Expedition II: Operation "Persera"

Day 20 - 09:08:54:49 in Supercruise

I am slowly approaching the limit of my ship technical abilities. Have I missed something important.. of course I must have.. "Rocinante" is not a perfect build to reach the unreachable, still she took me so far. Am I going to do it again.. yes, but not soon. It is more than clear, somebody will do it.. and somebody will beat this rekord, what would life mean without a challenge?
Last night I talked to Cmdr Persera again. It was very helpful, but then something went wrong with her SRV and she disconnected the comms.. I am worried, but I strongly believe, she is fine..

If you ask me how I feel now, I feel accomplished.. I've been traveling in supercruise for more than 224 hours and just crossed the magical limit of 65,700LY away from Sol.. and I am still flying

...or maybe I am just losing my mind, am I?

and BTW, here is the indication of the fuel needed for my "jump back to safety".. that's how I am about to judge when to stop cruising.. ;)

"... just crossed the magical limit of 65,700LY away from Sol.. and I am still flying ..."

Wow - respect [yesnod]

Don't forget to watch the secondary tank in case it empties and refills just at the wrong time ... ;)

Day 22 - 10:09:20:41 in Supercruise.. and down to speed "zero"

I dozed off.. I think I had a dream.. I was arguing with Lori about some stupid module, that she was constantly testing using some strange tool.. which was beeping and beeping and beeping like crazy.. and then, I just opened my eyes.. everything seemed to be fine.. except of the small blinking red lamp and a beeping noise.. computer repeating "Fuel critical! Abort.. Fuel critical! Abort".
I checked the gauge.. it was not good, checked my calculation with few fast keyboard strokes.. 4,52t remaining..
Am I doomed!?
In a split second I pulled the throttle towards myself.. sinister decreasing sound of the engine caused my body tremors.. "Rocinante" quite quickly slowed down to the lowest possible cruising speed.. ready to disengage. I hit the button.. in a matter of seconds the ship started to float engine-less with its own inertia.. just floating..

"Power off, power off quickly.. " - I nervously flipped the switch.. the bridge got completely dark
"Calm down you idiot" - I said to myself - "There is only one way to figure all of this out: to flip the ship and to check the FSD parameters while heading my rescue destination.."

Navigation panel - the coordinates of Oevasy RG-Y D0 are already in.
I pulled the stick slowly to engage only rotational thrusters.. the ship began to flip around majestically.. long moments, seconds, minutes.. now, I am facing the target..

I pushed a couple of buttons responsible for the FSD preheat and control.. green feedback light...... unbelievable.. the computer determined that I can still jump..

I nodded slowly.. "You have more luck than wisdom my Precious.." - I thought and then I passed out of exhaustion..

Day 22 - The Same Old Sun

I must have slept at least for few hours.. The ship was not even floating anymore.. I looked around slowly. The bridge was still dark. I turned on emergency power and started checking system stats.. And then I slowly realized what actually happened.
After 249 hours of supercruising, I crossed the distance of 58.3Ly beyond Semotus Beacon.. I aimed my navigation system at Sol system.. the numbers displayed in front of me made me smile slowly.. 65,705Ly

Sixty five damn thousands and seven hundred five light years from The Old Sun!!!

Main power off, I am staying for a while.. let me just live that moment (and maybe have another nap)

CMDR Deluvian was kind enough to let me wing with him so that I could witness his achievement.

I've been in the area since the rescue, so it was a short hop back to Ishum's Reach.

And here he is, furthest anyone's ever been:

Congratulations!

- Hey, are you there? Having another nap? - Persera.. that was her
- Almost.. I am exhausted, actually I switched off my instruments - I answered
Few glitches on the comms..
- There you are! Congratulations! 58.3Ly from here.. and I am just a few Ls from the primary star
- Thank you.. for everything - I said

Holy Moley ... o7
You realise you have now consigned some other lunatic to try to beat that ...

What would life be worth without a challenge? ;)

Of course it is "beatable" as "Rocinante" was not fully optimized.. I rushed like an idiot to rescue Cmdr Persera.. but then I realized how the story progressed.. The Magnificent Fuel Rats and so on and so on..
I changed my build in Colonia and just continued towards the farthest corner of the Galaxy.

