Fallout 76 Announced - Are you in?

Bethesda games astound me.

They are stupidly popular. They are released unfinished, buggy and unlearnt from previous games. The mod community fixes everything that the company can't be bothered to....

.... then they introduce a "paid Mod" initiative. EFFECTIVELY milking the rewards of their lack of competence, duplicity, stubbornness and stupidity.

I ain't giving this guy any more money, it'll be a dry season in game land before I do so again.

Never played FO76 because I'm not really into multiplayer, but the the thing about bethesda is even with all the bugs the worlds they make are a million times more interesting than the generic repetitive open world games companies like Ubisoft churn out

Youd get absolutely no argument from me there....so why dont they go the little bit extra and polish their games off a bit. Learn from mistakes of old...just one example being the UI which is abysmal across every game they do.

The worlds are great the polish not so much.

Indeed. Unfortunately, they seem to be going the exact opposite way, disregarding polish more and more with each new release.

Saw this video yesterday, where a guy spots the downwards spiral signs since Morrowind across all games up to F76, since introducing microtransactions, to the several paid mods attempts, to the simplication / dumbing down up overall gameplay. Pretty much nails it on the head.

Correct.

I can totally understand the drive to pinch out the pennies in games, cut costs and increase revenue. It's natural that the cash men will want to do these things.

A famous Quality Guru once said "Quality costs nothing" what he meant by that was simple and it applies to everything from cars to games to ready meals.

... make a quality product that people will find value in, pay for, enjoy and sell it for you by recommending it.

Games are pricey objects these days but if someone asked me if I would have paid more for a game like Witcher 3 I'd have told hell yes!

Game companies are sometimes going in the opposite direction I think. They make trite, generic, rehashed franchises full of bugs and poor performance...and they charge a lot of money for it! Not all companies are like this but sadly those companies dont sell as many copies by and large as the CoD etc franchises. In this business Bad Reviews are very damaging and many companies are under massive pressure to Crunch out the their games which is sad.

Anyway I'm rambling but I hope the message

When you rely on modders to polish and crash fix your games to make them playable, and then introduce paid mods... That is unforgivable behavior unless it was a program to actually pay the modders a majority of the income to reward their efforts and acknowledge them as semi developers. Shame. Cashing in on devoted fan work and trying to lock it behind a paywall is one of the biggest crimres against gamers In recent memory.

Lots of respect to once loyal fans shinning a light on this behavior.

Apparently the pre order deluxe collectible helmet toy is being recalled due to - attention - MOLD risk! I say, its the ultimate Fallout 76 experience in your own home, a moldy stinky T-51 power armor helmet that will turn you in to the ghoul...

Hazard:
Mold can be present on the fabric insert inside the helmet, posing a risk of respiratory or other infections in individuals with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or an allergy to mold.

I would be more worried about my own socks and shoes but perhaps that's just me.
