Standard ETS2 before I added promods, a few bits of workshop mods and some DLC...and yes, it's almost parked. I can park a real one a lot straighter in the bay [haha]

Bought it too on Sale and it is surprisingly fun especially in VR.

Just bought my first truck yesterday, and can't wait to get home and haul some goods and make some money so I can upgrade my truck :)

And no worries about getting shot to pieces over stuff I got in the cargo :)

I'm driving around in Scandinavia with base in Aalborg :)

WOW! Driving in the wet is scary! Any harsh stearing/breaking = interesting!!!

Question: Is there as good way to find dealers other than just doing random jobs? Eg: I want to buy a Volvo as my first truck? So I assume I need to find a Volvo dealer first?

Play in VR? Ever grasp air reaching for the steering wheel? [yesnod]
I caught myself doing that more than once this last weekend.

My main problem with VR is an intermittent lag/surge issue. I have a strong system, but this happens even on the lowest graphics settings. I can play through it, but it is annoying (though not as annoying as the constant speed limit changes and the instant speeding fines).

I played ATS several days w/o a crash, and on my first job with my new truck, a delivery truck turns right into me like I wasn't there. Then I saw a live crash last night between two trucks pulling into a rest stop (pretty far ahead of me). Apparently one was stopped and the other plowed into him, causing his trailer to tumble into the air and the cab to spin off into the brush.

I'm really enjoying ATS, but I think I'll be ready to start exploring ETS2 by next weekend. ATS really needs to start rolling out the states a lot faster.

I also had som judder/lags and it seems to happen when Oculus Rift ASW kicked in, which it often did. Then I just cranked the SS or Scale which it was called in game, up to 200% which made the ASW being on all the time. Then there is no judder and the image much clearer.

Well that would be an interesting solution - increasing the graphics to get rid of a problem! I'll give it a go. :)

Interesting... By default it runs the 32bit version.

You can make it run the 64bit version, and there seems to be options to choose DirectX or Open3gl

I run the game @64bit, not really for any reason other than I have 64bit, so why not..;)

Also find a nice physics mod like 'advance physics' by techkilla, its a nice mod. Others would be 'Sisl', '50k', 'realistic building lights', 'gates'... Well there are so many, just have a good look and mess around with them, you'll find what suits your game.

Main thing to remember, as with any pc game that gets updated often, some mods may/will stop working. Most good mods however are also updated quite often.

If you want scary, get a taglift chassis, forget to drop the axle when you take on a heavy load, and then brake hard going downhill. Jackknife!!

If I remember rightly, there is an option to select your 'favourite truck' when you first create a new driver, and you should then have the relevant dealer shown on the map. Otherwise you'll need to find one: there is probably a map online somewhere, but if you tell me where you are, I can tell you where the nearest Volvo dealer is.

I think the fact I have no idea what you're talking about is scary enough for me?

Taglist chassis?

Dropping axles?

Many modern articulated three-axle trucks have the option to raise one set of wheels from the road while driving with no trailer, or with a light load - it reduces tyre wear, and can help manoeuvrability. A taglift chassis is one where the rear axle lifts. See the picture of the '6x2 Rear-lift' truck here:

Quite the informative post there, an interesting read.
It's thanks to ETS2 (and before that, ETS, and before that, UKTS) that I knew quite a lot of that stuff already :D.

Might go trucking later. Gonna take the Beluga out for a spin first though :D.

The Rift stopped working with ATS today. So I tried it with ETS2 and it didn't work there either. So I started my ETS2 career with Track IR, which feels totally unnatural.

I guess ETS2 is looking a little more generic than ATS, but I'm liking the different trucks and loads. I do feel I'm speeding everywhere even when I'm going below the speed limit. I'm not sure if it's some scaling issue or narrower roads or maybe it's just not being in VR.

It will be nice when we finally get World Truck Simulator. :)

On the subject of TractIR and ETS2...

Anyone else notice if you're looking ahead, and then look up or down, the engine noise gets louder for some odd reason? A little bit annoying TBH! You can increase the engine volume a bit just by looking a bit more up/down.

Yes, it's quite noticeable. Also engines seem pretty quiet in general compared to ATS, and I don't hear cars zipping by.

After about 5 more runs things are feeling more natural. But 50km/h in cities still feels very fast, while the same speed in ATS feels like you are crawling. And the cars in ETS2 feel like they are going twice as fast as me. But I prefer driving slower and in control, especially when it's raining, as it feels more true to life - not bounding down the road at high speed.

I bought it yesterday in the Steam Sales.

Oh my god this game is beautiful! I cannot get over how well made it is!

Within minutes I bought a ship-load of DLC for it. Don't regret it. Awesome game.

Highly recommend getting it before July 4th. [yesnod]

Yup. I remember the first time I tried the demo (after a friend kept coaxing me to try it). I kept saying "what's so fun about driving a truck on long trips? IT'S BORING!" but he kept telling me to try it, try it! There's a Demo! Delete it if you really don't like it!

So after I loaded the demo up, I was still in the "yeah this is gonna be a boring game" mentality. So I took my first job. Had mouse steering configured. Used W and S keys to accelerate and decelerate. Cleared the first job, took a second, then a 3rd. etc. By the end of about 1 or 1.5 hours, I'd already gone back to Steam and bought it plus a few DLCs. It probably helped that TrackIR worked flawlessly without even requiring me to set up a special profile for it - the default bog-standard profile worked perfectly.

That was back in 2013 or maybe 2014. Since then I had purchased a Logitech driving wheel JUST FOR THE GAME. I don't even use the wheel for other racing games (like Grid or whatever - I use a gamepad for those).

EDIT - I should add that the game "scales" to your skills... it starts out easy, probably why it drew me in... as I slowly learnt how to play it, I could turn more and more realism options on. So you don't really crash-and-burn like how Elite does (remember the first time you tried to dock with a Coriolis in 1984? :D ) I've now got the game on medium-ish kind of realism settings... my shifter is still automatic (the "realistic automatic" option, I believe), cuz my driving wheel shifter is only sequential, not really suited to jump gears. And I still can't park trailers well yet, so I leave that option on to ask me if I wanted autopark (docking computer!) when I reach the destination. I'll get around to learning how to park long trailers - eventually!

I recently updated the traffic with some Traffic A.I. DLC/Workshop MOD and wish I had done it sooner. I went to the Workshop page > AI and just picked the most popular one.

Traffic acts much better now, it feels more like real traffic and changes throughout the day but it's generally heavier. You get banked up at some stop signs too, but the wait feels more authentic. I don't know why I didn't apply any of these before - previously I have just added cosmetic stuff.

Are there other mods you guys use, apart from the cosmetic stuff?