And you are so right.. somebody must be a "lunatic".. and so am I :D

P.S. If nobody does that.. I will, but not soon

Day 22 - I'm safe again..

The roar of the charging FSD was something I missed so much.. with this though, not very pleasant multiple pops in my ears, not used to such pressure changes after all those hours of steadiness.. Entire universe took a crazy spin and splashed a million stars straight into my face. "Rocinante" is groaning with pleasure .. the hull is rumbling in the rhythm of the engine pulse.. the stick and the throttle are trembling under my palms.. And finally a big bang like a thunder.. Oevasy RG-Y D0 entry point.. wonderful G-Class white-yellow star straight into my face.. The view I so hoped to see again.. I am safe..

Day 23 - Back to the world

That was a really quick run, but I did not use the plotter. I really recommend manual navigation, it is fun and allows jump on fumes.. I really squeezed everything out of Rocinante's FSD.. The expedition is not yet finished, I need to get back to Shinrarta Dezhra and report to Lori.. for now though.. Colonia..

I docked for the first time at Dove Enigma.. it's a privilege..

Day 25 - Expedition Summary

The Goal
Original goal of the expedition was to rescue Commander Persera. When I read her post.. what she attempted to do, at least partially influenced by my story from October last year, it appeared to me as the only one right way of doing things.. there was no doubt, that it was me who was supposed to rescue her.. Well I was "disconnected" from the news for some time.. so her news struck me pretty hard.. I did not think anybody would be crazy enough to attempt what I did..
Embarrasing enough, I did not even read entire thread before I deployed from Shinrartha Dezhra.. I was already on my way, when I realized how Fuel Rats were close to the actual rescue.. I was trying to strip my ship from unneccessary equipment, but then I realized that stations on the way to Colonia do not provide outfitting function at all.. (at least all of those I checked)
When I reached Colonia.. I said "What a heck.. she beat my tiny rekord just by few light years".. I could fit fuel tanks in Colonia Hub.. and so I did.. the plan all along was to really stretch that limit.. I slowly continued towards the Death Zone (sorry for climbing reference.. I just have some good memories)
Commander Persera's story was brilliant and amazing in itself. Her rescue and the "work ethics" of The Fuel Rats.. words cannot describe.. but still I knew.. this limit can go far far beyond.. and the legacy of 3304 is the "Beyond".. so, I decided to stretch it as much as I possibly could with the build I had
Long story short.. I did it. Was it perfect? No.. was it how I expected it to be? No.. but here it is..
Mission accomplished.. 249,5 hours of cruising.. 58.3Ly beyond Ishum's Reach (Semotus Beacon).. 65,705Ly away from Sol
This is not yet maximum what can be achieved.. and if nobody else does, I am going to beat this rekord myself..

Photo Documentation

As mentioned already at the beginning of this thread, there is always an album dedicated to particular expedition. Please have a look, I hope you are going to enjoy it
Expedition III: Operation "Persera" - 23rd Dec 3303 to 11th Jan 3304

The Ship
A big can of fuel.. that's all it was

Credits

Thanks a lot for all the support and I got a lot of it this time as well.. I am not going to mention everybody by name.. but Commander Persera.. as she was still in the area, she was there for my every step.. her voice was the only one thing in the nothingness which kept me sane. She ultimately teamed up with me to provide an independent confirmation of my achievement.. what a spirit

Oh, I almost forgot about it.. another big big kudos to the developers of EDDiscovery.. it truly helped me a lot this time.. Thank You !!

I hope you enjoyed watching my journey

Fly Safe Commanders

Post Scriptum: The first picture cost me the ship.. apparently when I arrived and wanted to take the picture, my ship was littering the entrance.. I had to repeat my journey from Colonia to The Bubble.. and I thought I was a decent pilot..

Holy Moley ... o7
You realise you have now consigned some other lunatic to try to beat that ...

Yeah, ME. lol I'm already traversing but will fall a bit short at 82hrs.. Will go back home after that and go for a second run now that I have a bit of experience getting there and seeing what I'm up against :)

Fly safe and publish your results.. as 65K Club does not record those, I try to keep up with it myself. Not a big list or anything, just somebody should remember what we all did to stretch the impossible :)
