Everspace 2

Rockfish games is running a kickstarter and the guy could usually use some extra support:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockfishgames/everspace-2

They said on a live stream, they plan to do Everspace 2, even if the KS campaign fails. But they prefer the campaign to succeed and use the extra funds to include a lot of backer ideas.
They actually answered nearly all viewers questions on the live stream and seem to know, how community engagement works.

Woot! Everspace 2 made it's kickstarter goal! It was getting made anyway, but this allows them to expand their scope. Looking forward to getting my copy of the convention demo. 🐱

This game actually makes me fight really hard with myself. I usually make it a rule to not purchase any EA titles but I dont know if I can wait any longer.....pretty much everything about this hits my taste buds 1:1 which is surprising considering how much of a let-down the first part was (roguelike isnt for me).

Any of you have it and can comment on stability, performance and bugs?

edit: well I put it on my wishlist so gonna keep an eye on it anyway

I haven't played the first one. I book it for some reason under MMO.

I actually bought the first one on steam on a sale hearing only good things about it. Footage showed a very good looking fast paced action game and the price tag didnt justify "digging and research" so I grabbed it. Refunded it before my 2 hour trial ran out tho. The roguelike elements really didnt sit well with me and while I never argued with people who liked it about it I simply accepted its not for me and moved on. Havent watched the second part after its announcement because I assumed it would continue building on its roguelike nature and only by accident learned that the devs are moving away from it to a formula thats right up my alley (open world - RPG - progression based). Trailers are hype material at best and its rather "expensive" for an early access title which isnt AAA material so I m still holding back.

I just wonder how far along it is and about some of its details which might be critical in trapping me or making me lose interest

I'm not sure what roguelike is. It's so overused like RPG. For me a roguelike is game with replayable map (random gen e.g.), mixed setting (races, towns, places, names jumbled ever game). It has player progression (skill tree, perks, whathaveyou), and loot pression. It also is expected to play in 2D.
Whih Everspace isnt.

I no! Everquest! That's the MMO. Not Everspace. Could easily be same franchise though with the name.

'Roguelike' has been completely taken over and out of context that these days it simply means optional permadeath, some random level/loot generation, and likely some metaprogression between runs. You're talking about FTL, Risk of Rain, Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, Children of Morta, Immortal Redneck, Everspace... That sort of stuff. These are also often labeled "roguelites" which I prefer since it's a different term.

It has precious little to do with actual roguelikes old and new such as Nethack, Angband, ToME, Caves of Qud, Dwarf Fortress (adventure mode), Sword of the Stars: The Pit, Dungeons of Dredmor or Tangledeep.

Binding of Isaac and FTL are so different games it's doing no good summing them up under the same genre tag.
Yeah, I like these procgenned approaches, but also more actual "roguelikeness".

Rogue-like means it has random proc gen at each game start, perma death for your character, and ways to either loot your previous character corpse or to get that progression of sorts after each death. That's it, Rogue itself was a simple game, there was not much more to it apart from some RPG elements (character attributes, inventory and such).. The Rogue-lite approach lifts a bit of the harshness of pure Rogue kind of games by allowing you to keep most of your character progression.

Is it as boring as the first one?

Out of hundreds of games collected in steam, the original everspace was the first one i genuinely got annoyed at for buying... the story was pointless, and then because you knew you were guaranteed to die and need to restart, it made every moment playing it seem pointless too.

The second one isnt a roguelike anymore but has an open world and runs more like a RPG in space with space ships.

Just played through the recently made available demo, and it's pretty awesome!

Basically mixing most pleasing parts of Everspace 1 and Rogue Galaxy Outlaws together. It's gorgeous, it's fluid (both from framerate and gameplay standpoints), story hooks well enough, there's a perfect sense of scale, freedom and seamless even if it's clearly not.

I'll probably buy it once close to final release.

I recently discovered that I purchased Everspace 1 but never did much with it. Now I have returned to the game and I am really enjoying it. It is one of those games that clearly was a labor of love. Naturally, I am excited about Everspace 2. If people don't know, you can download a demo. I gave it a quick spin and really like what I see, especially the vanity camera (like the original).

I understand this one is going to have landable planets. I haven't tried to land on a planet yet in the demo (if that is possible), but for you early access backers, how are the planets? Can you go anywhere or is it just specific areas?
