Boris Johnson urges Obama not to intervene in EU debate

Boris Johnson has said it would be "outrageous hypocrisy" for US President Barack Obama to intervene directly in the EU referendum debate.

Mr Obama, who wants the UK to stay in the EU, is expected to visit the UK for the last time as President next month.

The London mayor wrote that it would be "wholly fallacious" of Mr Obama to use any trip to warn that the UK will lose global influence if it quits the EU.

Mr Johnson is campaigning to leave the EU ahead of the vote on 23 June.

Downing Street has refused to comment on reports that the US president will argue for the UK's continued EU membership during his reported visit, when he would be expected to hold talks with David Cameron - who is leading the campaign to stay in the EU.

Nothing fallacious about it frankly.

Boris may not like it. He may even see it as outrageous, preposterous, unacceptable, paternalistic, arrogant.

But it certainly isn't fallacious.

Bit worry that Boris doesn't seem to know that.

Or perhaps it isn't. [praise]

But it would be fallacious of Dave to encourage Mr Obama to make such statements. At the same time; Dave has been making up the rules, as he goes along.

Personally my backside is firmly wedged on the fence over this one.

in one respect I want out and do our own thing, however I know how the Tories are already kicking the poor and the disabled constantly and if we left, they could pretty much get rid of human rights overnight and make things even worse than they already are.

There may be all sorts of reasons why DC shouldn't be encouraging Obama to comment, but what fallacy is involved?

Yup. The EU is undemocratic and frequently corrupt, but nothing I've seen put forward by the 'out' camp seems to offer more in the way of democracy, or less in the way of corruption. Instead, most of them seem to want some sort of 'return' to a mythical 1950s, where Britain was still Great (in their imaginations), and where Johnny Foreigner knew his place. One might as well vote for a return to Narnia...

Senator palpatine wont be keen on this one bit.
But a United Europe has been in the making since the early 50's. First with the heavy industries treaty. An early form of a free trade union and later with the European market in the 70's.
We have been on course for a United Europe all this time. I will be stunned if we actually leave.
