Engineering grandfathered modules

Has it already been explained whether we will be able to apply a new G5 modification to a grandfathered module already at G5? Or is it just as starting from vanilla?

When I converted some old g5s, it seemed to wipe the special. I must be mistaken because I don't see rivers of blood.

More like rivers of salt, and there are a few cropping up. :D

Anyway, I plan on re-engineering all of my modules to the new system. Don't want any silly unfair advantages or anything like that. ;) The tier 5 FSD range mod on my Vulture uses less power than stock, so it'll be a shame to lose that, but other than that I should make out just fine in the new system.

You keep a G4 level on that module and just need to roll G5 again. Tried it in the beta on a fully engineered dbx where everything was already G5. I got better results across the board in only a few rolls per module (56% fsd, 135% DD, 40% charge enhanced distro etc)

Ah, so. Since the new mods will be better it is actually good to get the modules now, G5 them (one roll) and polish them later. Laugh at the 1-4 mods requirements later. ;)

Yes, there are multiple topics on this. You can save yourself a lot of trouble buy doing even the worst G5 roll, as you can skip g1-g4 in the new system. You will need a g5 in the same mod type though,ie dirty drive for dirty drive. I spent the last few weeks engineering my entire fleet of 22 ships this way.

DEAR LORD!!! I'm cursing at four ships...

Has anyone else had a problem converting G5 modules? I tried engineering my G5 lightweight sensors and fast scanners, but the engineer said my module was not able to be converted because it was not upgraded enough to begin with. Anyone else?

There is nothing that forces anyone to change their mods, you can keep your old ones as is. Under the new system, legacies drop down one level and then you can mod away.

Not all the new mods are superior, legacy Dirty Drive rolls at this point top out at 135 opt. multiplier. I plan to keep my legacy modules for those.

Other mods offered slight improvements when converted. Just a duplication of work, having to re-work.

Just strip the parts and transfer them to the engineers. You'd have to travel to them one by one but this way you can use a larger versatile ship that can also fit the lower grade internals to upgrade a load of things in one go.

Does anyone know if its just g5s that get grandfathered to a lower grade or all. So if you have a g4 it gets converted to a g3 and so forth.

In my Python, with G3 DDT, a message told me the my G3 would be reverted to G2. I couldn't check to see if I had the mats to get back to G3 DDT, so I decided not to go ahead with the modding. :(

To be honest the way the new roles work by the vids as i dont have beta seem ok.

But the only thing i hate is you should keep you grading/rank with the engineers as it stands now.
So if you have an engineer lets say felicity. Unlocked to grade/rank 5 now. Under the new system you should have all of her modules open to the max grade /rank of what she has.
If say you have unlocked an engineer to say grade/rank 3 under the new system you have all of there modules up to that grade/rank unlocked.
If you haven't unlocked or ranked an engineer you start from scratch.

That way its not throwing away progress/time etc that you have already put into that engineer.

I just personally think that if you have already spent time and cost to rank an engineer to a certain level you should keep the progress.

Lets put our imagination cap on right now and say they for some reason have to revamp the naval rank system. And a part of that was to wipe everyones progression but you get to keep your ships you already have of them but if you want to start naval progression again your ships lose something. Until you rank to that point again.
Which in its most basic form is what they have done.

You lads convert if you like. Most i ever got on my drives was a %138 and folks have %142. If Fdev wants to ballance i applaud then and hope they do it right. Namely my making the new equal to the old.

Most if the people talking about how it will be unballanced are correct, but its quite funny considering i bet very few of them even pvp and could likely be ganked with G1 mods

According to Obsidian Ant's video covering the new engineering cow dung changes converting an existing g5 to the new system will convert it to a BASE g4 under the new rules. Basically if you want to convert your modules you better be ready with enough g4 mats to roll at least 3 times per module to get them to the new g5 AT ALL (totally seems fair, NOT). Enjoy!

As I've said i like the new set up. I just hate that they are screwing us over by making us rank the engineers from scratch with every module. Grandfarthering is there way of. Look at this hand while we do stuff with the other.

It would of been better off them letting everyone keep there rank progress with the engineers as is and no grandfarthering. If you have an old g5 it just get changed to the max new g5. Just go and pick your special as a freebie for your current g5. Or what ever grade you have.
