This isn't "support". People support FDev by buying their stuff. What people are doing here is pointing out a few facts.

You're claiming Frontier has bought a new building is a fact??

It's not. Is just more fabrication by FD fans.

Anyone who bothers to check the public records will see the building's owner is Trinity College Cambridge and Frontier is only a tenant.

You got us FD fans! And here we were, pretending to just enjoy a great space game and being happy with the healthy financial results of FD. But secretly we are all in it for the Building Conspiracy. If it wasn't for your investigations, we would have gotten away with it!

As you seem to prefer not to back up your stance with any evidence.

Please feel free to read and comment on the following.

Video game producer Frontier Developments looks set for a major acceleration of growth after whetting the appetite of both gamers and investors by revealing its plans for a new building and its next title.
Catching up with COO David Walsh for a few words following the release of a very impressive set of interim results he was able to provide a little more detail on Frontier’s forthcoming move to new premises, along with a mention on its eagerly awaited forthcoming game.
“We are remaining on the Science Park at plots 26-27, which is just a stones throw away from our existing operation,” said Walsh.

The site, opposite Cambridge Consultants, is already taking shape and Walsh says it will be a prestigious building. Funding for the new premises according to Walsh will come from within Frontiers own resources as opposed for any need to raise new money, which will no doubt go down well with shareholders.
The company, which has been recruiting across the board for sometime now having swelled its headcount to above the three hundred mark had previously taken on a second facility to assist with its growth plans.

But Walsh says: “Everything will now be housed under one roof with the new HQ consisting of three floors which gives us some 65,000 sq ft in total. This will serve us for the continued growth in more franchises that are coming over the next few years”.

I've enlarged and underlined the pertinent part for you.

Irrespective of who is actually building the premises which to me seems a moot point, Frontier are doing well and looking to build on the future which includes the new premises.

That make me happy for the future of Frontier, Elite Dangerous and the other games in their stable.

You seem to misunderstand: if they dont build it they are doomed. Lets wait and see, anyone in the area able to confirm or deny if DB is laying bricks?

Yes, that is also a key aspect. Who cares for thargoids when you have the David layin' them bricks!

Granted but the ultimate question you keep avoiding is. Why on Earth does it matter?

You think the difference between buying a £12m building and not is pedantry??

Actually, yes. You were attempting to argue against the statement that FD evidently are feeling like things are going well and seem to have a vision for the future.

Whether they've a) built it themselves b) funded the build by agreeing a long lease or c) taken advantage of the people that run the science park feeling optimistic, doesn't actually have any bearing on the actual statement that you don't like; that FD are behaving like a company on the up.

Hear hear!
Please, if we do have someone with great insight into corporate finances; I truly would like to understand what is the big deal between renting or owning a commercial property.

-Owning a commercial property: sign of great succes.
-Renting a commercial property: sign of impending doom.

Dont they teach anything at school anymore, jeez? :p

A fan of doom!

You missed the part which says Frontier has bought a new building.

Which sort of figures, given that part doesn't exist.

Good question. Ask it of those who've fabricated this fake news.

I truly would like to understand what is the big deal between renting or owning a commercial property.

Approx twelve million pounds.

I missed the part where Frontier were property developers.

Q; are Frontier doing well in your view? Or are they doomed in your view?

Because right now it looks like you've been somewhat caught in a furrow of your own making and are trying to concentrate on this "building" thing in an attempt to not make yourself appear so foolish to a bunch of strangers on the internet. If that is so - good job it's working superbly.

Seriously, I don't even know what this thread is all about anymore... So they rent, not own. Boo hoo, what does it matter? Is it somehow a sign of FDEV going bust? (Not again, no, please not agaaaaain!). Is it a sign that they are going to stop working on Elite, Planet Coaster and other games they have in the pipeline? Is it the definitive end of our beloved space sim? (Been there, done that, 1/10, would not end ED again). Or maybe is it a sign that someone wants to argue just for the sake of it? (Not on these forums, surely! Impossibru!).

Really, why is it SO important?

No. The burden of proof is upon you to tell us why it matters.
I see this as them saving £12m on property to instead spend on making product to sell.
We all need you to explain why it is a big problem to NOT own the building.

Clearly the issue is that FDev therefore have £12m+ of cash spare and they'll be tempted to increase the size of the development teams through hiring. This is a bad thing: too many cooks spoil the broth, 9 women can't make a baby in 1 month, etc.

The only way for FDev to save themselves from Doomed™ is instead lay off a hundred or so staff and shrink the development teams. All the best development houses get smaller over time, they start at 500 staff and gradually reduce before hitting maximum production at 30 employees. Hold Hunger Games or Musical Chairs events to make downsizing a fun activity.

The money gained from the record annual sales revenue and Tencent investment would be better placed in a big money tower for remaining staff to swim in - it's a widely-known morale booster. And literally burning money is a more efficient source of heat than a central radiator system.

With fewer staff and £millions sitting unused, Elite development pace will increase ten-fold! The game is saved!
