Hi Cmdr Chiggy,

Can you make it ELWs in unscoopable star systems only? I'd like to join for this kind of challenge.

Instead of just making it more restrictive can it be left as ELW search for the main "award" but also have separate awards for say "in non-OBAFGKM" or / also "ringed ELW" etc. I worry that if it is made very restrictive it might dissuade some from participating.

Yah, this was my thinking...hottest, coldest, biggest, smallest, most ringed ELWs, most ELMs, etc. all have a smaller side award.

Speaking as someone who has first discoverer and mapper on one ELW ever (Qiedea IZ-D d13-36 planet 4) - by accident, it's challenge enough to find ELWs in any number in a part of the galaxy I've not been near before.
Side awards for those that want to go for it sound like a fun addition, though.

Incidentally, the reason I would not use a Cobra MK3 for exploring where I do planetary landings has nothing to do with jump range. The Cobra has a big hull for a class 4 shield generator and once a heat sink launcher is fitted you only have space for 1 shield booster. No amount of engineering will make its shield strong enough to save the ship if you slip up on a high G planet landing and hit the ground hard. Other ships have better shield generator and booster vs. hull size (weight) ratios that make it possible with engineering to have light weigh low power shields good enough to make the ship as good as indestructible on landings.
Thats a good Cobra tip.

Thats a good Cobra tip.
I smashed the Phantom into the ground like this once - after 5 x low G moon landings my brain was not conditioned right for the big planet that came next. Fortunately only an hour of exploration data loss. I don't want this to happen with weeks of data....
I just need to ship 200 tons of gold to LEI CHEUNG and I can complete the new shield set up - 5D generator grade 5 enhanced low power (also reduces weight) with low draw plus 3 x 0E Shield Boosters grade 5 heavy duty with supercapacitors. 662 MJ shields (Krait Phantom) and the shield plus 3 x boosters weighs 10T and a 3A Power Plant overcharged grade 1 is enough with the rest of the kit and the usual power management. I'm told it's enough to boost into a high G planet surface and survive.

I've got 3167 so far. I'll be more than happy to share hunting tips!
Cool. I'll be with you for at least some of the 6 months even if it means I get to your location under my own steam if I can't get to the carrier at the right time. I'll probably go on to Sag A* and Colonia after that - never been there before and I can get some more non-essential lightweight engineering done while I'm there.

I've done everything I needed to do in the bubble before leaving it behind for a few months.
Planning to return to the bubble via Sag A* and then spent some time in Colonia.
I could work on getting my combat rank to expert right now which is required for a Colonia engineer, but I can also do that in Colonia.
So I'm ready to leave anytime.
I've got 368T of cargo space in a ship that can deal with pirates if anything needs hauling to the carrier, like more Tritium. Let me know. I've nothing more pressing to spend some of my 650mil credits on right now.
Then I'm trying to work out if I'm going to be on the carrier when it leaves, or fly out to it myself for a repair/restock before I start ELW hunting.
I'll be offline after 5th August and not back until 23rd. If the carrier leaves in that window, I'll either dock on the 5th or leave now for a sight seeing trip. The question is, what system or at least what sector should I head toward to rendezvous with the carrier which would overtake me on the way out?

So when did they introduce the super ranged DSS? I'm loving this thing...
I think you are talking about the engineered one available from Technology Brokers that comes with G5 expanded probe radius.
I stumbled across it completely by accident when I was getting a second engineered class 5 FSD and snapped it up straight away.
It's like playing golf - how many under par can you get with this thing. A target 7 probes planet using only 5 isn't too hard. I might be able to get a 9 probe planet in 5 with practice, but not quite managed it yet.
I've been playing since May and visited Tech Broker for the first time mid/late June. I don't remember seeing it back in June.
I'm still playing Horizons, so it's not specific to Odyssey.

In the game I'm currently about one third of the way to Sag A* from the bubble sight seeing POIs from EDSM.net and conducting opportunistic exploration / system mapping anything interesting I find. Found my second new ELW yesterday and mapping that system this morning. I will probably reach Sag A* in the next 1 to 2 weeks but I can break from this journey to meet up with this ELW hunt expedition or join it after visiting Sag A*.
If the expedition is not going ahead for some reason I'll do my own ELW hunt in the area for as long as it holds my interest then spend some time in Colonia - never been there before.
It would be useful to know roughly where and when (I know we said "September") this expedition will start - even it we only know the sector at this stage. If I can be online at the right time, I would watch the arrival of the Fleet Carrier.
