Explorers - How generous are you?

Same here. I scan every O, A and B star I find. I love them. When I have the time I often park up and just watch them.

The rest of the stars, well, I'll scan them if they are in an "interesting" configuration or an usual "mix" of binary stars but if not...I scoop and jump on.

I had to read that again must be tired I read it first as O A P and thought that can't be right scanning a retirement home lol ;)

Well it would appear very...

My current routine on arrival is: -

  • Honk
  • Detail Scan Main Star
  • Open System Map and check for possible WW's or ELW's

If none jump on to next, if however there are some candidates scan them. Then depending upon the total number of objects in the system bag the lot, if too many leave them for others.

I tend to leave some bodies undiscovered in systems that might be somewhat notable, as I think it's a nice gesture to those who would later follow. Plus it's nice to open up the system map a while later and see others' tags on the place as well. However, since I saw that Elite Galaxy Online is going to implement making orreries from systems you upload, I have been scanning entire systems for which I'd like to see the orrery when it'll be ready.

How about this 'moral' dilema:

'a friend of mine' is returning from Distant Worlds and has happened across two stellar remnant nebula, both of which are unexplored. However on checking into EDSM he noticed that another DW CMDR had recently passed through. My friend is whizzing back to the bubble, the other CMDR not so much. Assuming that no other non-EDSM CMDR has also passed through should he :

A) sell both nebula. the other guy should have got back faster
B) save one for the other CMDR
C) leave both. Can't see that happeneing
c) something else

mmmmmm.

A without a second thought. You, sorry your friend, could always send the other CMDR a message and let them know they're in a race situation if they really want their tags on those nebulae...

(and I'm saying that as someone who will almost always be the slower CMDR)

As said by Iain666, A

It's going to happen, not just due to the DW Expedition but when exploring in general. First come, first serve.

Either get back quicker, or don't publish the fact that you've already been through the system via EDD etc. That way others wouldn't decide to race back themselves and you stand a better chance of selling first.

I'd also be the slower Commander.

I usually scan the main star and any ELWs/WWs/AWs, I don't need the rank/credits anymore and enjoy finding things and generally being in awe of my surroundings. Probably the most rewarding side of the game to me, I find tasks around the bubble too much of a grind and simply that, tasks, a means to an end. The exploring is because I want to do it.
