Elite, Runtime 1.3 and your DK2

Yes, I'm running Win 10 and 1.3, and it's as smooth as butter. Gfx set to Ultra, except shadows on high, and 4xSMAA. This is with a GTX970 (OC) and a fairly old processor (i5-3570K, OC to 4.2). I'm very impressed. The only downside is the smearing, but I can certainly live with that for now.

Also been playing around with the Oculus Store, and the first impression is very good. After years of messing with extended mode, direct mode and all that stuff, it now just works. Seamlessly. Very, very cool.

Btw, I'm using a DK2 and an Xbox wireless controller.

oh wow. I'm off this week and about to upgrade to 10 and the new sdk. What i'm hearing is that its a massive difference, cant wait. Similar rig to you OC 970 but with OC i5 4690k to 4ghz

The performance is definitely there, but I have fps drops around starports. Thanks in advance for any tips (especially with the mirrored 2D image on the second monitor), maybe that´s the main problem?

Hi

Can I ask a basic question. Do you still get the 3D -> HMD (Headphones) option in graphics options? I don't seem to. I just have anlgryph and side by side. Without this I do not understand how to direct ED to the DK2? Previously I selected secondary monitor but as the OP says this is now not available as we have done away with extended mode. I have selected accept unknown sources in Oculus home. I had the same problem in 0.7 since the last ED patch. Any ideas please?

I switched on the DK2 before loading Elite. I was waiting for something to happen on screen in the pop up window but it was all displayed on the rift. I'm guessing 'Rift on' before loading makes the game decide what output to display it on.

Only tried once last night though

I don't know why, but I have terrible performance.
I have an AMD 7850. Before, with steamVr the game ran smooth in space with low settings, now I have judder no matter the situation.
I have tryed to set resolution to 640x480 to reach 75 hz, but when I restart ED I noticed it returns on 1280x720.
I have latest Crimson drivers and patch 1.3.

Similar to you 7870 2gb OC but I'm finding framedrop on entering a planets atmosphere and landing at the station.

Hoping that some optimisation might help.

but performance has decreased after patch instead of improve.
there is something wrong

Help! I've installed the 1.3 software, but Elite doesn't detect my DK2. It just displays on my monitor. What am I missing?

I have this issue and even after following all the advice (even 'accept unknown sources') - I can't get it to display. I'm now downloading it via the Oculus Home (using the free key) to see if that works.

Not sure if related, but I had to disable Eyefinity to get it working the first time. The only title I keep having to disable Eyefinity before launch with is Farlands.

I have a question - is the refresh rate of the DK2 still tied to the refresh of your main monitor ? I have to run a crazy low resolution on my monitor in order to get 70fps on the DK2 at the moment - it would be nice if that limitation is removed.

Answering my own question - yes, the DK2 is now in direct mode all the time, and the refresh rate isn't tied to the monitor refresh. So I can finally connect my PC up to the TV and run it at a reasonable resolution without impacting the performance on the DK2. Woo hoo !

FWIW I'm seeing great performance on a GTX970. The game has never looked better. I don't think I've ever experienced station interiors without some level of judder or dropping of frame rates, but now they are perfectly smooth.

1. Elite on DK2 now runs smoothest it's been ever. So much better than the SteamVR work around... which led me to stop playing for a bit. Even planets and planetary landings are now smooth.

2. There is Smear though... not sure how to get rid of it.

3. If only EDFX would work in Direct to HMD mode :(
