Hmmm, although I agree somewhat with what you said the confidential part I do not agree with, he is not under an NDA so can publish any correspondence freely.

As for the "Feelings were hurt part" This I agree may be true (Thats his mind so who knows) but I merely am basing my basis related to why tell him things exist but then dont exist and the overall lack of proof reading a reply etc etc
I think the Daily Mail would disagree with you there, they published a letter sent by MM to her father, who openly passed it to the DM to print the contents, and they got done in court, with no NDA in place. Not saying this is the same, but Yamiks should have done his normal schtick, garbaged the game anyway, and not published that letter, but he took the opportunity to generate money off clicks, an opportunist, driven by money, not his love of Elite, who earns money off the labours of others, while producing childish, purile videos, that "some" people find amusing

I was offered a key for Odyssey today (bit declined it). The other thread was locked a few days ago. :)
Awesome of you to decline the key. The video game will thrive and evolve only through objective constructive criticism.

Objectivity is precious and precariously preserved.
Any gift from a profit incentivized company either has a hidden agenda or is tax deductible.

As much as i don't like toilet humor i don't mind yamicks content. If you just ignore it, the message is fair, if you're assuming or projecting that elite should be the best game that it can be. Hard to imagine hey.

The only funny thing i find, seen it twice now, is how yamicks dramatically changes his tone as soon as frontier do something nice to him. Last time, he was tearing the game to shreds, frontier sends him a $500 bribe box. At least one video afterwards he sounds like gentle as obsidian ant.

2 videos ago, he was tearing frontier to shreds. Then get gets early access to the station walkthrough. Then the video he makes sounds hes... honestly... doing them favours. (edit: By his standards.)

Pretty funny. But i guess he's trying to make a living off youtube, so you have to factor that in. Beats no content i guess.

Yamiks didn't get one of those boxes. He also didn't get access to the station footage.

yawn No. I don't care if Yamiks gets free stuff.

In General: Yamik is an !($#hole, but say what you will, he does care about the game (though he might say otherwise) and generally has a somewhat educated opinion regarding what he says. That being said, they are his opinions; there are many more opinions -- its Frontier's game, and its up to them to listen or not. If they don't want to give you free stuff, then sorry, you don't get free stuff; no matter if you're a content creator or not.

Also, people are people. People respond better to constructive criticism. It's all about the way you present your ideas. If you're an a**hole about it, people will be less inclined to listen to you, whether you know what you're talking about or not.

Finally, going public about it is bad form. It would've been better to actually deal with them (Frontier) directly and quietly, rather than create a sh*tstorm about it online for everyone to see. "Going loud" about this, especially prior to a major release, is generally unprofessional behavior and not likely to get you any praise.

That wasn't Yamiks. Must have been someone else. A few people posted photos of it.

Well, i think he still let frontier off easy in the station walkthrough video :) But that would be just an opinion.

Wait he didn't get access to the station footage? No way.. he had considered video with (im stuck for words, the visuals also with real editing done) video only a few hours after the stream. The guys a machine then.

EDIT: Well if frontier have actually shut him out.. one of those things where its their decision ultimately. The only "feeling" id have is i get the reason yamicks negative thing exists on elite is 100% frustration at frontier not increasing to some reasonable level their support of the game. From personal experience this is real, though there are varying degrees on how you can express the idea sure. Its not like anything has to be perfect either, signs in the right direction would be plenty enough...

Two of my favorite youtubers are ACG and Jim Sterling. Sterling is incredibly foul-mouthed and bombastic, but beneath it all is interesting, well thought out insight.
Same with ACG.... and ACG always buys his own games.

Both Sterling's and ACG's criticisms are not only usually spot on, but also, more importantly, through listening and learning how they view games, my eye has become a tiny bit more sophisticated.

If I learned something, that means thousands of others have, too. Collectively this means discernment in video game quality and gameplay gets more sophisticated overall. In turn, video game companies will get called out for sloppiness and lack of creativity.

Heightened discernment will force companies to higher standards.
This is a good thing!

I hope.

Yeah, I should support more of my favorite content creators. We viewers need to help them preserve objectivity.
:)

I already have two copies of Odyssey. 🙂. Their offer was very kind, but I didn't need it.

As a content creator do you feel a moral obligation to be positive (or at least polite) if you accept free stuff? I guess you would?

EDIT: I guess as an interesting point of contrast, the lave radio guys are so honest they would give the forum white knights a heart attack every 5 mins, yet they're still uber fans. They run a convention every year in honour of the game.

I feel I should be polite when I turn it down. :)

As to accepting stuff, do you mean polite as in saying "Thank you"?

No, once you have accepted a gift from any company (that isn't a formal paid marketing arrangement, that sounds different).. does the freebie make you be nice? I guess after i wrote the question it seemed a bit silly, of course when someone does something nice you want to be generous to them in return. Yeah as a player its very easy to express your honest opinion because that's your role in the picture. Not sure what its like for a content creator. Anyway :)

Im surprised frontier hasn't done for this as well. Epic and Sony (with this years ps plus) have proven its very possible to bribe goodwill out of players. They should have thrown in another exclusive ship, another complete set of paints, 2 suits, an ebook etc with the preorder. Complaints less im sure.

Well who doesn't like free gifts? Especially nice ones. :)

I'm sure every content creator will feel differently. But for me I don't feel I owe a company anything if they send me something. If they want to send a gift, that's incredibly nice, but has no bearing on their game or what I think of them as a company.

Then again, it might depend on what it is. A free game, GPU or console is one thing (nice, but not gonna affect my opinion on anything). A free top spec Tesla, or a house might be a different story. 🤣
