Exobiology is broken (payouts/rank)

While the new payouts are nice, it's too much. It should at least be half of what it is now. This is silly money for doing essentially not much and risk free.
But what's broken are the Exobiology rankings. The progress to rank up is using the old values. So you can hand in scans from 2-3 bios and jump up 2 ranks straight away.
Possible to even rank up to Elite in one day if you were so inclined.
Frontier need to rebalance the rankings in accordance with the new payouts and those of us who have ranked up so quickly, need to be put back to where we would be with the new ranking balance in place. So basically taking into account every bio scanned since Update 14.
The ranking up now is just ridiculously out of whack.

Hi Rusty.

Vehemently disagree about the payout amounts. Finally exobiology - and I do a lot of that - pays a suitable amount given the amount of time one can spend on just one planet.

For example, I spent an hour this morning on one planet to get four out of four species fully sampled. I've observed your good self spending quite a bit of time hunting for that final sample on the planet :)

Agree on rebalancing the rankings though.

Finally, there's already a thread about this here : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/holy-moly-at-the-exobio-pay-increase.611019/

Regards o7

Genar.

It's not even working as intended, the visual display payout is false Rusty, take a look at these topics.

tldr if you dont want to read the entire thing: first discovery bonus despite saying its x5 on the sales display is still only the prior x2, the base pay has increased properly however so only 50% of the pay buff is working correctly. HOWEVER the Journal still logs it as receiving the 5x bonus and so does the rank but you don't physically receive that x5 first discovery bonus in credits you can use.

Right now, I have a choice. I can rid a settlement of around 9 scavengers for around 286,000CR, or I can scan 3 samples of Stratum Tectonicas for 16.7mCR. Hmmmm.....
Spent 2 hours yesterday and got 81mCR (and jumped 3 exobiology ranks. If you have billions in the bank this might seem worthwhile. As a newbie player, you'd just have to earn 150,000CR to buy an Artemis suit and get going, this is a cash cow that's pretty ridiculous imo.
Payouts shouldn't relate to time spent or how boring a task is.
I used a 3rd party tool to show me 10 systems with good Exo payouts. Had I scanned them all I'd have 750 million CR. I could do this from day 1 in Elite. Spend a few days on those 10 systems and be close to a billiionaire in my first week in the game.
I'm sticking to my opinion that it needs a re-balanace.
To those with billions in the bank it might explain the different viewpoint.
For me with my 2nd account, I had 25 million 2 days ago. A few hours later I'm sitting on 171 million CR and I've not done much.
I wonder how many on-foot settlement missions I'd need to do to earn 150million CR.

I think they should.

Using a 3rd party tool which lists the most profitable systems, is giving false data, because, well, you already know where to go. Whereas if like me you're out in the void going to random star systems, you don't know which ones will end up being profitable and which ones end up not being such.

Completely disagree with your PoV here.

Its finally a worthwhile activity and people call it broken. What the heck is wrong with you all? Im glad it finally pays for all the searching and flying around you have to do only to find 1 bacteria on the entire planet that was 100k LS away. And those bacteria are usually so spread that you have to waste 20 minutes on that planet alone while paying the lowest amount of credits.

It was just exo bio's turn. The original 3 ranks got devalued. Then it was made into a bigger joke with "prestige" ranks not counting previous progress. Now exobio progress is a farce. This was called "content", are you not enjoying your "content"? :ROFLMAO:

Why should it be broken?
Finally Exobiology generates a fair income.

The effort to get the neccessary samples is one of the highest in the game (in terms of invested time and required skills). I think the most agree, that exobiology is way more effort than shipping goods from a to b to a. And we all know, that trading has ever been one of the #1 ways to become a billionaire.

It's always been a worthwhile activity, imo. I can't speak for other explores but I don't do it for credits or rank (although nice to haves) but its a bit of a kick in the teeth when everyone can jump on the band wagon and get billions and top rank in a week or so and once they have achieved the highest rank and billions of credits they'll complain it's boring and move on to something else.

Isn't it allways like that?

I also don't fly out into the dark for the money but for the adventure. And now I don't have to come back to have a trade intermezzo to pay the bills.

I've been doing exobiology since it came into being, and before the payout buff reached Elite 3 due to a combination of that and the usual system scanning.

I for one do not object to players getting to that and beyond a bit quicker. I don't have a crabs-in-a-bucket mentality.

I find this a completely alien and puzzling PoV, TBH.
You're just being argumentative now. It's fine to hold a different opinion but I think you're making a drama out of it.
Stacking shelves in a supermarket is boring so should it pay more than an exciting job? Boring is subjective too. Payouts should never equate to that, it makes no sense at all.
If you think FDev nailed the payouts, good for you. I don't because it's out of whack with other activities on foot. You are free to disagree all you want but I feel you're doing so from the POV of someone with billions in your account already so 9 or 12 or 16 million is a drop in the ocean.
I am using a 2nd account now and working my way up. Although the new payouts are nice, it is just a fast track to all the ships and modules and I think that goes against the grain of Elite Dangerous.

Credits is the last reason why I go out exploring.

If you read my post properly, you will see that the part I referred to as broken were the rankings as they are still based on the old bio values.

The 'broken' part was about the rankings, not the payouts.
For some it's all about the money so they don't mind getting ridiculous payouts for menial tasks. That's not me. I'd rather get a few millions for covertly uploading a virus to a settlement than scanning a plant.

and get billions and top rank in a week
Ranks lost all value with odyssey when they introduced higher than Elite ranks without counting in all the hundreds or even thousands of hours people spent AFTER hitting triple Elite in Horizons. They are just completely inaccurate since someone with less playtime or "work" can have a higher Rank than someone who played way into triple Elite in Horizons but not in Odyssey.

Ranks aint worth a penny until that is adressed wich will never happen.

I feel it cheapens the Elite rank... I was happy about the credit give away in the tritium hauling CG but thought going from Elite to Elite V in just a few days was meh... At least my triple elite was earned, maybe not in the hardest of ways but it did take me thousands of playing hours...
