FD please do not downgrade Horizons graphics

I hear people say the game is pushing GPUs a lot more and older ones are struggling. While I hoped my 660 would do the job, please don't downgrade the graphics. If you guys can optimize without losing details or give us more option (low/mid/high/ultra modes) that's fine.

Agreed. Technology should push expectations up, not down.

You really don't want to see the difference between generating planets to land on, take off and fly around in real time, feeling realistic with generating planets to look at.

Comparing ED to other software that uses procedural generation is like comparing a steak to a hamburger because they are both meat, cooked on a grill and can be ordered at restaurants.
I don't really care about details underneath, all I care about how it looks&feels.
But yes, I was speaking about actually flying around, and SE looks significantly better for me (not to mention that it has much wider variety of planet types). But I have a pretty beefy PC, maybe this the problem that SE looks better on beefy hardware while ED is not as hardware-intensive but capped in quality (because of consoles, I wonder?)
Also it will be interested to see when Infinity Battlescape becomes available to try - from current closed testers it looks even better.

When they do it for Xbox then the PC should still have the option to run at higher.

This will particularly be true in the years of expansions to come...

Mines not struggling with my GTX 960, im only running at 1920x1080p though (hence choosing that card) I did have to knock a couple of settings from ultra to high but its not noticeable and pushed the frame rate back up. My PC is pretty old now, running an old Phenom 2 with 16gb DDR 3 RAM although Mb and CPU are next on the list of upgrades and the RAM isnat that fast.

Not much point putting up video as the cap software slows my frame rate but its sticking around 50-60fps normally and looks like this.

As a future owner of the 960, thank you. ;)

Then you are out of luck bud, the details underneath will determine whats on the outside and they matter if you care about them or not.

And you also mentioned I: too, which is nothing but another meat dish in the steak-burger comparison. Ribs maybe?

So, even if you start to roll on the floor kicking your feet, screaming you want that star, you want it now and you don't care how, you'll get the best FD has to offer without cutting down on their unalterable keystone feature:

1:1 scale galaxy, rendered one system at a time, with 1:1 scale planets.

If they can get this to work perfectly and look better, they'll do it.

It has nothing to do with consoles, it has nothing to do with incompetence. It has everything to do with optimization and reaching the largest possible player base.

Also the flight model in SE is not actually a flight model. It moves the camera around based on your input, which is not flight. You say you care about 'how it feels'. SE has no feeling to it, it just looks cool.

Yup, agreed - and if anything, start pushing the upper-levels of fidelity (please) - even if my graphics card might not be able to cope with any increase (current: 4Gb GTX 770 - which copes with Horizons just fine on Ultra) - the next card I'll buy will do so.

:D

I have no idea why you seem to be under impression (or trying to make it look like) I am throwing a angry temper tantrum here.

I am just saying that for me Horizons expansion just does not look good enough, does not offer enough and its not worth the money at the present state. I will buy it when (if) it gets better.

I've backed original Kickstarter and still think it was worth it just to make game like ED happen, but I still remember back then a lot of people saying while beta "wait, it looks like game turning out to be incredibly shallow and a lot of promised features axed", other people countering "its beta, it will be all fixed by release", and guess what, it didn't change that much since beta to release, it took a year+ after release to get about halfway there. That's why I can't help but being sceptical. But I am not pulling my hair out over it, just having some discussion here (hey, thats a discussion board).

You realize it is the first game we can land on full sized planets in real time, right?

Of course they could make some tiny potato with highly detailed graphics, and a nice cut-scene sequence for landing on it. Duh.

WAIT! I know the name of that game! its called ... (sound of angry mob attacking)...

FD have to increase the graphics because Star Citizen looks more realistic and better.

Bridge calling Kira.

Ok, you are not throwing a tantrum, but you are clearly not discussing in a very level headed way.

All I'm saying is, even if you are not satisfied by what FD has done, it is the best anyone has done up to date. You can't claim it can be done better with any real confidence because of the simple fact that no one had done it before.

You are being skeptical alright but in one of the most uninformed ways possible. It looks like you are expecting miracles.
