Exploration Question

One thing the newsletter wasn't clear on, was exactly how a pirate might steal your data. Will that be some new interaction, or just something like a special cargo canister you might jettison (or negotiate for)?

Another unknown is how a pirate would even know you were carrying special data, instead of a normal trade run. Cargo scan, I guess? Might be an incentive there not to just fire first, especially if the data is fragile and goes up with the ship.

Actually, that last bit (about the cargo scanner) was answered in the newsletter:

There is even a class of pirate that await intrepid explorers returning from afar, threatening them with destruction if they don’t hand over their data. However, unlike cargo, handing over a bit of low value data is often enough. A pirate can scan for cargo, but fortunately data does not show on a scan so they do not know how much (or how little) you really have.

Hard to say, Zenicetus. It does sound like data will be transferable and the person doing the transfer will be able to select what gets sent and what doesn't. Cargo cans of data seems a little silly to me, so I don't think it will work that way. Perhaps some sort of navigation computer scanner will be added. Purely speculation on my part though.

There is a lot to this that we do not know yet.
I trust FD to make it right.

Back in '84' on my C-64 I was playing for fun.
Now I am 57, widowed, retired and if I want can play many hours a day.
IF the PvPer's / Pirates think they find and or follow me - Good Luck.

Each pilot has access, via their ships Navigation computer, to a starting galaxy map and can of course see all the stars in it. But just as now most of those will have no info about the systems. Everyone will have to either find their own way to a system they haven't been to before, or buy the nav information.

You won't be able to follow someone's explorations by watching the galaxy map - because it won't change for you until you buy the nav data.

Thank you. It would save time if people would actually read up on the planned features before talking about how things will work :D

It seems that at the moment Solo Online is exactly the same technically as All Online, simply just that you are always put in a new instance that no one else joins. So in Solo Online you'll see anything that works across instances, whatever they end up being, but nothing that requires you to be in an instance with others.
