Exploration Community Goal Currently Active!

Don't know right this second, but should be home before it ends so can update in the last hour or so of the goal as I'll be moving from there to Wolf 359 tonight in prep for a BBR A* tomorrow morning.

I have just recently headed out, and only travelled about 5K Ly, and I was thinking about heading back for 1.3 anyway (and due to some rather silly errors whilst taking external video my repair units are almost drained already!). Unfortunately I have only just seen this post, and there's no way I'll get back and hand in data before this CG ends, which is a shame. If they gave it another 6 hours I might have given it a shot.

Good luck guys, I hope you can hit the target.

Did a little trip to see how far above Sol I could get and have just returned & sold another 120 odd systems. With 2.5 hours to go it's at 173,000 total. Might just make it to tier 4 I guess depending on how much of a last minute rush there is.

Sorry Dr Kaii but the 5th place contributor is now at 2291.

haha no problem, top 5 don't get any special reward anyway afaik. Yes, let's hope there's some mad last minute rush and we get another 75,000 systems...

I think it's fair to say that the exploration CGs to date have not been aimed at experienced explorers. If you happen to have your return coincide with one then you can get a few extra credits, but it's not enough to really be worth bothering changing your schedule.
Completely agree, unfortunately they have been very poorly implemented.

Even given that proviso, the one system = one report mechanism is about the worst way they could have set it up and I struggle to understand why they went that route. If they wanted a simple mechanism then surely basing it on credits earned from selling the data would have been easy enough to implement? Isn't that how they do it with bounty CGs? Or they could do one report for each system and additional ones for actual scans.
Again we are in agreement; one system = one report may be an easy mechanism for them to implement, but it is the worst possible way of representing work done by actual explorers.

So 40 minutes left, any indication of a last minute rush?

EDIT: so just checked, in 53 minutes, we got 16,000 scans in, but we still need another 64,000 in the last 30 minutes, so basically the rate has to go up by 3.5x :(

There's about 10 CMDRs just from the Mobius group currently in Azaleach, I suspect there will a lot more there in solo, open, and other private groups. Could be a bit of a rush on?

Well, I'm 48k Ly away, and even if I could give you my 3000 odd systems of data, it would take longer to sell then there is time left...

Good luck!

:)

At last, a community goal that doesn't just roll over and die due to the super-easy target level!

It's got enough intriguing plot possibility to make people want to do it to see what happens, so there is a strangely appropriate sense of urgency about it.

:) We've no problem with it being a difficult CG. It's just having an activity that's tailored to a given role (Explorers) but timed not to suit them is a bit of a problem. Makes as much sense as a Trading CG at Sag A*..

We can console ourselves maybe with the thought that most probably the tier4 reward would've been just some no-work credits reward instead of a loreful storyline event.

19 minutes remain, 189k reports submitted, and I've been dropped from top5% to top15%

Well it's been a nice try, sucks so much that we won't know what the top tier would have revealed. And that I even bothered. I could have used my data for rank prog and permits, but oh well. 3m credits is.......ok

I sadly only reported 8 systems as i noticed to late that this CG would be so short. I started in the last remaining hour, since yesterday i didn't play much Elite dangerous. I was suprised when I arrived at the station and saw there was only one hour left for the cg and the cg was still missing so many points. I really wish i could had helped more.

Ok so it's over, 193,000 systems scanned. Not even close. And the global reward is a silly galnet article that gives nothing at all. What a let down.

Still, thanks to everyone for contributing, it was fun all along the way until the end :)

Now I have to lug myself back to Avaleach and get my measily 3m

EDIT: I actually was wrong, it's not a galnet article, it's just a "to be continued" implication. Which is ok, it means we still have a chance to figure this out.

That's good!

I expect for most of those that got into the top 5% that 3m is a very helpful boost, so I've no real issue with that. But, yes, I could have gotten just about every permit I'm currently short of if I had spread it around so that does suck a little as 3m is neither here nor there for someone who has been playing as long as I have. OTOH, it's only by actually doing this sort of thing that it can be calibrated and as long as FDev learn from this one then I'm OK with it. I've not seen the final total but if we got to around 80% of the top reward then I wouldn't consider this a failure. The highest tier level *should* be challenging and never a given. It should also be achievable if the community works together. And for exploration ones that does really require allowing enough time for explorers to meaningfully contribute taking into account how far most of us are from home at any one time. So perhaps the real lesson here is not to tie in 'exploration' goals to short term narratives. And as long as that is taken into consideration for the future then I'm contented.

Agree completely. A new galnet article resulting from the CG about a vote for no confidence. Go read. That's all we were able to do with our efforts.

Oh well, lets try harder next time!
