FD just Nuked loads of trade routes!

I've read through half of this thread, cba with the rest as I'm sure it's much the same as the first half.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't FD changed the goalposts with the current actions part way into their 'race to Elite' thing going on. Surely those that have benefited from it considerably up to now (rank wise), now have an unfair advantage over those that haven't. FD shouldn't really have started the 'competition' until they had all the essentials covered (bugs, gameplay etc.). Having been victim to a few bugs, FD really need to start fixing broken stuff much faster, while still adding the content promised long ago.

An in-game trading tool is urgently needed though. If you buy trade data from a system, then you should be able to use that info appropriately by comparison on the commodities boards. One would think that it shouldn't be so difficult in 3300 to have adequate trading info across systems just as we do here in the 21st century across continents.

Lets be honest the people who win were going to have started on day 1 anyway regardless of any changes :p

That's the price people pay for getting in at the ground floor these days. I came in at beta and the amount of videos showing how elite was before the actual release was more than enough info to show someone that the first release would be unfinished and spares on the content front should have been more than enough to dissuade someone from buying the game. I don't know about diablo but I'm pretty sure that it (and most games these days especially the ones with release embargoes) didn't have any the same prerelease content.

I'd actually argue that people getting in at gamma or release have had more chance to benefit from bugs than have suffered from bugs. With rares, luxury trading and static economy trading has been too overpowered since day one. If you're a trader who's benefited from this but in the same same breath complains about fixes and the rest of the game being buggy then there's really no logical argument that will make you see sense.

GL with your refund.

You only had an advantage in gamma/beta is you were aware of them.

DEMAND DOESNT CHANGE ITS FROZEN, you guys have no idea whats going on (except 2-3 posters)

Suply replenishes every 30 minutes by an amount determined by size, wealth, boom etc...

DEMAND DOESNT CHANGE AT ALL. I observed it for a couple of hours.

palladium source station
supply server time
37650 20:08
74141 20:16
37070 21:27
74343 21:47

demand at sell station ( I sold 446 tones each visit to sell station)
683 726 21:18
683 726 21:58
683 726 22:17

Dynamic economy my ass, broken like before a few patches.

They have reset the market discreetly about 6 times. Usually not so abrupt as this. I'm not too bothered. I'm surprised that people like to get a single trade route and grind for hours and days on the end. Doesn't seem like a fun way to play.

The aim of the game isn't just about making money and bigger ships. Go and sniff around a few more systems and make a collection of systems. Use something like Cmdr's Log and EliteOCR to scan and record your systems as you go, use it's built in trade tools to find your way around the data and have fun. Cmdr's log and Trade Computer Extension are both non crowd sourced requiring you to collect your own data. They both support OCR for quickly grabbing the markets. TCE even goes further and overlays the game with it's own matching UI and superimposes the trade tools over the existing game. (You need Excel 2007 - 2013 to run it).

All things is going to do is throw MORE people into groups and solo... why?

Because people are going to scatter to the systems that arent really used at all....fringe systems....Why hang out in the core systems when trading is terrible there?? AND you have to cope with pirates etc??

No.

Even before this people said space in open was dead...now its going to be REALLY dead.

I want the Seeking Luxuries back :(

Trading was always boring as hell, but at least you could earn some real money. Now it's just boring and you have to spend so much time for getting into an Anaconda.
Trading, truckers and such, will tell you that, that's how it is, you exchange your time/boredom for money.

And that really is the balancing point of trading in general, if you are willing to stick with it, then you will earn money, if you are not, then you will not.
And the "this is a game, it is supposed to be fun" doesn't really change anything. Because for some, it is fun, or the reward is worth it, if it isn't for you, then maybe you shouldn't be trading?

The problem with that is it takes a lot of time to ocr everything, and those routes go down IN A HURRY....so it barely makes sense to do so.

The ONLY ..and i stress ONLY meaningful thing in the game right now is getting bigger and better ships. Nothing else makes a bit of difference as the expansion experiments have proved out. You cant own stations, systems, mining rigs or anything but your own ship.

Right now pretty much the entire community is grouped around the Old worlds or Shinrarta Dezhra, with some smaller Islands around Achenar, I Bootis, Sol and Alioth.
That's pretty dead. I'd rather have people spread out.

Trading is only terrible in the core systems while everyone is trading in the core systems and not in other places.

Ditto. Oh it was still boring, but seeing all those CMDRs fly by, the COMMs flashing to life, the occasional "oh SHHHHHHHHHH!!!" moment as you approach the letterbox and a player T9 is coming from the other side (then joking about it on COMMs) and friendly flashes of headlights...

Sure, the above things can still happen, but it's a rarity. During the luxury craze such experiences were frequent and fun.

I've read through half of this thread, cba with the rest as I'm sure it's much the same as the first half.

