That escalated quickly...(...) one of the guards was brusque, words were had, tempers flared, weapons were drawn, etc. Massacred every inhabitant, pinched everything not nailed down and helped myself to their power regulator for good measure...

- Knowledge of new engineer: 15 Settlement Defense Plans. (These are extremely rare, found on command, security, and crashed skimmer data terminals The crashed skimmers can sometimes be found at irregular marker sites, which can be relog spammed. This took me four hours.)
Innovative but definitely not faster than just going to an IMSettlement Defense Plans can be a mission target. I have found a mission that required me to go download it from a settlement and bring it back. That guaranteed the drop, so I did collect it before abandoning the mission to keep the data.
Only ever saw that once though, but it's worth reading the mission descriptions, not just the material reward!
Well, I'm not farming these yet, I'm on Opinion Polls duty right now, but when I saw that one pop up, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Should FD properly reduce the requirements from 15 to 5, that's already a fifth done on the cheap! (now if they could reduce Opinion Polls requirements from 40 to 20...)Innovative but definitely not faster than just going to an IM![]()
They need to do this. It'll be too late for me though. I'm at 22+ ish OPs now. It's coming "naturally" still (i.e. just blasting every single habitat data port I see as I farm mats in general or do missions). It'll be the last thing I "need" though. I've got everything already for Oden, despite starting that collection a full week later due to the 6 heists issue.Well, I'm not farming these yet, I'm on Opinion Polls duty right now, but when I saw that one pop up, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Helpful post. Would read again.Everything you need to know:
Better Suits and Weapons are only really needed to help you grind materials, grinding materials is only needed to unlock upgrades and engineers, unlocking upgrades and engineers is only needed to get better Suits and Weapons ... loop until bored or you reach level 5 on everything and become a god of the universe ( maybe it will unlock Raxxla, maybe it will enable you to control your own swarm of Thargoids, maybe it will unlock that free Anaconda at Hutton Orbital or maybe, just maybe, nothing at all will happen - you know, like when you reached Federal Admiral, Empire King & Triple Elite - massive fanfare and free plaque for your wall ? no ? )
I sold exactly 20 genetic research and it worked. First go to your ship (sometimes triggers the message) then relog (always does trigger it, if target met, bugs notwithstanding). With unlocking Oden, do you need to sell at least 1 of each? Because according to my logs, I have sold 17 genetic research an 12 biological samples, which is way more than 20, but I haven't sold any employee genetic data. He's still not unlocked. So I'm not sure what else could be wrong. I wish they had a count you can see like for ship engineers.
The description says total, or is it actually 20 of each?
I never saw employee ones either.
Worst part of it is there's no way of tracking progress for these things.
Just curious about updating these mats in real time on Inara - how exactly? I am not sure how it's meant.Even Inara isn't yet able to update these mats in real time. It's.... a pain.

I never saw employee ones either. And maybe the biological samples are bugged. But I didn't bother selling the few biological samples I found. I reasoned that would just complicate it.
Actually, scratch that. I do have one. Makes sense it's sec data though. They're the least common I think, besides extraction and industrial.I just picked up another Employee Genetic Data, um, data. It was at the security data port in an industrial settlement. Go figure.
I have them from Lab and Medical Ports too - most from Labs. Still 'not common'Actually, scratch that. I do have one. Makes sense it's sec data though. They're the least common I think, besides extraction and industrial.
I got worried about selling a few at a time, so I just collected 20 genetic research and sold them all at once and it worked. So he's unlocked. yay. Now I'm worried the opinion polls I sold won't count.Helpful post. Would read again.

If that doesn't work, try selling 3 more genetic research. They're commonly available as mission rewards so shouldn't take long.

The whole data and unlock process is really messy right now but it does work, sort of. Worst part of it is there's no way of tracking progress for these things.
These buildings are in Research Settlements which as a type can be found using the POI menu from the system map, try in High Tech systems. They often have Research or Biological in the name too if you want to use external tools. You can spend a few happy hours in the Med bay trying to get the local guards to lie still for a photoshoot on the 3 adjacent sick beds in the larger sites, who said the grind can't be fun? Or maybe that's just me.I’m still trying to find out which settlement types have labs or med buildings, can anybody point me in the right direction please.
