Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

This maybe caused by the lack of bird species. So, if the Frontier want to continue supporting Planet Zoo, they need to understand that the community would need birds!
I know we have brought up this multiple times, but i'm really just perplexed at the lack of more habitat birds specially cranes, storks and galliformes that would not require totally new rigs. I guess the secretary bird requires a whole new rig but it is at this point one of the most requested animals in general. Waterfowl are other birds that will need a new rig and apparently are also the group among "habitat" birds that is required the most.

I'm done with expecting flying birds tbh, but is weird to me that we don't get more habitat birds with the current high demand.

I’m halfway on board with the temperate and polar idea, but there’s two things that give me pause. Not from a plausibility stance, just from personal desires. 1, I’d want to see them in reverse order, so that polar is a scenery pack and temperate is an animal pack. That seems unlikely, going by both the northern hemisphere seasonal association trend that they’re still mostly following despite the odd outlier, as well as the fact that it’s much easier for me to envision a unique temperate scenery set than it is a polar one that’s distinct from the Arctic Pack - that could be my own lack of imagination, of course. And then 2, these packs would likely continue doing nothing for the eternally struggling South America. I hardly even care what South America gets at this point (I mean, I do - my priorities remain mara, rhea, ocelot, coati, monkeys, monkeys, monkeys), more than anything it just needs volume.

Just for the sake of making lists, here’s my idealized stab at these two:
  • Wolverine
  • Walrus
  • Rockhopper penguin
  • Musk ox
I actually don’t feel very strongly about any of those species besides the rockhopper, but I’d be lying if I said it isn’t a lineup with obvious broad appeal within the community at least.
  • Tasmanian devil
  • North Island brown kiwi
  • Raccoon dog
  • Golden pheasant
  • Wild boar
  • American black bear
  • White-tailed deer
A little bit for Oceania, Europe, Asia, and North America. I think this is a reasonably balanced pack, except I just realized I included two birds, which is obviously never going to happen. I even made a point to not include the tundra swan in my first pack to avoid that exact scenario. Oh well, I’m not changing it. Guess South America gets to rot though :(

Well rheas and maras are found in temperate climates though, but yeah the SA rainforest, one of the most (if not the most) biodiverse regions of the world just gets the middle finger from Frontier i guess.

My two comments regarding climates:
-If, but big IF, we continue down the climate trend I believe Continental is more possible than Polar, while Temperate would be undisputed
-Second thing, temperate at least to this classification, could easily being us Spider and Howler monekys and White Nosed coatis and what not. Here's range for two monkeys, and then take a look at the temperate range map:

This might've be mentioned before and I missed it, but could the next pack be climate based?

Completely unrelated to the PZ I happened upon this climate classification, lemme copy/paste the name from Wikipedia: Köppen–Geiger climate classification

Here's a quote from same page:
-"The Köppen climate classification divides climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. The five main groups are A (tropical), B (arid), C (temperate), D (continental), and E (polar)."

Last two packs were called Tropical and Arid, specifically, not Rainforest and Desert or in spirit of "-lands" trend, Woodlands and Drylands.

I'm perhaps reading way too much into it, it's just when climates were listed in such specific order, it ringed a bell

Wow, that's a very interesting line of speculation! Alright buddies, time to share your wishlists for temperate, continental and polar packs!

The next DLCs should be scenery, animal and scenery if they don't change the pattern again. That wouldn't be very surprising, but I think it suits the Köppen climate hypothesis because we have 1 climate easy to design a roster for (temperate), and 2 a bit more difficult. The main problems I find is that there is no good exhibit nor WE animal for polar DLC (unless we include fish or birds) but anyway the Arctic DLC didn't have exhibit animal, and also that "continental pack" doesn't sounds climate-related at all, people would maybe expect one animal from each continent but it's a climate that isn't found in half of the continents (all the southern ones) so maybe a renaming would be needed.

Polar pack
  1. Walrus
  2. Musk ox
  3. Barnacle goose
  4. Rockhopper penguin
  5. [No exhibit animal ☹️]
  6. Polar research station theming, with lots of flexicolor metal pieces, and some scientific items that guests can use for education.
Temperate animal pack
  1. Wild boar
  2. Pere David's deer
  3. Southern pudu or Chinese muntjac
  4. Spectacled bear
  5. Tasmanian devil
  6. North Island kiwi
  7. Golden pheasant
  8. Hermann's tortoise
Continental pack
  1. Takin
  2. Wolverine
  3. Alpine marmot
  4. Whooper swan
  5. Chinese or Japanese giant salamander
  6. Wooden cabin theming, which kinda overlaps with the wooden wall set already in base game, but it would be a good substitute since that one is not the most detailed pieces set.

Going by the Köppen climate classification system, since that idea make a lot of sense to me, here are my predictions/hopes for the fall DLC which would make sense to be the Temperate biome. I picked animals that were found in these regions and, as is typical, would only need 1-2 new rigs. I also included a new bird and a new world monkey to try to please everyone:

Temperate Pack (if scenery)
  1. Tasmanian Devil (headliner) (Oceania)
  2. Wild Boar (Aisa, Europe, parts of North Africa - Invasive everywhere else)
  3. Greater Rhea (South America)
  4. White-Tailed Deer (North America, Central America, and South America) or Pampas Deer (South America)
  5. [E] Fowler's Toad (North America) Because we need a toad, but I'd be happy with anything so this is just a guess for the sake of guessing with something I'd like.
Temperate Pack (if animal)
The above +
6. Black Howler Monkey (South America)
7. European Rabbit (Europe, Africa)
8. North Island Kiwi (Oceania)

It is basically cold-climate proboscis monkey in a PZ perspective.
It would be a fun addition on top of an already nice monkey roster.
But when we barely have any basic monkeys, it is only going to steal a spot from one of those. And those spots are super rare.
Yeah they are not my priority by any means but if we got them i will not be mad lol

From what I understand the Golden Snub Nosed Monkey's situation is somewhat better than Proboscis?

That they're kept in multiple Chinese zoos + Japan and Korea. Not that I would ask for them now, because of my personal priorities, just that their situation is not as bad

The golden snub nosed monkey isn´t rare beacuse it doesn´t get along in captivity like the proboscis monkey, is rare outside of china because their laws, is like a Giant Panda situation but the giant panda is more popular and that is the reason why zoos don´t have "access" of they, The GSNM (abbreviation) is pretty common in Chinese zoos but outside is another thing sadly

We would have a lot of picks that are common in zoos all over the world though, so honestly, the snub nose monkey would annoy me, unless we get a lot of other species first.

On the other hand for some people Tassie devils are super rare and not obtainable in their regions. I’ve been many times in China and I think that Snub nosed monkeys would be perfect for the game.
They are beautiful, unique and very interesting.
Of course I’d like to see other monkeys too but I have seen 7 times snub nosed monkeys in zoos and tassie only one time in San Diego 🤷🏽
It’s all about the perspective 🙂 and we would probably never get all of the species we would like to… or maybe we could 🙏🏽

My recent love are Francois langurs - such a grace 🤩

Plus Snub nosed monkeys are really good in zoos 🤷🏽
