FDev licences new IP for 2021 game, starts dev later in 2019

Dune is in my top three books of all time (impossible to separate them) so of course I think Lynch's version was an absolute travesty. Shouty guns, I ask you.

Loved Dune II on the Amiga of course, so I'd love Frontier to put a modern spin on that. After they've remade V2000 obvs

Funcom grabbed the Dune licence last week

Their first MMO, Anarchy Online, borrowed heavily from Dune. Set 10000 years in the future, Rubi-Ka the source of a valuable commodity (Notum). Nanomage breed that can only live on Rubi-Ka etc. I believe Ragnar Tørnquist (Longest Journey, Dreamfall, TSW) wrote much of it including a novel. I doubt Tørnquist will be involved in future projects though since he is no longer involved with Funcom afaik.

Come to think if it, alot of sci-fi and fantasy borrowed from Dune it seems, from Star Wars to Skyrim.

At least now we know why there will be no development on Elite until end of 2020. They're all busy on the new stuff, so don't expect much by way of bug fixing over the next 12 months

So does that mean the ED devs will be just sitting there doing nothing while this other IP gets made. Maybe they have to share computers and thats why only one dev team can work at a time.

Let the speculation commence!

A good guess might be like with Jurassic World. Look for franchises that have a film release coming up around that time and where the market isn't already saturated with games for that franchise (eg: Don't expect a Marvel game). Also something that might work well as a park management game, which seems to be FD's forte.

Hmm... a new Indiana Jones movie is planned for 2021. Or... hey... i think i've got it. Avatar 3 is planned. That could synergise very well with ED's planetary generation tech and space stuff.

Ok, i'm calling it, its going to be based on Avatar. First or third person. You play as a human in an Avatar interacting with the natives. I'm guessing single player story, but multiplayer might be a possibility. Maybe even the ability to fly or drive various craft or those ride various creatures.

From James Cameron

So different biomes.

My guess is Indiana Jones game. Some sort of action adventure.

A Space Jam 2 game. Lol god knows. Cartoon adventure! in sppppaaaceeee

A Jurassic World game, but not the park builder. Action adventure...?
Makes sense. They have the license, and the assets (which just need beefing up for close ups).

But hang on. Avatar 3??!!
What happened to Avatar 2?. Lol

Lynch's Dune... To be fair he asked himself to be credited as Alan Smithee for the TV release.

But yeah, it's a drug fueled abomination with Sting, Stewart and a chapman stick.
