Wait, what? That's nuts!

So much for the deterrent effect.

wow.... thanks for the info.

This seems a bit of a logical fail on the insurance part.... My car insurance will bork at paying out at the slightest opportunity, it seems strange that in a 1000 years time they are happy to pay out even if due to your part in a criminal act and being bought to justice :/

Not to mention the pilots federation not wanting "you" (I do not mean you directly) to pay off some of the fines yourself.
I agree, it's pretty bad there's barely any penalty for murder or carrying a bounty in general.

On the other hand, with pp FD added whole new reasons to kill "innocent" ships. A harsh punishment there would be contradictory.

Also non lethal piracy is next to impossible, even ignoring the only tiny amount of cargo you get from them, if a player knows what to do, they can completely negate limpets. Seriously, there's some many ways to be completely immune to limpets, it's not even worth carrying them unless you intend to do npc piracy.

The whole system is terribly balanced all around. It's not even a slap on the wrist when you do kill someone and put a dent in their finances, but you're also forced or encouraged to, in some cases. The crime system needs a complete overhaul imo.

Well yesterday I was in Zachary Hudsons HQ (Cant remember the name now) and I got interdicted by a Python who was alleged to A Lavingly-Duval. Then another one turned up and they just started shooting at me and killing me, I ended up dying. So That was 315,000 out of the bag, Ok disaster so I went back there and guess what they did they exact same thing to me AGAIN. Never trust anyone!! So don't think I will be going back there any time soon.

When I play in open of late if I even see another commander on the radar I:

A. leapfrog my way to the station by doing periodic drops from supercruise (running a random amount of time in normal space at full throttle) or
B. drop to supercruise immediately and jump to a different system.

You are right in open the only way to be "safeish" anymore is DTA (Don't Trust Anybody), it just simply is too much of a risk and THAT is sad as I used to like trying to chat up Cmdr's I met on the way to a station. You would still occasionally meet people only interested in turning your ship into swiss cheese but it was a lot less frequent than it is these days.

This is a post worthy of rep and one I definitely feel the same way about.....crime system just needs to be redone as the bounty mechanic for PvP just simply doesn't work.

Why didn't you hyperspace jump to another star system when they opened fire?

Well i was dead in about 20 seconds anyway and they were so close to me my fsd was taking 10 mins to load up.

FSD charge is slowed by nearby ships only if you try to go to supercruise. If you initiate a hyperspace jump to another star system the FSD charge will take 15 seconds as normal (no inhibition due to nearby ships). So you had 5 seconds to spare :).

Hi everyone. My name is Guidebot and I'm an evil cmdr.

I was out in my Diamondback Scout in a HIRES when I saw a player Vulture on the scanner. Before I knew what I was doing I was tailing him and stealing his kills at the last second. Then he lost shields in a fight with a clipper, so I rammed his Vulture pretty hard. He charged supercruise and left... but I followed him. And interdicted him. Twice. And destroyed him.

I don't know why I do these things but from time to time I just murder people.

Does anyone else randomly perform inexplicable acts of evil?

Good for you.

Play the game how ever you want.

Hi OP This is an interesting thread. I notice that you place a moral color to our gaming actions. That is you are puzzled by your 'naughty' behaviour. Don't be. All animal predators seek out the the very young, very old or wounded to eat. Especially wounded. The big cats, crocodiles, wolves, its easier that way, the young fit adults in their prime are just too damn exhausting to catch. Far from being noble beasts they are lazy opportunists. I'd say popping in at the last moment to take other players kills was lazy opportunism, not a random act. But I wouldn't be outraged or describe it as morally 'bad'. Its just kind of ordinary and normal. Our ancestors had a well developed predator brain, and I mean ancestors that go waay back. They were reptiles. Its still there, that reptilian brain, at the top of the spinal column along with the hippocampus, its just overlain with other more 'fluffy' stuff. Thanks for the heads up OP. I look forward to meeting you in a High Res. I am mostly in a purple Vulture, occasionally an FDL.
