Enough of the NPC Aimbot railguns.

Tired of instantly losing SLF's in CZ's to those damn NPC's with their auto-aim rails. They should NOT be so accurate with them, even against something as small and hard to hit as an SLF.

Totally agree, they are even able to hit my Imp SLF with perfect accuracy and no amount of evasive flying will make them miss it seems.

Expected Crew Fighter Lifetime can be measured in seconds thanks to this aimbot nonsense. So many complaints of players dying as soon as they leave the hangar. And all I can tell them is to stay out of my gunner seat and just go to camera mode or something. Then they get bored and leave.

It is a bit ridiculous that they never miss. I worry that a change would go too far in the other direction and make things like rail Eagles useless at bringing down other small ships though.

Directional thrusters + boost = dodging NPC rail shots.

I can see AI SLF pilots having an issue with it, but it's really not too hard for a player.

Making AI stomp players is easy, the hard part is making AI just enough "stupid" so that it doesn't feel frustrating for the majority of the playerbase. Apart from the railbots the AI feels pretty good right now.

NPC Aimbot, arnt all NPC aimbot...anyways.. yeah, agree

When i use rail guns, there is a charge up time, so you have to stay on target. It seems like there is no charge up time for npcs, just a cool down timer. So when the cool down has cleared, they shoot as soon as they are on target.

If we had our rail guns charge all the time, then pressed a button when we wish to fire. That would make it too easy, to over powered, less skills needed. The amount of times i've lost my target while charging up a shot ><

if it was done correctly this means, if they started to charge up for a shot, and you got out of their target, they would miss...

I couldn't sleep last night wondering why this particular subject hadn't been highlighted for a few days! Phew!...& relax!

I'll give my opinion in the next related thread, early next week!

I'm not a fan of the aimbots AI.

I'm all for more difficult AI to fight, but aimbots are not the answer.

I suggested a few fixes for the AI regarding this.

1) Add jitter to NPC Railguns based on combat rank. 2° for harmless, and lowers down to 0° for Elite.

Or
2) during the railgun spinup time, add a "delay" to ship control based on rank.
So a harmless NPC would have a 0.5 second delay to tracking it's target.
Elite would be 0.0 seconds.

It doesn't sound much, but considering SLFs can move at 500~m/s, they could cover 250 meters in that time. :p

I'm certainly no railgun master, but I've had a lot more success with them by getting used to their timing and hitting the trigger when "I will be on target when the charge cycle completes" rather than "get on target, hit trigger, stay on target til it fires" and it seems to me that the NPC behavior is designed to mimic this. Certainly, if I have changed my ships vector during the charge time before they fire they seem to be much more likely to miss. On the other hand, if I maintain a constant vector for longer than a rails charge time they are very likely to nail me... This isn't instafiring, it's just that being computer programs they are VERY good at predicting the right moment to press the trigger so that the gun fires just as the reticle crosses the target.

A beam laser is a weapon that needs to stay on target. A rail gun does not: You just need to be on-target when they fire. There's a big difference. :)

And yes: computer are aimbots. By definition. Although given the limited ammunition, I don't fire rails unless I have an 80%+ chance of hitting, either.
