Evochron Legacy: Is it worth it?

Evochron has the best flight system. The problem I have with it is that it's designed in such a way as to make it so you don't have to fly. Point your ship in the right orientation, hit the Jump button, and hey presto, you're in the docking bay of a distant station, or you're straight into the path of the jump gate. And the missions aren't much better. "Deliver fuel to this stranded ship" which is in plain view from the station. Point toward it, fly 10 seconds, mission done. Without any orbital mechanics and drift, it's way too simple.

It would be great if Vice made it so that you can't jump straight into a station or gate -- instead to some random point otherwise nearby, so you actually have to fly the darn ship. There's valid reasoning for it, too: Traffic safety. Surely having ships warp right into a docking bay should seem far too hazardous. I really should suggest this on the forum. There has been another instance of something I suggested going into the game (though I can't remember what now -- something about the new HUD I think, as I was doing some mods to that and to other graphical elements). While such a thing would make it take longer to complete missions and advance, it's a trade-off worth having as you'd actually have to fly your ship for once (other than when you dock with a ground station).

Wow the graphics of the SE version look pretty good to me (Then again I started PC gaming during the CGA era lol). Going to have to buy this to check it out - mind blowing that it's basically just one guy creating it.

Think I'm gonna have to give this one a look as a potential replacement!

How's the planet surfaces? Do we have any steep cliffs and valleys like Achelous 8 A or similar?

No actually (Steep cliffs).
Game is awesome and very impressive achievement for a one man. And it has lots of things I wish ED had. But it is in a completely different league compared to ED.