You know what? The whole race to elite thing is joke, regardless of what state the game is in. I mean, a competition to see who can rush through the content? Not very smart. Also, as soon as money is involved, it invites all sorts of nasty stuff. Why not keep it casual and friendly and have the race to elite offer in-game prizes? A fully loaded grade A Anaconda for combat? An important star system named after the first elite explorer (throw in a credit reward, to keep in line with the combat winner)? A star-port in a high-traffic system named after the most efficient trader (they'll already have all the money, so throwing ships their way is a bit pointless... but they could have unique discounts on ships on that station of theirs)? Throw in a few cosmetics (some kind of medal decals and paint-jobs?) and done. Ought to be a 1000 times easier and cheaper to implement and far more sensible all around... And the money saved this way could be instead used to, you know, work on the game.

So what should I do now to get an Anaconda with 70mio CR right now? Invest 20-30 hours in trading or 200-300 hours in bounty hunting?

You pretty much nailed it, depending on how you want to spend your time, do what you want the most, if you rather want to spend 20-30 hours trading, then 200-300 hours bounty hunting, then trade, if not, do not :)
But people should not grumble about trading being slow/boring and so on/hard to do and such. Trading is not supposed to be one route only, it is about finding routes, finding trades, exploring finding prices and so on.

What? Thanks for telling us all that nobody should complain about heinously boring "trading" that is at this point virtually required to "progress" in the game past a cobra. Perhaps I should use my imagination to pretend that this game is fun?

Well if people instead were urging for combat and explorer rewards being improved, then it would be another thing, but most posts seem to be 'give us back our low risk high earning stuff' which is just sad.

Edit: and yes I will gladly admit that is maybe an unfair generalization, but after a certain amount of posts I just skipped to the end of the forum. So it is not meant to offend anyone, it is simply just sad and sigh inducing to read.

I wish people would quit coming up with these terribly dumb analogies when they're trying to excuse how boring Elite is.

"OH, but REAL mining is really boring, so it should be boring in the game too."
"People that work at STARBUCKS don't ever get to own a ferrari when they grind their entire lives, so why should you?"
"Trucking in real life takes forever and destroys your body whilst being incredibly boring, so Elite should be like that too!"

This is a VIDEOGAME that people are supposed to play to have FUN. I know everyone has been thoroughly brainwashed by companies that grinding for imaginary credits/guns/progression/levels/whatever is a good thing, but just because something is terrible in real life doesn't mean that I should spend my free time doing something terrible in game.

And inb4 someone tells me to do something else.

What else is there to do in game that you can do for free, without hours/days/weeks of grinding?

This entire game is a grind simulator. This might as well be called Elite: Boring Trade Routes That Pay a Pittance.

Get an asp and mix it up. Go where the light hauler and collection missions take you. Pick up one or two 100,000 - 400,000 missions that pop up occasionally 50+ to 100% profit in 5-6 minutes, trade with the spare cargo space. Log where you have been with the OCR tools (1 minute for the whole commodity page if you check everything)

Stop by nav beacons when your bored. In the Asp you can get all the scanners and still bounty hunt, trade with 80t and add exploring to the mix. Do a bit of everything, mix it up and keep it interesting.

You can make decent money fairly quickly. Only thing I haven't bothered with is mining.

People have been urging for ALL income to be improved for months, but FD don't give a crap because they're trying to keep their playerbase around as long as possible so that they have time to make some DLCs to sell so that this game doesn't turn out to be a big flop, which in all honesty it already is.

It's telling that they're already firing "content creators."

Just a point of curiosity: can trading (currently) reach a consistent 10 million credits per hour?

To my knowledge the python or the Type 9 could make 8-12 mil cr/hour using luxury routes and 4-6 mil cr/hour using an (static) imperial slaves <--> palladium route. Is it still possible to pull 8-10 million credits/hour with either a python or a type 9? Figure in the time it takes to find a route, and then figure that each time you run said route you will make less and less until the route is depleted requiring you to spend time scouting yet another route and I become rather skeptical of anyone getting 10 mil credits/hour with any ship.

All games out there, once you get to the high end stuff (which in my mind the bigger ships are) is grinding, if we just were given everything the game would become even more boring, because everyone would have everything.
This is not an excuse for elite, right now I'm only playing it a little, because it is missing the social aspect, but when I do play I enjoy it, exploring, fighting, trading.

Yes, videogames are entertainment, but in general simulators and especially space sims, are something that don't give people the high end stuff that easily. I can assure you there are many people playing that like me are enjoying the heck out of Elite, if you don't then maybe is because elite is too slow a game for you, personally I enjoy it when a game is not rushing, too many games do that now a days, and it ruins the experience.
Maybe Elite isn't a game for you then? and demanding it to change to fit people that complain about certain aspects of the game, might not be a good thing, because there are a lot of people playing and are happy with the game as it is.
A vocal minority does not equal a bad game, maybe if Elite did a mandatory check, giving ALL players a few questons and getting answers and if the majority felt strongly about a certain thing, then we can begin saying a change might help the game.

But forums have never, represented the whole, of a games community, heck I've been told in a lot of games not to bother with official forums because they are a loud battlefield where the rational ideas rarely are heard, is this true for elite's forum as well? no clue, I don't know everyone, but the impression is a bit sad.
