Fer de lance and expected python nerf

Right on. The amusing part is when they talk about "grinding" and "working hard" for video game pixels. Even better when they bust out false equivalence and scream "Just make all the ships the same!"

I've yet to "grind" or "work hard" for a moment in Elite. It's a video game. I work at my job, I play video games for fun. If you aren't having fun playing a video game, you should do something else.

Dude if you just want to fly a cheap starter ship and fight PNC offline.. go for it. But your comments about balance effect people who PVP online that want more than a Sidewinder, The Python was the basis for the drive for PVP'ers and now that's gone... Now we have millions and millions and have nothing to spend it on. I used to grind at work now I own the companie(s).. I'm the same way when I play games..if I want something I'll do what it takes to earn it.. maybe that's what you don't understand...

if it's just about PvP and the Python is useless... switch to the ship you are now afraid of.
most likely it will be much cheaper ;)

Hey, it's all totally our choice how we want to play the game amirite? If I want to be the pimp best Sidewinder pilot in the game, I can be!

The great part of Elite is, I can be a great sidewinder pilot, take on expensive ships, and smash them so long as I have the right combination of skill, modules, and luck.

That's the best part of Elite, there is no WTFpwnmobile, it doesn't matter how much you pay for a ship, mindless grinding doesn't make up for pilot skill. If you're flying in a Python and you get shanked by a Sidewinder/cobra/viper, you most likely suck at flying a Python, and need more practice. If you don't want to be force-fed a barrage of missiles via Viper, don't put yourself in a position to BE force-fed a barrage of missiles via Viper.

As I said go for it... But don't belittle people who are willing to pay a higher price than you are just because you aren't willing to do so.. People grind to get what they want out of the game... or don't grind because they want nothing.. we all have that right.. But what right do I have to say they should cut trade in half when you do it offline.... I don't play offline so why should I care...

Im actually not enjoying it because im playing other games until more content arrives geared towards my interest. :\

ooops... then i misunderstood you :(

I agree you should have a choice to play how you like, just like those who want to put in time towards higher end ships should be able to and still get a ship of appropriate quality. Nobody is saying a Python should be instant-win against less expensive ships. What I AM saying though is in a situation with two equally-skilled pilots, the one with the ship that costs many hundreds of times more than the other should rightfully win that encounter. If not, there's no point whatsoever in making use of any ship beyond an Asp, nor working on trade routes, etc.

In single combat the nerfed python would still beat every single ship except Anaconda, everything else equal.

It's the "a Python costs 10x more than a Cobra so it should take 10 Cobras to kill a Python" crowd that's screaming bloody murder here. They would have you believe the nerf makes the Python completely useless in combat, pvp or otherwise, which is far from the truth.

People with small ships want to be toe to toe with big ships....thats the nerf they want.

I agree totally. Given two equally competent pilots, both fit out correctly, and in a "fair" fight, then yeah, the Python should take the win, barring some amazingly unfortunate luck.

I just get the vibe from some, that, just because they did X and got a lot of pretend dollars, they deserve a ship that totally compensates for any lack of skill. In the hypothetical, if I devote my Viper to killing big ships, with big ship killer weapons (dumbfires right now), and I'm able to get in point blank range on a python who makes no effort to evade...then yeah, I should be able to mulch them. If I can park myself in the blind spot, hold it, and chew the Python down, then I should get the kill.

First thing I would do, if I see a viper barreling towards me, hardpoints out, with missile launchers....I'd start spooling up my FSD while trying to hold distance. Last thing I'd do is try to engage while going "LOL I'm a big ship I winnar!". Sometimes, the "win" in the fight is getting away without dying.

Exactly. It's also not about a poor combat pilot in a Python winning. Many posts have shown that a good pilot would take the win over a poor one even with the current Python. Skill is still very much required. Skill and good equipment is the goal we seek.

It is about poor maneuverability, slower speed and less shield strength for an extremely high cost of purchase, upgrades and operation. The reward is no longer worth the cost.

And I'm not all that big on combat! I just love how smooth the Python flies and know that if I'm attacked I have the skills and ship to reasonably protect my investment.

Sadly, the pvp crowd has already whined enough about it, so the devs already stated here on the forums that it will be nerfed. mobility will be greatly reduced, making it a sitting duck waiting to be shot.

Agreed!

Along with the reducing/minimising of Shield Cells.

At this rate we'll end up with griefers small ships killing anything big and expensive (which will all be too ponderous to fight) due to the whiners, which will make exploring and trading not worth doing

what the heck you talking about. small ships got the biggest nerf of them all via the dumbfire missile nerf...

if ever, all big ships will be much safer now.

This thread does make you think about "Stuff" :

Why is it that the most "powerfull" combat ships are available after a few hours play? You dont need any Skilz to buy the most lethal weapons ingame ?
n the other hand because you put inan effort, you are now graciously allowed to buy large mediocre ships that are very vulnerable to Weekend Warriors, Griefers, Lulzkillerz ect.
It is indeed very kind of you FD ' sarcastic smile'

I propose that Vipers and Cobras are only achievable when you reach combat rank "competent" , then its only eagles and sideys left for casual game disturbers.

Cheers Cmdr's

Because grind is a skill, as is clearly illustrated by the fact that being a conveyer belt worker is the job we all aspire to out there in the real world. And society knows no higher merit then the repetition of an unchanging task in the pursuit of ever greater material gain.

Does this answer your question?

I do think a lot of these problems would be solved if making a profit actually would be hard, like in the real world...

Not ''It takes X hours to grind up for a Python'' but ''In this hostile galaxy, it's pretty hard to earn the capital for a Python, especially on your own.''

Im against nerfing but if a ship as large as a Python has the same maneuverability as cobra then that needs to be nerfed. No way a ship that large should be able to turn and bank like a cobra.
