Hello Commanders,
Commander Jamsus here from Italy. I'm playing Elité since... a bit of time, and i'm very happy on my curved 32"\2k - quite ready for Odissey too.
I'm playing on a Ryzen 3600X, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, RTX 2070 & stuff goes great with everything on ultra.
I love this game, and i would love to completely turn off from the rest of the world and stay in space sometimes. And even if my big monitor with the Saitek x52 pro is quite an experience, sometimes i would love to "live" there, to be more immersed. I've read a lot about VR & Elité so...
I had the possibility to try two VR from two friends, an older HTC Vive & a newer Quest 2 (on a 3070).
With the older HTC Vive the experience was a bit strange, because the jump-down in resolution was quite noticeable and the text hard to read.
On the Quest 2, instead, the experience was pretty better even if i didnt get the complete sense of immersion i was "hyped" from friends on Elité Dangerous.
I'm not worried about the "tunnel" effect, i mean, i'm trying to pretend to have a space helmet so it can also help with immersion too, but the main point for me was the Sweet Spot.
I think i have about 7.0 IPD, and my friend with Quest 2 didnt have the Elité Strap, so i had to "press" with my hands the Quest 2 on my face to get a bit more Sweet Spot.
My interest with a VR set is to enjoy the experience. Stay there 1-2 hours "turning off" the real world. I got no interest in other VR games as i get sick as hell, but with Elité this dont happen due to the fact that you are in a cockpit and it is like having a screen in front of you.
So, after this verbose premise, i would like to ask in your opinion what could be an adeguate VR set for this purpose: enjoy Elité Dangerous also as a "space simulator", with a bit more Sweet Spot. Could be the Quest 2 if the elite strap on head can contribute on that, but i dont know if there are other good VR sets around that are more suitable for a about 7.0 IPD. I dont know if there are some other VR sets with a better sweet spot due to a bigger lens or FOV or resolution (like the PIXMAs), but i would like a feedback if they are really a dealbreaker.
For now i have a 2070 RTX, probably will upgrade in the future (3070\3080) and in general let's not place a price limit for now, i'm just curious from your experience as it is something i'm trying to evaluate seriously before buying.
Thanks a lot commanders, have a nice 2021 and fly safe!
