Erased from Open Play at CUBEO

Sorry for your loss Commander, I wish I could contribute to help you get back on your feet but I am out exploring. I mostly play in Open still, and use Mobius for those times I know I am likely to run into the type of player that plays only to wreck another players day. The one thing I learned about open is DTA (Don't Trust Anybody). If I even see another human player wanted outside of station space I immediately either leapfrog to the station (dropping out of supercruise periodically on my way to the station spending random amounts of time out of supercruise) or just jump to another system after dropping out of supercruise. The sad fact is you simply can't afford to give anybody even remotely suspicious the benefit of the doubt.

I consider myself an average, casual player. I liked the idea of interacting with real people. Sounded like fun. So, I've been playing in open play for over a month now, but no longer...

It all started when I was hanging around the Nav Marker in the Cubeo system in my fully outfitted Asp collecting bounties on NPCs. When I mistakenly fired on an NPC who I was trying to scan. This, of course gave me an immediate WANTED title. So for the galactic equivalent of a "fender bender", I'm WANTED.

So, I head for the station to buy a Sidewinder and clear my name. But before I can get to the station, I'm interdicted by a player in Fer de Lance. Now, I get interdicted all the time by NPCs and can almost always get out of it if I want to. But with this player interdiction, there was no escape. It did not mater where the escape vector was. My bar went down, and his went up unless mine was dead center.

After being pulled out of supercruise, I made a pass on him with my class 2 beam lasers and 4, class 1 multi-canons. I immediately realized that I was out of my league. So, I ran. I made it into supercruise with about 30% hull. I got my bearings and headed for the station to get repaired...Only to be immediately interdicted by the same Fer de Lance who proceeded to finish the job. No communication. I was freaking out and couldn't figure out how to text him anyway. So, blown to bits, I was.

All for a 400 credit bounty.

Okay, I have insurance. Cash flow hasn't been so great lately, so I had to take the loan. 800,000 credits or start over; not much of a choice there.

Time to play it safe and do some simple trade runs and get my cash back up and pay off the loan.

I made two runs.

But guess what. I was interdicted by a player wing in the same spot. Pirates, I suppose. This ended nearly the same as the encounter with the Fer de Lance. I had no way of escape. No communication. When I realized that I was about to die, I pulled my Asp to a complete stop and just sat there. They knocked me down to 1% hull, circled me a couple of times. Then, unceremoniously and figuratively put their weapon to my head and pulled the trigger.

All for 88 tones of food cubes.

--

Now, I'm in a Sidewinder, at the butt-end of inhabited space with my 1000 credits in a private game.

I'm not posting this to whine. I knew the risks. But I'm playing to have fun. Having my entire Elite career reduced to smoldering ruins in the coarse of 30 minutes is not my idea of fun.

My point for this post is basically to say that this type of play will drive most players from open play and these "career" players will be left to fight amongst themselves. And wont that be fun...for them.

i get it...you want to play ELITE EASY,not ELITE DANGEROUS......

Isn't this just another "I had no insurance" post really? As much as I feel for you there were so many things you could have done differently and possibly still been playing. Can't overly blame it on Open as much as your own inexperience. It will get easier.

It's a "I had no insurance" post combined with a "I had no idea how to use comms" post, all wrapped up in a "I'll blame everyone but myself" post.

Wanted in a Power's control system and you're surprised you got killed?

I mean, not to say they're not jerks, but cmon man what did you expect.

Then you chose to fly without insurance... immediately after... in the same system you JUST got killed in?

Solo sounds best for you tbh.

On a side note, there wouldn't be so many bored gankers camping PP control systems if PP didn't massively reward private group and solo over Open

OP, some advices:

Chat. Just press ENTER and type away, how hard is that?

Ok, try to do that in the current scenario:

-Interdicted (Trying madly to avoid interdiction and get away (Stick, throttle and pedals)

-Failed Evasion (Instantly shot at and now try madly to get away from THE MADMAN SHOOTING AT ME)

At what point, in ANY of the two situations would YOU get to the chat window, press enter and start to TYPE - IN THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT.

90% of player "interaction" I have had has been people INSTANTLY interdicting me AND shooting to kill. REGARDLESS of being wanted or not.

Hell, even IF I would be wanted they would earn MORE by asking me to dump a tonne of cargo which is worth MORE than my bounty.

Never played in solo , never had those problems you mentiond , its easy to avoid a wing of pirates.

First you made a error getting wanted then you want to expliot your way out of your bounty and then "whine" you get killed while easy avoidble. thats how it reads from here.

we need some kinda warp scramblers.

OP has taken the correct decision.
.
He can't watch his own fire, he is unable to scape interdictions, he can't manage to take evasive maneuvers, he flies without insurance, and he doesn't know how to use SC and Witchspace jumps to scape.
.
He is literally the last person who should click on the "Open" button. So yes, for his own sake, he MUST play in Solo mode. That way he'll enjoy the game much more.
So very much this. And you didn't even mention his second mistake - going for the Suicidewinder option for a 400 credit bounty that would have expired in a few minutes if he'd jumped to another system.

So many FDL interdictors nowdays... meh... they are the only ones interdicting me, they make life so boring!
OP you received many good suggestions by experienced players so I will only add my little one.

To evade a FDL (really? a FDL?) I just submit because FSD cooldown will be shorter, then I point my nose at that big armed ferrari and boost like hell 4 pips to engines, 2 pips to systems, By the time you'll pass by the bad guy, cooldown will finish and you will be far enough to engace SC without being mass locked. FDL is known to drift a lot and lack of agility. It works and it will also give you a time window to troll the psycho and make him feel even more bad muahahahahaha! *evil face*

of course if you get in trouble you can always jump to another syestem to avoid mass-lock.

you got the fun of enjoying doing a risky activity. maybe you thought it wouldn't happen to you but it did. that's what risk means, you simply miscalculated.

My point for this post is basically to say that this type of play will drive most players from open play and these "career" players will be left to fight amongst themselves. And wont that be fun...for them.

what do you mean by 'type of play'? shooting wanteds is perfectly legit and intended play. there is nothing wrong with it.

being interdicted as a trader and just blown to pieces is indeed nasty, but that can happen too. lots of little psychos out there, just as in real life.

you just had a bad day, but learned (the hard way) some valuable lessons. like how to avoid being interdicted in the first place, or to avoid populated systems in a defenseless ship, or knowing when a risk is ok to take (your first experience) or definitely not worth it (your second). trading in an uninsured ship is possibly the greatest risk you can take in this game. it's actually well in the 'foolish' part of the scale.

but there's nice people out there too. if you change yout mind message me if you see me online and i will gladly drop you some tons of whatever to help you out, and even escort you for a while. however, there is still risk we both get blown to pieces! :D

fly insured, have fun!

Shoots a cop, doesn't know the bounty expires in minutes, doesn't evade FDL in SC, doesn't know how comma work, doesn't know about high-wake, ignores insurance, loses everything.

Blames it on other people.
