FaceTrackNoIR Guide with PS3 Cam

Just ordered the DelanClip and PS3 Eyecam, really looking forward to trying this out in Beta 3 :D

I bought these last week - really adds another dimension to the game.

As far as setting it all up goes, I wouldn't bother with the 'floppy disk' filter and would start hunting around for a bit of developed film. I dug out some old photographs and they still had the negatives in the envelope. If you have a very dark bit on the end then you're in luck! Otherwise you can use 2 pieces from a developed photo. Oh, and good luck if you try and cut a small enough circle to fit the lens! I ended up cutting around a 5p and then just cellotaping itstraight over the end - works a treat! :D

Facetracknoir is probably fine but it needs some improvements. Head view can't pitch up above 90 degrees, pointtracker and accella 2 plugins are outdated.
Open Track is better and up to date.

Listen to this guy I've been using OpenTrack for at least 4 months now and it's better than FTNOIR in every way.

- exept in one way: facetrack works fine without too much hassle, while I cannot get ED to pick op the facetrackings when using opentrack.
- and everything seems fine in the opentrack app, vjoy drivers installed, etc.

I duno... I have both installed, and OpenTrack jitters harshly, even if it is more responsive. Open track also falls off center within minutes for me. I've screwed with all the setting I could and nothing seems to fix this.

Thus far my experience has been FaceTrack just works a lot better. Its smoother and doesnt "wig out", but OpenTrack is much more responsive.

Even then, I've been able to calibrate FaceTrack to be much more responsive, with the added benefit of stability...

Releasing software's a process. Since opentrack's being actively developed, it's gonna change given it sucks. There's way more in the codebase than filtering.

User-facing filter settings change in the next release. The 4th version of the filter's could be easier to deal with, agreed.

I have bought the package with the Modded PS3, could be bothered with all the fettling :D

Anyone noticed any issues with beta 3 because whenever I pitch up or down my view rolls a but to the right, and I have roll axis disabled.

EDIT: NVM seems to have correct it self.

Just had a go to test my DelanClip.

Could not activate Mouselook in game and I also could not get my left and right panels to open using the keyboard shortcuts, I checked Options and they were mapped correctly but just not working.

Without access to these panels it makes the game unplayable.

Tried replacing my backup bindings, then tried re applying them in game, still no joy, they are bound to keys 1 and 3 respectively but was getting nothing in game.

I was able to see the mouse on my other screen and tried turning of the Tracker software, have tried both TrackNoIR and OpenTrack, but when I clicked on anything the game locks up, it used to minimise but just becomes non responsive to Alt-Tab and stays open, have to resort to Task Manager to close the game.

Tried again with the Delanclip unplugged and everything worked again... odd.

I thought it was just seen a mouse but something is broken. The question is what? Does the IR software need updating for Beta 3 or has Beta 3 broke IR software?

As this is the first time trying out the clip I don't want to go around screaming "BUUUUG!!!" I may have something set up wrong somewhere, but I don't see where, everything looks fine in the Tracker software.

Anyone else with a similar setup getting the same problem?

Beta 3 hasn't broken mine.

With the tracking working the panel can't be accessed via the buttons. The mouse pointer shouldn't be visible.

As long as you run tracknoir (or opentrack) and can see it responding you are good to load and run elite. I believe elite automatically detects that you're using it as I've never needed to activate it via the options menu.

edit: The issue with Alt Tab seems to be related to Beta 3 as it wan't an issue before that.

Thats the frustrating bit, opentrack shows 3 points being tracked, all looks good with 3 the green crosses through the 3 dots, I have calibrated, made sure distances between the IR LEDS are correct etc. But as soon as I go in to ED it does nothing except recognise that their is a Tracing device so disables the keyboard shortcuts for accessing the panels.

I am getting a bit frustrated trying to work out whats wrong :S

Hotkeys not working with panels is a known issue with Trackir and other clip ir users for a long time .
There are at least 2 threads about this :

I have opened a ticket as a few people during Beta 1 but it was closed when Beta 2 incoming.
It seems that it is on purpose from FD and I'm afraid that we have to get used to it.
Nevertheless you can still tweak the axis curves to make it a bit less irritating as possible.

Hi,

I've been reading this thread with interest and I think I'm going to take the plunge with the delan clip - excited!

First of all big thanks to the thread starter. Bought the PS3Eye and that was a 10€ well spent.

Right now I'm seeking out options how to enhance the setup as in low light the facetracking has issues. And even in good lighting it's a bit delayed. I might as well order the delan clip if the LedHead(tm) ends up being the way to go. But before that I want to test something else.

Has anyone got it working with reflective material like in the TrackIR hat clip? Maybe in addition just bring some ir leds next to the camera and enjoy the wireless experience?

I've got the PS3 Camera and TrackNoIR to work well. But not using FreeTrack.
Since they "introduced" support from FreeTrack in 3.9 there was no way to turn it off in the game so you could use the UI panels with the keys.
It would work if you went to the TrackNoIR program clicked on Stop. Not really practical in the game.

But I did get it working really well using mouse headlock. This is one of the protocols you can select (right hand side, where you select the FreeTrack option)
you have to turn the mouse sensitivity down in the ED options screen.

I have not assign one HOTAS button to switch the mouse head look on an off in the game. (nice feature here is it automatically re-centers the view) When it off I also get the mouse widget dot in the middle of the screen.

To be able to use the mouse in the station services menu, you need to suspend TrackNoIR tracking, which you can do with a hotkey / mouse click. I have this assigned to my right mouse click.

Happy with the setup now, but would have been nice if they had not "fixed" (aka broken) the support for TrackNoIR at 3.9

Just got this up and working on an old PS3 eye cam I had lying around. Takes a bit of getting used to but does greatly enhance immersion and makes padlocking opponents much easier. Great guide by OP so +rep for that. A little searching on the net will find you the CL Eye Driver for free, so no cost head tracking, I'm smiling all the way.

Just got the delan clip and ps3 cam had a quick try before i found this thread but no joy.
Will have a good read today and see if i can get it working.
