FD, I implore you, do not bulldoze over our existing gear and upgrades

a fresh start would be fine (and remove the correct exploit/cheats gains)

that said, I'm planning on doing a save wipe anyway.

A couple points:

For starters, we know that we need new weapons and modules to deal with the Thargoids, so this is happening people. It's not an "if" but a straight up fact of life everybody needs to deal with. New modules and the need to grind for them is coming, like it or not.

Another fact of life is that because of the Godroll exploit known to all the top tier PvP groups operating in the game that dozens or perhaps even a few hundred people had a chance to not only godroll their ships but essentially get their entire ship(s) upgraded to g5 for free, a MASSIVE advantage even without getting "godrolls;" what this means is that while those of us not in the know were grinding out very rare materials and data which limited us to being able to generate a small handful of g5 modules (ever tried to get Todd to apply special effects on an entire suite of guns on an FdL all in one sitting, spending grades after getting a desirable roll on a gun to buy the special effect?) these guys at the top levels of all the major groups (at the very least) were already done with thousands of rolls and were practicing their craft shooting at one another and participating in wing combat.

This advantage not only conferred them with ships and modules that are far and away beyond the means of most "normal" players, it allowed them to practice combat piloting at a 1000 to 1 ratio to the above-mentioned normal players. On top of that, it gave them invaluable insight on how to game the engineering system in terms of what kinds of secondaries were possible.

In other words: Godroll Gate has utterly and completely devalued PvP in Open. Additionally, after the announcement by the ever helpful Nightshady who's group pioneered the cheat and was on top of it for the longest period of time, untold quantities of players from both the ranks of PvP and Pve no doubt had a bash at getting their piece of the pie, further tainting the pool.

PvP and Open has been ruined, and all Fdev has done to date is close the exploit and forever separate the cheats from the legit players.

With the advent of alien tech and new modules, Fdev has a slim chance at recovering the integrity of their game. By making it so the previous top rolls of modules become obsolete with the new tech, we have a chance to start over again basically from scratch.

To PvEers this will not matter as their current modules will be fine for current NPC's, but for anybody that either gives or receives PvP, this constitutes a slim chance at redemption.

And before the PvPers jump on this screaming about the grind; you guys brought this down on us. You guys are responsible. And while you're at it, take a helping of credit for legitimizing clogging.

What these guys did was defecate upstream from where they were washing their dishes, and now we've all got to deal with a combination of ecoli and salmonella.

Alien tech is the only way to "reboot" the system that I can see going forward.

Hahahahahahanahahaha.

DECIMATE IT ALL

Nineteen thousand systems down to two thousand.
Twenty two engineers down to two.
"You cannot transfer your ship from that location"

Bank of Zaonce collapses.

LET IT BURN!

Run to Colonia. Run to California Nebula.
One ship.
The clothes on your back and the wine in your cargo.

And over your cities - grass will grow.

Again. All this would do is punish all players rather than actually do anything about the exploiters...you are all wanting to shoot your self in the foot rather than shoot the actual cheaters...

Worth it.

I am going to try and find that picture of some Asian guy holding a gun to his head while also pointing another gun at someone. It's a screenshot. Deal with it.

I feel it captures the essence of this situation.

As a PvEer myself, nothing will be fine if it comes as you (and I) suspect. I've got no issue with an item reset, but if I have to do the same engineer rolls again on new items, I might rather just uninstall the game. It's terrible enough to do it once, but having to go through the process again...

Just the thought of hunting for USS (RNG), hoping to find the right materials in the USS (RNG), repeat, repeat, repeat (repeat!), then go to the engineer, throw all the mats in there and end up with a meh result, repeat (repeat!).

If god rolls weren't a thing and the exploiters had merely managed to bypass that grind but reached the same mod results as anyone, I'd actually empathize with them. (That they went ahead and made god rolls however is proof that they did not do it because they hated that grind as much as I do, they did it to gain an unfair advantage.)

How would this punish anybody? PvEers aren't in position to make a distinction because whatever they've got equipped is already OP for the NPC's. The only people who're going to care are PvPers who actually have a dog in the fight. Plus, you're neatly sidestepping the fact that Fdev is CLEARLY going to have us investing in alien tech just to have a chance at the Thargoids. Like I said, this is happening. And since it is, it's only the right thing for Fdev to do to restore integrity to the whole concept of Open.

Why are you so dead set against it? You're no PvEer, so where's your sense of outrage?

It's not a punishment man. Your stuff should remain the same. But did you expect your engineering efforts to last the next 8 or 10 years? Progression was always going to happen and NOW is the absolute perfect time to do it. Nothing is going to happen to the cheaters. They're free as birds with their modules unless they admit to exploiting. Which tells me FD has something else in mind.

To Jason, couldn't have said it better myself dude.

You have a choice to accept the coming reality of it or not, but it is totally worth it to clean house. I've made 1400 engineer rolls, all legit, and I know that is hardly any compared to plenty out there but I would gladly give them all up to level the playing field and re-establish some sense of integrity to the concept of pvp. This is self inflicted by cheaters and while it should only be them to suffer if I have to suffer a little bit to punish them via a wave of new field levelling kit so be it, bring it on.

Now this, I could get behind. I'd even be happy for some added Grades, e.g. at Grade 7 you get the equivalent of what is currently a g5 god roll, such as +42% drives on a published maximum of +30%. With a commensurate increase in cost, of course.

That would solve the problem of the guy who made more than a thousand rolls, right there, and would solve the problem of the unpredictable and unbalanced spikes built into the present system.

It would be yet more grind, of course, but a year on and I think we're all starting to feel that predictable, fair, grind is the least of our worries.
.
Mostly predictable (albeit huge) effort for a predictable result. I would fully support that.

Being forced to RNGineer is considered a punishment in my book...do you really not understand what I am saying though? You are all trying to use the exploits as justification to make anyone who wants to pvp re-engineer their weapons to the new adapt or die meta. People have put considerable time into these things already and the prospect of having to spend even more time just to be able to compete is daunting to even the most die hard losers like myself.
Staying at the top in an evolving and competitive game with PVP in it generally requires a continual time investment (be thankful it's not a continued big money investment too because I've played games like that).

I don't think it's reasonable to think you can get your high level stuff and then sit pretty at the top, able to compete, without much continued work.

Sliders, or level6/7 upgrades, or new modules. All fine.

If there is a new equipment grind I personally won't be participating.

If it's mission based and non rng then in that case I may join in.

a think ideally we all would like FD to segregate the cheaters from the legit players and then sort out accordingly. i think the assumption being made is that, due to the lack of complaints ANYWHERE about modules being confiscated that FD are unable to get rid of these items.

1 official statement of "we have identified the cheaters and are going to punish accordingly" means nothing if people do not have faith that the playing field has been made fair. And i do not buy the argument that loads have had their gear taken but are keeping quiet so as not to flag themselves as cheaters..... there would be SOMEONE posting about their gear going missing
