Elite: Universe - We need a new Elite

Personally, I like ED as a space game and would quite chuffed if FD used its not inconsiderable experience and skill to make a space sim that adheres to physics and realism as much a possible (meaning, there must be concessions so I don't die of old age while travelling to the nearest star). I wouldn't stop playing ED, I'd play both games as the mood take me, which I sure FD would be happy about (assuming others felt the same way).

On the assumption that ED actually needs "fixing" (which I don't necessarily agree with), I'd rather FDev fixed the game I already paid for instead of creating a different, "fixed", game for me to buy.

If I buy a BMW which turns out to be fundamentally flawed, you know what I do when BMW release an updated model which fixes those problems?
I buy an AUDI.

With regard to time dilation, this depends on how close the object is to the black hole and how massive the black hole is.

With SagA*, at 4.3 million solar masses, you would expect some dilation - 17% at 1AU (roughly 480ls). With stellar mass black holes (10-100 solar masses), I don't think the dilation effects would be sufficiently significant to notice, even at about 5ls from the event horizon. So the question for time dilation would be: Why bother? I mean, if a core mechanic of the game involved the player displacing themselves in time by orbiting SagA* at 5ls distance for a couple of days, then yeah, sure. But that doesn't sound like the rest of the game you describe. So why bother?

"We need new Elite" is probably assuming too much about the playerbase for the current game. I loved the original Elite, so when Frontier came out, I was all over it. But the "realistic" space combat was not fun for me, and fun seems to be a key requirement of a game. Certainly for me.

I guess someone has suggested it in this thread, but I suspect you're more after Kerbal Space Program++. A straight simulation is always going to be more niche than a game, so you may be searching for some time before you find what you requested in your post. Good luck though!

If this requires me to click through menus to make bars go up, I wouldn't play it. Too many survival mechanics for my taste and the only games where I do enjoy them is "The Long Dark (Sandbox)" and ADOM (which is a Rogue Like).

Same, the survival aspect lost its fun after 100 and 1 game about it. I`m all for sim like Elite universe but just make the survival aspect to the minimum.
