least I know its not me being dumb :)

That’s a pity, can’t you go through the relevant executables and set the default graphics adapter to your dedicated graphics?

I don’t miss all the faff with Optimus on my old laptop, it’s a dedicated “old game” machine now so it doesn’t matter what it decides to use :)

Have you tried the Oculus v18 software in the Public Test Channel?

Yes to both of the above; the only thing I've not done is disable the Intel integrated gpu via device manager, on the off chance I lose the monitor totally haha.

I've spent a few hours at this point trying to hack the software, alas, as it stands I've not found a work around.

Might just need to stream via VD or Alvr after all.

I've got the PT and the beta branches on in the hope I get something.

As it happens, link doesn't launch either. Oculus flashes black for about 2 seconds then drops back out on home; same gpu issue.

Think I'll just have to admit defeat in the short term or buy a new pc n stop using the laptop haha

Frustrating!
Edit: it’s not a USB issue, is it? With the 2 second flash thing?

There was a good guide at getting the Quest going wirelessly on this sub-forum, if you’re looking at trying that.

I ended up building a desktop a few years back when my laptop was really creaking with ED - I started by making an external GPU (GTX 750ti + power supply) for my laptop and ended up just using those bits to make an i5 based system. Everything’s been upgraded a few times since then, VR keeps on making me want better :D

Greetings commanders! o7
Just wondering, am I alone with a bit jerky positioning using Quest+Link? I have no performance issues (RTX2070s, vr low/high profiles, etc, Link cable 1.8Gbps throughput).
I have Rift CV1 - and positioning there just perfect, but with Quest+Link sometimes I have "microslides"/twitches (better noticeable on interface panels).
I was trying to improve lighting in my room, placing some contrast things to make Quest able to use it's insideout tracking more efficient - doesn't help. When I'm using Quest as a standalone device - I don't see any positioning issues.
Anyone? :)
Thanks!

I have something of the opposite experience. My CV1 sort of drifted a lot. This Quest 2 is quite a bit more study. I did notice some slides at first but it just sort of went away. Maybe it'll come back.

My room is sort of dark and dimly lit fwiw.

Due to 2020 being odd, I seem to have defacto moved to my partner's abode. I've set up a new PC here and she has a Quest. I am stuggleing to get it to work however.

I have followed the instructions on page 2, but must be doing something wrong. I get as far as seeing a white space with the grid floor and a window saying Elite Dangerous64 loading, with a very low res logo, but nothing then happens.

I also tried it via Stream VR but that was even less successful. Any ideas what I am missing?

Hi all, 'I have exactly the same issue as Saool" explained above when I try to start the game in VR (with the Quest 2) .
Because I have the Epic-version no start from steam library possible.

I hope there might be any support how to get rid of this problem.

Hi all,
I found a workaround for this issue.
When connecting Oculus Quest 2 wireless with "Virtual Desktop" instead of the cable with "Oculus link" everithing works fine.
... I just wanted you to know.
