FD: Apparently Elite got noticed, not in a good way

That actually made me wonder. Eve combat and Elite combat are very different, you may have skill in one but trying to become good at the other takes time. Chances are, they will squish a lot more easily than many of the players here who have had plenty of time to master the flight dynamics, specifically FA off. Chances are, many of them can't even best a Dangerous NPC.

or maybe you can see it the other way, they are (mostly) dedicated gamers, used to "hard" games, wich includes flight sims (DCS comes to mind).

with that in mind, do you still think they will have hard time adjusting?

i played a lot of DCS, didn't took me long to get a handle of ED even with FA OFF.....

granted this will not be all of them, but still.

ED isn't hard, sorry to break it to you, but it is actually kinda easy, which i found a bit disapointing at first tbh, even if i do really enjoy it

Soo, lemme get this straight. Some guys from Eve are gonna buy the game, learn docking/flight control/combat/fitting/shiptypes, then go out, grind credits to fit out the appropriate ships, and maybe in say a month or 2, be in a position to do what? We have the Code, we have Test and EIC, we're still here. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if those groups started defending the starter systems.

actually i would LOVE this to happen :)

lol this operation, if it's even real in the first place, is already doomed.
The first fail is that they all have to buy the game.
Second, players can just block them.
Third, anyone can go solo and escape from them so blockades can never work.
Fourth, the game is so large they could never cover the whole thing so at the very worst it will be only the starter areas which I would already recommend everyone leave as soon as they can. Most players will never even see a single member of their group, even if they have hundreds of people attempting it.
Last but not least, they will have to actually put a lot of work into the game in order to get to the point where they are a real threat to any skilled pilot. This isn't Eve where the only things that matter are the stats of your equipment.

actually you get it backwards, the equipment or pilot stats means nothing in eve....at all.

what matters is to be smart and skilled, and it's not rare that a 6 month old toon flying a 30M ship kill a 3-5 yo worth 10 or more times it's value.....

If they're actually doing this for the reasons OP stated then, ermagherd, they're a bit short sighted.

The "griefed" players paid their entry fee. The griefer paid their entry fee. No subs, so no future "loss" for FD, unless you assume some lost revenue for expansions/paint jobs.

If anything FD will revel in this news. Money comes in, eager fight for space from the players of another game...

If the Eve player's motivations are indeed true, it'll be about as effective as trying to starve someone by locking them in a bloody supermarket.

Really! I hate to break it too you but the "Gooney Birds" have been here for quite some time already. This is pretty old news. Lot's of really nice people in the "Gooney Birds". But like I've said before, the leadership of this organization fall in that EvE 5%. Total brown brains. They're nothing special though, just ignore em.

Elite Dangerous... where the rumor mill becomes gospel truth because... drama.

At worst they'll make lave a bit more a sh**show and have spent 50 bucks each on it. If this is actually happening then I do wonder how they came to the conclusion that this game is even really a threat to EVE, the games are so vastly different it's quite obvious.

Also I like the fugitive idea mentioned a few pages ago to deal with mass murder. Slightly off topic but sounds like a fantastic base idea to me.

lol.... let those pencil pushing spreadsheet monkeys do whatever they are going to do. They don't realize, they are just creating content for other players. You can't really grief in Elite the same way you can grief in EvE. Eve has no offline mode, and new players who really do like the game will figure that out.

Of all the things I could be concerned about in Elite:Dangerous, goons killing the game by griefing is pretty darn low on the list.

I must admit, despite the numerous threads, I grossly overestimated the effect of PvPers and griefers. I play in Open. The only times I have are a) bad connection and using my phone and b) During a community goal when I couldn't get a kill because of the wings so switched to solo. Other than that I've fought, traded and explored in open.

I've /never/ been griefed.

It would make me laugh if they fell in love with ED and enjoyed playing. But if they wanted to end ED why buy it. Its like going to rob someone but instead of taking their money they give them money.

I have.

Once.

I got over it.

You know I'm feeling rather smug at this point bro but then I never suspected you to aspired to be a fruit and veg delivery driver ;) :p

Don't worry eve online players won't know how to actually fly a spaceship, there spreadsheet won't help them take down my buffed cobra, bring it on. and yes im ashamed to admit it Ive played eve, it was painful. its pay to win.

I hope they do try it out. I played Eve for several years. I saw a couple of null sec alliances get betrayed from inside. Thankfully the game mechanic are very different. However I think a bunch will like it here.
